The genre of writing in prose by Dmitry Shevarov
The report will present an analysis of the genre of writing in the book of literary portraits by Dmitry Shevarov “Kind Faces”. It is supposed to show that writing is one of the system–forming elements in the plot of “Kind Faces”: the author, introducing letters into the genre of literary portrait, makes the text more documentary and – at the same time – more personal. The purpose of the report is an attempt to typologize the variety of letters in the book “Kind Faces” and analyze their functional significance
Choosing a laser for laser speckle contrast imaging
The use of laser speckle contrast imaging (LSCI) has expanded rapidly for characterizing the motion of scattering particles. Speckle contrast is related to the dynamics of the scattering particles via a temporal autocorrelation function, but the quality of various elements of the imaging system can adversely affect the quality of the signal recorded by LSCI. While it is known that the laser coherence affects the speckle contrast, it is generally neglected in in vivo LSCI studies and was not thoroughly addressed in a practical matter. In this work, we address the question of how the spectral width of the light source affects the speckle contrast both experimentally and through numerical simulations. We show that commonly used semiconductor laser diodes have a larger than desired spectral width that results in a significantly reduced speckle contrast compared with ideal narrow band lasers. This results in a reduced signal-to-noise ratio for estimating changes in the motion of scattering particles. We suggest using a volume holographic grating stabilized laser diode or other diodes that have a spectrum of emitted light narrower than ≈1 nm to improve the speckle contrast.D.D. A grating period was equal to 400 nm, a relief height was equal to 110 nm. Simulation by FDTD method and Rayleight-Zommerfeld integral shown that there are radial polarized light beam in the far field with smooth angle dependence on the beam circle observation position. It was shown experimentally, that a gaussian laser beam with wavelength of 633 nm reflected from the polarization conversion plate contain a radially polarized light
Data from: Dairy products viscosity estimated by laser speckle correlation
Dairy products exhibit several physical properties that are crucial to define whether we like the food or not: firmness, creaminess, thickness, or lightness. Viscosity changes the flow properties of food and influences the appearance and the consistency of a product; this control variable is important in most production stages—manufacture, processing, and storage. Viscosity of heterogeneous products at a given temperature depends on its composition and physical state of its substances. Although rheology provides a method to access the product viscosity, it lacks non-contact full-field monitoring. We apply a simple correlation analysis of laser speckle images to evaluate viscosity properties of dairy products. Our approach ensures robust measurements with high degree of detectability

This is the largest spectroscopic study of quasar variability to date: our study includes 29 spectroscopic epochs from SDSS-RM over 6 months, containing 357 quasars with Mg ii and 41 quasars with Hβ . On longer timescales, the study is also supplemented with two-epoch data from SDSS-I/II. The SDSS-I/II data include an additional 2854 quasars with Mg ii and 572 quasars with Hβ . The Mg ii emission line is significantly variable (Δƒ/ƒ ~ 10% on ~100-day timescales), a necessary prerequisite for its use for reverberation mapping studies. The data also confirm that continuum variability increases with timescale and decreases with luminosity, and the continuum light curves are consistent with a damped random-walk model on rest-frame timescales of ≳5 days. We compare the emission-line and continuum variability to investigate the structure of the broad-line region. Broad-line variability shows a shallower increase with timescale compared to the continuum emission, demonstrating that the broad-line transfer function is not a δ-function. Hβ is more variable than Mg ii (roughly by a factor of ~1.5), suggesting different excitation mechanisms, optical depths and/or geometrical configuration for each emission line. The ensemble spectroscopic variability measurements enabled by the SDSS-RM project have important consequences for future studies of reverberation mapping and black hole mass estimation of 1<픃<2 quasars.Peer reviewe
Dmitry Grigorovich’s Literary Memoirs: Axiology and Plot
Принята к печати: 21.10.2022.Submitted: 23.11.2021. Accepted: 21.10.2022. Referring to the memoirs of Dmitry Grigorovich, this article considers the general principles of axiology and plot of the memoir text. A contemporary of Leo Tolstoy and Fyodor Dostoevsky, Grigorovich became the “last chronicler” of the era of the 1840s. In this article, the author attempts to read Literary Memoirs as a work of fiction (novel), establishing typological connections between everyday sketches and essay-like sketches and plot situations that have a literary genesis. First, the author examines the phenomenon of Dmitry Grigorovich’s creative work in the axiology aspects. It is demonstrated that the symbolic capital of the writer’s name, despite the authority and significance of some of his works, was lost by the end of the nineteenth century. In this regard, the main intention of “literary recollections” is understood as an attempt to correct the past (represented by the narratives of Ivan Panaev, Avdotya Panaeva, and Pavel Annenkov), having experienced it in the present, i.e., through writing and auto-description. The main part of the article is devoted to the interpretation of plot models of memoirs and the principles of selection of historical figures. Often this selection itself (the choice of a publicist or a memoirist, what to write about and what to keep silent about) contains significant resources for auto-commentary. For example, in the description of childhood experience, referring the reader to the novels of Charles Dickens, Gustave Flaubert, and John Greenwood, one can trace “heraldic” features that frame the writer’s experience. Particular attention is paid to the figures central to the memoirs — Fyodor Dostoevsky and Alexander Dumas, embodying the specific features of the national writer and genius, with an individual portrait of Grigorovich himself built between them.
The article is devoted to the study of the current phenomenon of Old Believer literature. The material of the study was the Old Believer fairy tale of Dmitry Urushev «Two Brothers», which thematically continues the previously published book «Star Altair». The relevance of the work is also emphasized by the choice of material that did not previously become the subject of special literary analysis. The purpose of the study is to identify the features of the manifestation of religious motives in the book of Dmitry Urushev. The article names the motives traditional for religious literature: the motive for finding faith, the motive for selling a soul to the devil, the motive for self-sacrifice, the motive for saving prayer. During the analysis, the author reveals the central motive of the work, which determines the artistic features of the text – the ideological content of the tale, the plot of the work, the system of images of characters.
An important feature of D. Urushevv’s book «Two Brothers» in the study is the author’s genre nomination, which allows you to harmoniously interweave fabulous and religious elements in the artistic structure, mix time layers, details of various cultures
