    Mascara formula is typically made with chemicals that are harmful to the environment. Mascara as a whole is deemed non-recyclable because the small plastic tubing is difficult to clean out while the applicators are made with mixed-materials that are not easily taken apart. Lazo is a refillable mascara tube with a cake mascara formula made with only organic ingredients. Its design makes it easy to use, clean out, and refill. Users are given the option to either purchase premade refills, packaged in biodegradable paper, or purchase a tool-kit that provides everything needed to create their own refills at home.     Vehicles are an important part of most people’s lives in America. We use them to travel, explore, and transport items all the time. But sometimes objects are difficult to unpack. Everyday items like packs of cases of water, boxes, or even a new TV. People can overexert themselves and strain their muscles if not using proper techniques when lifting or grabbing items. The Glide Mat is a product designed to keep that in mind. This design was created in partnership with Honda to design a new product for their vehicles, with the idea of assisting users with grocery shopping. This design is currently conceptualized in their 2023 Passport and Acura TLX Models. The Glide Mat is one part of the Honda Grocery Assist, which includes 3 other designs also meant to assist users in other parts of the shopping experience. This design focuses on the loading and unloading process. The design is a trunk liner that has over 300 rollers in place to help glide heavier items around the trunk to assist in unloading. From my initial research and user testing participants noted that heavy items were difficult to load and unload from their vehicles, often noting back or arm strain because of pushing and pulling. The purpose of this product is to reduce the amount of back and arm strain one might have pulling items from the car. Allowing them to safely bring it to a place where they can ground themselves to unload without exhaustion by just trying to unload. The Glide Mat's roller mechanism is activated with a switch on the left front side. Once activated, it will alleviate some of the strain of pushing and pulling items by allowing one to easily move items across the trunk's floor, and place them in a position close to their body in order to ground themselves for easier lifting. To stop items from moving while in transit simply flip the switch off to stop the rollers from moving. This design is multifunctional, being able to be used for not only groceries, but also other heavy items such as when traveling, moving materials for home improvement, tailgating, or even camping.HondaNo embargoAcademic Major: Industrial Desig

    Amidst the COVID-19 pandemic, public transit bus drivers put their lives on the line to provide the essential service of transportation. Bus drivers risk contracting COVID-19, at the same time, cases of violence towards drivers have increased. Even before the pandemic, bus drivers have been experiencing both verbal and physical assaults from irate and intoxicated passengers. These assaults are often due to fare disputes; however, bus delays and racial tensions are also contributing factors for passenger rage. Despite these issues, many bus drivers still value interacting with passengers. Row, a concept electric bus designed with the driver in mind, aims to address these issues that bus drivers face. Row features a separate driver cabin made achievable by switching the location of the front wheels and front door of a bus. This separate cabin protects drivers from interactions with potential COVID-19 positive passengers and irate passengers. Drivers will no longer facilitate fare payment, thus preventing fare disputes. Fare payment is made convenient and accessible to passengers at kiosks at bus stops and convenience stores. Passenger can also pay their fare and speak to the driver through the Row website. Drivers can open the cabin door or the cabin window to allow for socially distanced conversations. The layout of the bus increases passenger seating and permits them to sit closer to the driver cabin to allow for interaction.     Business Category, 3rd Place, Denman Research ForumThe Honda Grocer Companion digital vehicle app was developed as a partnership project with HONDA, investigating how to increase competitiveness with their next-gen vehicles by observing future grocery shopping trends and redesigning the cars' assistive aspects to improve this experience during grocery store pick-up. COVID-19 has had a significant impact on the incomes of consumers, which have decreased dramatically. Despite this, global shopping volumes have surprisingly increased, thanks to the safety, ease of use, and other advantages of online shopping. As a result of the pandemic, individuals and companies have had to rethink their daily activities and reimagine their lives. COVID-19 has driven the creation of new solutions to address the rapidly changing world we live in, with even the most mundane tasks, such as grocery shopping, being affected. One successful adaptation by retail stores has been the pivot to the "dark store." A dark store is a location that has been closed and repurposed into a center for fulfillment operations. This trend raises questions about the future of grocery stores and transportation and how we can design these elements to function together seamlessly in our daily lives. This thesis consists of months dedicated to research-based product development. During this execution phase, I conducted many research assessments, ideation, and targeted interviews and surveys. The outcome of the process is an innovative digital feature installed in the vehicle hub center to highlight the significance of future vehicle development while shopping for groceries online. The app fosters interaction between the user and the fulfillment workers, enhancing communication during the online shopping process.     In the realm of military medevac, where urgency is the heartbeat, Cargolock emerges as an innovative solution, streamlining stretcher-fastening procedures during critical operations. Conceived in response to the inefficiencies of traditional methods, Cargolock is a testament to the dedication of medical personnel on the battlefield, recognizing the imperative of swift and effective care delivery. The journey from beginning to what you see today was an exciting process. What started as learning about litters and trying to redesign them, translated into ideas centered around the idea of military transportation. Not the vehicles, but the human-to-human transportation that occurs. As I learned more and more I found it wasn’t the vehicles and devices that were interesting, but the relationships that humans have with these means of transportation. It all accumulated into the safety, security, and speed of the current securing process for attaching litters to aircraft cargo floors.     Hydration is one of the most important factors of everyday and lifelong health. It affects one's body and brain from motor function and bowel movements to mental health and energy levels. When the body is already under the stress of a viral or chronic illness, hydration needs to be at the forefront of treatment to sustain the body. This research work focused on at-home healthcare solutions surrounding the issue of dehydration for sick infants and toddlers. I came to this targeted group during the initial research phase as I worked to identify a vulnerable group at risk for dehydration. I spent 7 weeks conducting primary and secondary research on the topic of at-home care of sick children by interviewing parents, conducting surveys, and reading articles and books on all surrounding and related topics. Through my research I identified a lot of consistencies. One particular observation I made was the amount of stress and anxiety surrounding caring for sick children. Parents have to deal with numerous uncertainties about how to best care for their children. From this point, my goal was to both reduce risk of dehydration but also caretaker's anxieties. The following 7 weeks were dedicated to research based product development. During this execution phase I cycled through many rounds of assessment, ideation, and targeted research. The outcome of the process is a wearable patch allowing for the monitoring of hydration levels and temperature of the sick child. Paired with a digital app and data analysis system, parents can track their child's hydration and health and are provided with actionable tasks to aid their recovery.     Champion Intergenerational Center is a combined Early Learning Center and Adult Day Care Center in Columbus, Ohio. Only one hour of each preschooler's week is dedicated towards meaningful interaction with the older adults. Stress and turnover among staff make it difficult to plan and facilitate new activities. Join is a tool designed with Champion to bolster their mission of intergenerational care; Join blocks encourage calm and autonomous play after intergenerational lunches. The blocks are easy to slide together for those with limited dexterity, and its illustrations include a variety of ages, races, and abilities. Three themes—nature, neighborhood, and friends and family—mix over time, creating new communities for kids and older adults to explore together.
