Do murdoṁ ke lie guldastā (A bunch of flowers for two corpses) is a novel by Surendra Varmā, published for the first time in 1998. It is a sort of reversed Bildungsroman, with a highly theatrical flavor, still almost unknown among Western readers and largely overlooked by Hindi scholars. With this paper I aim at investigating two specific aspects of the text that may encourage reflections on a planetary scale: the deconstruction of conventional gender roles and the presence of intertextual irony. After introducing the plot and the main characters — not only the corpses mentioned in the title, but also the city of Mumbai where most of the events take place — I will firstly linger over the pictures of masculinity and femininity provided by the author, and the beneath problematization of conventional gender roles. As regards this, I argue that  Surendra Varmā’s novel should be read as a possible counterpart of Hindi feminist writing, as it represents a different perspective from which to observe the transformations of gender roles and of the relationships between men and women. Subsequently, I will show how the author plays with intertextuality, introducing ironic and often desecrating connections between Itihāsa (particularly the Mahābhārata) and his characters’ vicissitudes. Both these aspects of the novel are extremely thought-provoking and allow to link Varmā’s work to a conspicuous part of contemporary planetary literature

Advances in Concrete Science in the Last 50 Years

Presented by: Dr. Surendra P. Shah, Ph.D. Walter P. Murphy Professor of Civil Engineering (Emeritus) Director, Center for Advanced Cement Based Materials Northwestern University, Evanston, Illinois Considerable progress has been made in understanding and improving the performance of concrete. Fifty years ago, the commonly used concrete had a compressive strength of 20 MPa. Today we talk about concrete with a compressive strength of 300 MPa. In addition to high strength and ultra-high strength concrete, we have developed high performance concrete for enhanced durability. Recently, the American Concrete Institute has started new committees on ultra-high performance concretes as well as on nanotechnology. Prof. Shah has been extensively involved in these developments during the last 50 years. He will discuss several mutli-discplinary projects that have led to advances we have made in strength, ductility, fracture properties, fiber reinforced concrete, ultrahigh performance concrete, self consolidating concrete, rheology and sustainability

Digital India at the Grassroots: The Changing Landscape of Public Service Delivery through Common Service Centres

The Digital India Mission identifies Common Service Centres (CSCs) as pivotal institutions for last-mile digital governance and citizen–state engagement. This paper conducts a critical review of related literature, policy frameworks, and government reports to evaluate the role, performance, and challenges of CSCs in facilitating public service delivery across rural and semi-urban India. Employing a structured literature review methodology, the study synthesises insights across four key dimensions: digital infrastructure, human–digital capability, governance and accountability, and citizens’ experiences at CSCs. The findings reveal persistent challenges, including deficits in digital literacy, uneven infrastructural development, bureaucratic inefficiencies, gender and socioeconomic disparities, and regional imbalances that affect CSC functionality and inclusivity. The analysis further indicates that CSCs operate as dual spaces both empowering and exclusionary shaped by mediated access, local governance structures, and social hierarchies. To conceptualise these dynamics, the paper proposes a framework situating CSCs within broader socio-technical systems of governance, capability development, and market interaction. The study concludes with targeted policy recommendations aimed at enhancing the efficiency and equity of digital public service delivery. These include strengthening institutional accountability, promoting digital capacity building, and ensuring inclusive access to digital infrastructure in marginalised regions

Czy mniej może znaczyć więcej? O autorskiej koncepcji słownika ortograficznego

The author presents the assumptions of his recently published spelling dictionary of the Polish language (Slownik ortograficzny wspolczesnego jezyka polskiego z poradnikiem. Poznan: Silva Rerum, 2022). The article discusses the features of the term ‘author’s spelling dictionary’, as well as the complexity of Polish spelling and punctuation rules. The main part of the text is dedicated to the structure of the dictionary’s explanatory section and entry part. The author’s aim was to create a dictionary based on explaining Polish orthography in a way that is quickly understandable to the general reader. The dictionary and its explanatory section may be regarded as popular science, although they also contain strictly scientific and meta-scientific structures. The distinctive feature of the dictionary is that its entry list contains only those words in which a language user is likely to make a mistake. The author places special emphasis on the claim that he has created a spelling dictionary that teaches the mechanisms of the language and does not require the reader to constantly check for separate words.Tekst stanowi prezentację założeń autorskiego słownika ortograficznego: Surendra, Sebastian. ABSTRACT: An accurate, precise and reproducible UV-spectrophotometric methods and liquid chromatographic assay method were developed and validated for the determination of Levofloxacin and Ornidazole in tablet dosage form. Spectrophotometric estimation was done by simultaneous equation method and 50 % methanol as solvent. In this method λmax for LEVO and OZ were selected at 293.5nm and 318nm. RP-HPLC analysis was carried out using Prontosil C-18 column (4.6 x 250mm, 5μ particle size) and mobile phase composed of Acetonitrile: 0.05 % Ortho-phosphoric acid in water pH 3.0 (45:55 % v/v)at a flow rate of 1.0 ml/min and chromatogram was recorded at 303 nm. Linearity was evaluated over the concentration range of 4-20 μg/ml and 8-40 μg/mL for LEVO and OZ in both UV spectrophotometric and RP-HPLC method (the value of r 2 Keywords
