Indonesian students, as EFL learners, often experience problems in writing English sentences; especially they find it difficult to apply correct tenses while writing an English sentence. Considering the importance of tenses in learning English writing, Indonesian students have to master the English tenses to be able to write a correct English sentence. Meanwhile, pocket chart can reduce the difficulties which are faced by the students on their English sentence writing. Pocket chart is a kind of teaching media used in teaching learning process which has pockets for word cards in which the students are able to arrange them into good sentences. In this study, pocket chart refers to a piece of vinyl material that was made 120 cm long and 90 cm high with the transparent plastic pockets stuck on for the place of the word cards. While, word cards are colorful papers that are written by one word on them for arranging sentences by placing them on pocket chart. They were made 12 cm high. By using pocket chart the students can learn how to apply English tenses in a sentence in easy ways. This research was conducted to investigate whether or not there was a significant effect of using pocket chart on tenses mastery in writing English sentences of the seventh grade students at SMPN 3 Tanggul Jember. The respondents of this research were the seventh grade students of SMPN 3 Tanggul Jember in the 2010/2011 academic year that was determined by cluster random sampling using lottery after conducting homogeneity test before. The total number of the respondent was 72 students, divided into experimental group and control group. The experimental group consisted of 36 students which were taught by using pocket chart as the media in teaching tenses on their sentence writing, while the control group consisted of 36 students which were taught conventionally by using blackboard as the media in teaching tenses on their sentence writing. The primary data of this research were collected from the students’ score of sentence writing test, while the supporting data of the research were gained through interview and documentation. The primary data were collected and then analyzed by using t-test formula on SPSS Computing program. The result indicated that the value of statistical Sig. (2-tailed) was 0.41 and the degree of freedom 70. Thus, it is lower than that of the significance level used (0.041 < 0.05). It means that the null hypothesis (Ho): “There is no significant effect of using pocket chart on Tenses mastery in writing English sentences of the seventh grade students at SMPN 3 Tanggul Jember” is rejected. On the contrary, the alternative Hypothesis (Ha) that is formulated: “There is a significant effect of using pocket chart on Tenses mastery in writing English sentences of the seventh grade students at SMPN 3 Tanggul Jember” is accepted. Furthermore, the results of each indicator showed that statistic probabilities (Sig. 2-tailed) for Simple Present tense was lower than the significance level (0.044 < 0.05) and for Present Continuous tense was also lower than the significance level (0.045 < 0.05). It means that there are significant effects of using pocket chart on Simple Present tense and Present Continuous tense mastery in writing English sentences of the seventh grade students at SMPN 3 Tanggul Jember. Therefore, it had been proved that that there was a significant effect of using pocket chart on tenses mastery in writing English sentences of the seventh grade students at SMPN 3 Tanggul. Based on the result of this research, it is recommended to the English teacher to also use pocket chart as an alternative teaching aid because it is relatively easy to make

Recently, incorporating technology in English as a foreign language (EFL) courses has been the topic of much debate. Technology can facilitate student interaction in the learning process and create an interactive and communicative classroom environment. Zoom is a solution for faculty members to engage and motivate students in virtual courses as it provides real interaction and direct feedback. This present study aimed to explore EFL students' perceptions as well as attitudes toward synchronous learning through Zoom Videoconferencing. The participants were 72 undergraduate students in the Intensive Reading course. The data was collected through questionnaires, observations, and interviews. The contents of the instrument were validated using expert judgment. The quantitative data were analyzed by using descriptive statistics while qualitative data were analyzed using thematic coding. The findings demonstrated that students had positive perceptions of Zoom videoconferencing in terms of actual use, perceived ease of use, intrinsic motivation, behavioral intention, and attitude. Further research into using Zoom videoconferencing to develop innovations in an online course is strongly recommended. HIGHLIGHTS: • Zoom videoconferencing provides several benefits in terms of actual use, perceived ease of use, and satisfaction. Positive perceptions among students are related to their habits as digital natives and adjustments in post-pandemic classroom instruction which integrate technology in the educational setting. • The learners’ positive attitude, they were satisfied with the course content, they felt comfortable participating in group discussions since the faculty designed interesting tasks and well-instructions and explanations. By doing so, this fun atmosphere in the teaching and learning process could promote peer interaction and build their social community. • Synchronous videoconferencing can create an accessible, flexible, and effective classroom environment, facilitate an engaging online learning environment, and increase interactive and communicative interaction between teachers and students. By doing so, faculty members can create virtual courses utilizing Zoom videoconferencing for live interaction and an engaging classroom environment

Differences in understanding the distribution pattern of inheritance rights potentially cause disputes which fade the family relationships and merge endless conflicts among the family members. The aim of the research is to comprehend the implementation of inheritance dispute arrangement based on local wisdom as an alternative method in achieving the community’s balance and harmony that they still consider the arrangement through a court action as a taboo of settlement. The research shows several findings; factors that influence the differences in the distribution of inheritance in Gayasan A, Jenggawah, Jember Regency are the absence of communication between the heirs (the giver) and heirs, which is known as debik kek lopaen; and the community’s view of the heirs also influence the distribution of inheritance rights, so that local wisdom is needed as a strategic tool in arranging the disputes by implementing internal discussions among the family members mediated by a customary head and a sanction of exclusion (not diajepi). Data collection was conducted through a combination of literature study and field study by triangulating the results of observations, interviews and questionnaires. The research design applied was the sociology of law with an approach of problem on the unwritten customary law implemented in the community of Gayasan A as a social fact developed from the value system of the community and supported by a theoretical approac

Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis

The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed

    Variations on the Author

“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship

Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis

We provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature. Finally, we show by means of an example that our findings have a high practical relevance.information science;Pearson correlation;cosine;similarity measure;author cocitation analysis

Dispelling the Myths Behind First-author Citation Counts

We conducted a full-scale evaluative citation analysis study of scholars in the XML research field to explore just how different from each other author rankings resulting from different citation counting methods actually are, and to demonstrate the capability of emerging data and tools on the Web in supporting more realistic citation counting methods. Our results contest some common arguments for the continued use of first-author citation counts in the evaluation of scholars, such as high correlations between author rankings by first-author citation counts and other citation counting methods, and high costs of using more realistic citation counting methods that are not well-supported by the ISI databases. It is argued that increasingly available digital full text research papers make it possible for citation analysis studies to go beyond what the ISI databases have directly supported and to employ more sophisticated methods
