    No full text
Introduction: It is believed that approximately 10% of feminine population has endometriosis (although there is an infra diagnosis and the number of women that suffers this disease could be much larger). It is a chronic, estrogen-dependent disease that consists in the presence of active endometrial tissue outside the uterus. The most frequent symptoms are chronic pelvic pain, dysmenorrhea, dyspareunia, and infertility. Objective: The aim of this review is to analyze the influence of the endometriosis associated symptoms on a patient’s health-related quality of life. Methodology: Integrative review of literature. It’s been done a research in the following databases: Pubmed, Scopus, Web of Science (wos), cinahl, scielo y cuiden. The development of a tool validated by a group of experts formed by gynecologists, midwives and phD. Results: 666 articles were found after applying filters, but only 21 articles were finally selected according to the selection criteria, abstract reading and measure of the evidence quality using tools such as caspe and strobe. Conclusion: Endometriosis has a strong negative impact on a patient’s health-related quality of life, it is necessary to have a consensus on the symptoms due to the lack of a gold standard

Estudio comparativo y correlacional sobre la regulación emocional en contextos rurales y urbanos

    No full text
Introduction: The literature defines emotional regulation (er) as a process through which people modify their emotions and behaviors in order to adapt to the context or to promote individual and collective well-being. Objective: The aim of this study is to measure er strategies in populations of different age range, sex/gender and context of residence (urban or rural). Methodology: A descriptive design was used. The two most used er strategies (cognitive reappraisal and expressive suppression) were measured using the Emotional Regulation Questionnaire. A total of 302 people (68.87% women) aged between 18 and 90 years (X– = 33.15; = 16.65) participated. Data collection was done both face-to-face and online in both contexts. We hypothesize that there are significant differences between er strategies in relation to context and sex/gender; and that there are significant relationships between age range and er strategies. Results: The results suggest some significant differences in the use of er strategies by context, sex/gender and age group. Regarding the relationships between age range and er strategies, some positive and significant relationships are identified. Conclusions: The results provide some guidance on the effect of the variables assessed on the use of er strategies, and partially support the hypotheses. Future research is suggested to study in a controlled manner the effect of the studied variables on er, adopting an inclusive and integrative perspective, considering the context of residence, sex/gender diversity and age

Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis

The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed

    Variations on the Author

“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship

Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis

We provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature. Finally, we show by means of an example that our findings have a high practical relevance.information science;Pearson correlation;cosine;similarity measure;author cocitation analysis

Dispelling the Myths Behind First-author Citation Counts

    Get PDF
We conducted a full-scale evaluative citation analysis study of scholars in the XML research field to explore just how different from each other author rankings resulting from different citation counting methods actually are, and to demonstrate the capability of emerging data and tools on the Web in supporting more realistic citation counting methods. Our results contest some common arguments for the continued use of first-author citation counts in the evaluation of scholars, such as high correlations between author rankings by first-author citation counts and other citation counting methods, and high costs of using more realistic citation counting methods that are not well-supported by the ISI databases. It is argued that increasingly available digital full text research papers make it possible for citation analysis studies to go beyond what the ISI databases have directly supported and to employ more sophisticated methods

Compendi d'articles, Doctorat internacionalThis dissertation explores the intricate and diverse nature of human sexuality, emphasizing its pervasive presence across various media and its profound influence on the mind and body. Decades of scientific research have significantly advanced our understanding of the interplay between emotions, neurophysiological components, and human sexuality. Nevertheless, much about human sexuality remains unknown. Aiming to enhance existing knowledge, this doctoral thesis examines the affective and physiological responses to diverse visual sexual stimuli, with a special focus on explicit pornographic content. It contributes to a deeper understanding of the relationship between emotions, psychophysiology, and sexual diversity. Firstly, the dissertation addresses the lack of standardized picture sets including diverse and inclusive visual sexual stimuli for experimental and clinical settings. Secondly, it develops a comprehensive standardized set of pornographic pictures covering various sexual practices such as masturbation, oral sex, vaginal sex, anal sex, group sex, and paraphilia, while including both same-sex and opposite-sex content. These images were rated by participants of self-reported same- and exclusive opposite-sex attraction on affective variables such as valence, arousal, dominance, disgust, and moral and ethical acceptance. Thirdly, an experimental study assessed subjective, peripheral, and central physiological responses in heterosexual and homosexual women and men to diverse visual sexual stimuli. The results indicate that considering participants' sexual orientation and preferences is crucial for accurately evaluating responses to visual sexual stimuli. Participants' affective perceptions, reflected in subjective, peripheral, and neural responses to sexually relevant pictures, varied based on their gender, sexual attraction, and the content of the images. This dissertation emphasizes the need for further research to better understand the emotional and physiological dimensions of sexuality, with a specific focus on inclusive representation to improve sexual and mental health outcomes. Investigating affective processes, peripheral mechanisms, and brain function related to the processing of visual sexual stimuli can not only advance our understanding of the psychophysiology of sexual response but also provide clinically relevant knowledge to improve the prevention, detection, and treatment of sexual problems for everyone.Programa de Doctorat en Psicologi

    koamabayili/VECTRON-author-checklist: VECTRON author checklist

We have done our best to complete the author checklist relating to the use of animals in the hut study. Note that the objective for the hut study was to evaluate the IRS treatment applications for residual efficacy against Anopheles mosquitoes, including the local An. coluzzii mosquito population. Cows were only used to attract mosquitoes into the huts and no tests were carried out directly on the cows. The author checklist is intended for use with studies where experiments are carried out on animals, which is why we have had such difficulty in completing this for the hut study, as many of the questions do not relate to how the cows were used
