ARFIMA and ARTFIMA Processes in Time Series with Applications

    No full text
The objective of this study is to discuss different fractional time series processes, such as Autoregressive Fractional Integrated Moving Average (ARFIMA), which are also called long-memory or persistent models. Due to the very nature of long memories, these processes have an obvious bearing on forecast and are worthy of study. Another variant of these processes is Autoregressive Temporal Fractional Integrated Moving (ARTFIMA), which applies a tempered fractional difference to the standard Autoregressive Moving Average (ARMA) process. Various estimation and forecast methods are discussed, and utility of these models is illustrated with application to real data sets

Improving Task Scheduling and Resource Allocation by Optimizing Swarm Based Metaheuristic Algorithm with Evolutionary Based Optimizer

    No full text
Cloud computing has transformed traditional service deployment methods, allowing users to access various services such as Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS), Platform as a Service (PaaS), and Software as a Service (SaaS) without investing in their own infrastructure. Task scheduling within these environments is critical for optimizing resource utilization, minimizing completion times, and ensuring cost-effectiveness. Scheduling tasks with varying complexities and resource requirements remains a significant challenge due to its NP-complete nature. This research addresses this challenge by proposing a hybridized approach that integrates swarm-based and evolutionary-based metaheuristic algorithms to enhance task scheduling efficiency. The research brings forward a combined modal which focuses on optimizing the Honey Badger Algorithm (swarm based) with Genetic Algorithm (evolutionary based) to improve task scheduling performance by reducing makespan time. this is compared to AntLion Optimizer and original HBA. With such a combination of global exploration capabilities of swarm based with refinement and exploitation strengths of evolutionary algorithms the proposed optimized algorithm tries to achieve better allocation of tasks and resource utilization with improved makespan time. This optimised algorithm was tested against the Ant Lion Optimizer and the original HBA through multiple scenarios with varying values of Probability ratio (PR) and VM and task counts. The analysis also implies the importance of right choice of algorithm based on the specific task requirements, considering the number of VM, tasks, and varying hyperparameters like PR in this case. Analysis results show that the proposed hybrid HBA-GA approach outperforms existing methods in terms of reducing makespan time and balancing workload distribution across resources thus increasing performance. This research contributes to the advancement of cloud computing task scheduling by presenting a novel hybrid algorithm that enhances scalability, reliability, and overall performance, addressing the limitations of traditional and standalone metaheuristic algorithms

'Age' of the prosecutrix: An aggravating factor in the punishment of sexual offences

Much like when individual cells within a multicellular organism express different genes from the same DNA blueprint, individual microbial cells located within different regions of a biofilm structure can exhibit distinct genetic programs. These spatially defined regions of physiologically differentiated cells are reminiscent of the role of tissues in multicellular organisms, with specific subpopulations in the microbial community serving defined roles to promote the overall health of the biofilm. The functions of these subpopulations are quite diverse and can range from dormant cells that can withstand antibiotic onslaughts to cells actively producing extracellular polymeric substances providing integrity to the entire community. The purpose of this review is to discuss the diverse roles of subpopulations in the stability and function of clonal biofilms, the methods for studying these subpopulations, and the ways these subpopulations can potentially be exploited for therapeutic intervention

Moving Towards Sustainable Connectivity: Bibliometric Analysis of IoT-Enabled Financial Sustainability Trends

    No full text
The Internet of Things (IoT) is one of the biggest technical advances in recent years, improving our lives in many different ways. One important area of its application is sustainable development. Additionally, funds’ availability is as crucial for sustainable development as IoT. The relationship between technological advancements like big data, blockchain, artificial intelligence (AI), mobile platforms, and the IoT with finance is referred to as “digital finance”. The financial system has been digitalized for a while now. The capacity to quickly, accurately, affordably, and conveniently access vast amounts of complex data related to investments and sustainability consequences accelerates transparency and helps public institutions monitor the regulatory aspects of sustainable development. This study aims to investigate the characteristics of prior studies to comprehend the most recent developments in IoT and sustainable finance. A bibliometric analysis is performed on 306 research publications retrieved from the Scopus database and published between 2011 and 2024. Software tools like VOS-Viewer and Biblioshiny with R Studio are used for the analysis. The study is capable to summarise the traits and patterns of IoT and sustainable finance research. Moreover, the research identifies well-known authors, journals, and institutions and finds the research articles with the highest citation counts and the fastest-growing theme of the domain. This paper offers insightful recommendations to academicians for their future research

Motion artefact reference sensor study for ECG signals

    No full text
ECG signals captured almost always have motion artefact noise. This noise arises due to relative motion between the ECG electrode and skin. To remove this noise a reference signal is required that correlates to the noise. This thesis presents the design and test results of a prototype system that incorporates various motion sensors into an ECG electrode and finds correlation between the motion artefacts and motion sensors

A Bent- Double Beggar: A Study of Narrative Technique in the Short Story of Ruskin Bond

    Get PDF
According to Percy Lubbock, the craft of fiction is the most important and intricate part of writing. The short stories of O’Henry, Guy de Maupassant, Edgar Allan Poe, and our own Ruskin Bond are so popular and intriguing because of their artistic value. This research paper attempts to critically analyze the narrative techniques used in one of the stories of Ruskin Bond tilted The “Bent-Double Beggar” taken from the book Our Trees Still Grow in Dehra, for which Bond received the prestigious Sahitya Academy Award in 1992. &nbsp
