Chocolate consumption and purchasing behaviour review: Research issues and insights for future research

Chocolate is consumed all over the world. Since its origin, it has undergone many transformations to meet changing market demand. A better understanding of consumer behaviour is a key objective of any business, and so it is for chocolate businesses. In order to fulfil this aim, the current study presents a systematic literature review of consumers' consumption and purchasing behaviour towards cocoa and chocolate. Two databases have been used to collect the literature: Scopus andWeb of Science. The Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) flow diagram was used to identify the articles through the process of data screening and extractions. A total of sixty-four scientific articles have been selected. Research topics, methodological approach and data collection method were identified for each article selected. Then, the identified topics were grouped into four categories in order to obtain a model of major determinants in chocolate consumption: personal preferences, product attributes, socio-demographic factors and economic attributes. Results show that there is a strong focus on Fair Trade in chocolate. Moreover, the current literature review supports the fact that the price and promotion are under-investigated issues. This research represents a valuable tool, especially from a marketing point of view, by creating new channels and new sales opportunities for chocolate products

Does fairness matter? Consumers' perception of fairness in the agro-food chain

IntroductionDefining 'fairness' in the agro-food sector is a challenging task. There is no single definition of fairness and the literature does not provide a complete conceptualization from the consumer's point of view. The current research seeks to explore the consumers' interest in fairness and ethics in the agro-food chain by exploring (i) a comprehensive theoretical framework to conceptualize fairness from a consumer perspective, and (ii) the consumers' perceived importance of different food attributes as fairness-related aspects. MethodLiterature review and focus groups allowed for the creation of the final survey to be submitted to consumers. 529 valid responses from a predominantly Italian female sample were collected. Data were elaborated with Exploratory Factor Analysis and ANOVA test. ResultsThe research identified five dimensions of fairness: Fair price, environment, networking, short chain, and working condition. Also, it emerged that age influences consumers' perceived importance of products with fair attributes. DiscussionThis research contributes to the development of a fairer and more sustainable food system by identifying perceptions of agro-food chain fairness and establishing a link with food shopping intentions. The research provides companies with suggestions on how to expand sales by reaching a greater number of consumers

Influence of rotation on axisymmetric plasma equilibria: Double-null DTT scenario

We study the influence of toroidal plasma rotation on some relevant tokamak equilibrium quantities. The Grad-Shafranov equation generalised to the rotating case is analytically solved employing two different representations for the homogenous solution. Using an expression in terms of polynomials, we describe the separatrix shape by a few geometrical parameters, reproducing different plasma scenarios such as double-null and inverse triangularity. In this setting, the introduction of toroidal rotation corresponds to variations on relevant plasma quantities, most notably an enhancement of the poloidal beta. Using a more general expression in terms of Bessel functions, we reconstruct the full plasma boundary of the double-null configuration proposed for the upcoming Divertor Tokamak Test experiment, demonstrating how said configuration is compatible with different values of the plasma velocity

Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis

The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed

BUILDING RETROFITTING TAILORED SOLUTION WITH BIM TECHNOLOGY: A CASE STUDY ON SOCIAL HOUSING FROM THE 1980’S IN ROME, ITALY

Retrofit, not demolish. The larger part of the residential buildings constructed in Italy between the 1950s and the 1980s is made up of buildings that consume large amounts of energy and offer little comfort levels in return. Tearing down and rebuilding is an option that is not only taxing on the environment but also requires a long-term living alternative for the tenants. Retrofitting on the other hand has less environmental impact and limits the tenants' inconvenience. Digital analysis and design tools allow us to foresee surrounding conditions and the effectiveness of the shell. However, modelling and analysing multiplied by hundreds of housing units has a design cost that is seldom sustainable. The challenge is that of creating a tailored design for large numbers: different conditions found in each unit should lead to a case-specific design therefore increasing cost. Is it possible to imagine a careful and varied design for 140 projects, without its cost? The focus of the research is on specific objectives such as improvement of energy saving performance, thermal and visual comfort for each unit and a renewed image for the building. The analysis carried led to an Irradiance mapping through Autodesk Vasari leads to the choice of sample units. These are then further analysed and mapped for thermal dispersion using EnergyPus+OpenStudio software and the Lighting Analysis add-in for Autodesk Revit for daylighting. The results show positive and negative extremes within the facade. The results are then used to create an envelope system of architectural parametric components, with different performance levels regarding glazing area and insulation. These components can vary their dimensions and thermal properties and can be combined to create the facade. The “re-composition” phase is based on finding a compositional rule within the facade patchwork through the information given by the Irradiation maps

    Variations on the Author

“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship

Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis

We provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature. Finally, we show by means of an example that our findings have a high practical relevance.information science;Pearson correlation;cosine;similarity measure;author cocitation analysis
