One-Handed Covalent Helical Ladder Polymers: The Dawn of a Tailorable Class of Chiral Functional Materials
In the last decades, chemists have developed methods to synthesize helical molecular architectures using a combination of covalent and non-covalent interactions. Very recently, the new class of completely covalent, one-handed helical ladder polymers has vigorously emerged. Such polymers can be rationally and programmably obtained through an approach guided by the principles of chirality-assisted-synthesis (CAS) and making use synergically of two disciplines that have so far rarely interacted: non-planar chiral π-conjugated synthons and ladder polymer chemistry. The precise programmability of the 3D structure and new mechanical and chiroptical properties will lead to potential applications in areas such as enantiorecognition, catalysis, spintronics and chiral-related optoelectronics. Application of an innovative jet pump system for the sediment management in a port channel: Techno-economic assessment based on experimental measurements
The realization of infrastructures in coastal environment modifies water and sediment natural current regime. In particular, sediment can be entrained and accumulated in port infrastructure like docks, haling basins, or port entrances and channels, creating problems for navigation and limiting the human activities. The result is that marine basins and approaches are frequently silted and require maintenance dredging. Dredging is a consolidated and proven technology which implies relevant drawbacks, like high environmental impact on marine flora and fauna, mobility and diffusion of contaminants, and pollutants already present on the seabed, limitations to navigation, relatively high and low predictable costs. Starting from 2001 an innovative plant for sediment management, alternative to maintenance dredging, has been developed and tested. The core of the plant is the "ejector", an open jet pump fed by pressurized water that is able to suck and convey in a pipeline the sediment that may accumulate in a certain area. On August 2018, a pilot plant has been installed in the haling basin of Cattolica (Italy), as part of a pilot initiative included in the Interreg-Med project "Promoting the co-evolution of human activities and natural systems for the development of sustainable coastal and maritime tourism" (CO-EVOLVE). The aim of the specific experimental activity was to test and monitor the efficacy of the technology applied in a port channel and working with sediments like silt and clay instead of sand. Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed

Variations on the Author
“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship
Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis
We provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature. Sustainable sediment management in coastal infrastructures through an innovative technology: the MARINAPLAN PLUS LIFE project
The water field around ports is an area where intense currents and sediment transport rates are usually present and can be affected by low water velocities that take place close to the entrance and inside the port basin. Consequently, sediment can be entrained and accumulated in such areas, creating problems to navigation. The result is that harbour basins and approaches are frequently silted and require ordinary maintenance dredging. The dredging process involves the removal of sediment in its natural deposited condition by using either mechanical or hydraulic equipment. Dredging is a consolidated and proven technology, but involves considerable drawbacks, like notable environmental impact on marine flora and fauna, the increasing of mobility and diffusion of contaminants and pollutants already present on the seabed, the obstruction of navigation and the relatively high and low predictable costs. Moving towards a sustainable sediment management in harbor areas requires the adoption of innovative technologies able to reduce the environmental impacts and to minimize and standardize costs. The paper shows the preliminary results of the MARINAPLAN PLUS LIFE project, which aims to develop and test an innovative sediment by-passing plant alternative to dredging
