Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed
Variations on the Author
“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship
Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis
We provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature. Finally, we show by means of an example that our findings have a high practical relevance.information science;Pearson correlation;cosine;similarity measure;author cocitation analysis
Dispelling the Myths Behind First-author Citation Counts
We conducted a full-scale evaluative citation analysis study of scholars in the XML research field to explore just how different from each other author rankings resulting from different citation counting methods actually are, and to demonstrate the capability of emerging data and tools on the Web in supporting more realistic citation counting methods. Our results contest some common arguments for the continued
use of first-author citation counts in the evaluation of scholars, such as high correlations between author rankings by first-author citation counts and other citation
counting methods, and high costs of using more realistic citation counting methods that are not well-supported by the ISI databases. It is argued that increasingly available digital full text research papers make it possible for citation analysis studies to go beyond what the ISI databases have directly supported and to employ more
sophisticated methods
Incorporating Sustainability and Accountability as a Nexus for Development in the Nigerian Economy
This article explores the approaches for incorporating sustainability and accountability as a nexus for
development in the Nigeria economy. Governments today are challenged more than ever in three
operational areas: pursuing sustainable development, being accountable to the public for the expenditure of
taxpayer dollars, and anticipating and adapting to critical and cumulative risk. Efforts within government
to improve performance in these three core abilities of governance have been advancing largely
independently over the past two decades, despite an apparent commonality in the basic principles and tools
that drive them. Often concurrently, finance and treasury departments create and implement cross
government accountability frameworks, environment departments promote sustainability internally and
externally and audit departments build capacity for risk analysis and management. Therefore, it aims at
structuring the literature on sustainability and accountability, to highlight its main contributions and gaps.
It is followed by the delimitation of each sustainability approaches. Finally, a conceptual framework is
proposed to address the integration of sustainability and accountability in the development of Nigerian
economy. Sustainability is one of the most important challenges of our time. Projects play a pivotal role in
the realization of more sustainable business practices. This article recommends, among others, the need for
government to adopt a more practical approach to the promotion of accountability, a determined fight
against corruption and unethical behaviour, proper management of resources, and commitment of more
funds to the execution of capital projects that could positively affect the lives of the people for improved
standard of living. The study identified a positive relationship between sustainable growths at the firm
level. Also, the study identified numerous challenges facing sustainability management and accountability

THE EFFECTS OF WORK STRESS ON EMPLOYEES PERFORMANCE IN THE COMMERCIAL BANKING SECTOR IN NIGERIA
This study examined the effect of job stress on employee’s performance in the Commercial
Banking Sector Nigeria. It was carried out to investigate the effect of work stress on employee
performance in some sampled commercial banks in Nigeria. The population of the study is made
up of four sampled commercial banks in Nigeria. The banks include: Access bank Plc, First
Bank of Nigeria Plc, Fidelity Bank Plc and Zenith Bank Plc. Result indicated that there is a
strong positive correlation between strategies adapted to control and reduce stress and
employees performance. The data presented and analyzed were based on findings from the
questionnaire distributed to the employees of the four banks. The researchers distributed 250
copies of the questionnaire to the respondents. Out of the 250 copies of the questionnaire
distributed, 212 were properly filled and found relevant for the study, while the remaining 38
copies of the questionnaire were either not properly filled or misplaced by the respondents. This
shows a response rate of 85 percent. Likert-type items on a five point scale and open-ended
questions were employed to measure the perceptions of the respondents on the effects of stress
on employee performance in some sampled banking sector in Nigeria. Data obtained are
presented using the tabular format, and analyzed using percentage method. From the analyzed
data, chi-square statistical technique was used to test the hypotheses. The study concluded that
workplace stress among employees must be handled with utmost seriousness if productivity of
the organization is to be increased at any point in time since only healthy workers can contribute
maximally to the growth and development of the work organization. The study recommended that
the management of Nigerian Commercial Banking Industry as a matter of necessity should
contrive a new method of job allocation to employees in order to prevent workload. The study
recommended that banking sector should ensure that there are regular workshops and
conferences on stress management among workers in the Nigerian banking sector
Entrepreneurship and Innovation - The Basis for A Global Economy in Recession
Entrepreneurship, with its focus on opportunities, is often seen as one of the foundations of poverty alleviation.
This paper, therefore, seeks to discuss entrepreneurship and small business as the bedrock in the global economy
in recession. One of the factors that influence the economy of a nation, either directly or indirectly. It is a fact
that entrepreneurship plays a significant part in shaping the landscape of a country’s economy. Economists and
policy makers recognize this fact. Entrepreneurship is the engine of economic growth and it has come to be
perceived as a catalytic agent for expansion and promotion of productive activities in every sphere of economic
life all over the world. This research focus on finding out how entrepreneurship influences the global economy in
recession. The main objective of this paper is to show the significant of small business impact on the global
