Le parole della crisi, le politiche dopo la pandemia. Guida non emergenziale al post-Covid-19

    No full text

A Novel IoT-Based Architecture for Self-Adaptive Aerodynamic Flow Control System for Motorcycle

    No full text
In this paper, we introduce an autonomous system for aerodynamic flow control for motorcycle based on the Internet of Things (IoT) paradigm. The architecture we propose adapts dynamically the flows at the traveling conditions, in order to obtain an improvement of performance and vehicle stability. In our architecture, we deploy a group of sensors on the top surface of the wings to sense the air pressure. We design a centralized on-board unit that computes a new wing angle of attack according to the data received from the sensors. The on-board unit includes a local information database which represents its knowledge: it stores both the data gathered by the sensors and the fluid dynamics model used to compute and adjust the angle of attack. The on-board database is periodically updated transmitting all the measurements gathered from the sensors to a High-Performance Cloud Data Center (DC) which executes a parallel version of Computational Fluid Dynamics (CDF) algorithms, computes the updated model, and transmits the processed information back to the on-board unit. We perform preliminary tests in the wind tunnel, and we show how the cooperation between IoT devices and DC can reduce the on-board unit computational effort

Morse index and bifurcation of p-geodesics on semi Riemannian manifolds.

Given a one-parameter family {gλ : λ ∈ [a, b]} of semi Riemannian metrics on an ndimensional manifold M, a family of time-dependent potentials {Vλ : λ ∈ [a, b]} and a family {σλ : λ ∈ [a, b]} of trajectories connecting two points of the mechanical system defined by (gλ, Vλ), we show that there are trajectories bifurcating from the trivial branch σλ if the generalized Morse indices μ(σa) and μ(σb) are different. If the data are analytic we obtain estimates for the number of bifurcation points on the branch and, in particular, for the number of strictly conjugate points along a trajectory using an explicit computation of the Morse index in the case of locally symmetric spaces and a comparison principle of Morse Schoenberg type

From Sensors to the Cloud: A Real-Time Use-case on Vertical Integration

    No full text
We present a vertical integration of a real-time Industrial Internet of Things environment with Cloud computing functionalities. We designed our testbed to implement self-adaptive wings for motorbikes using pressure values sensed in specific locations of the motorbike as input data collected exploiting open-hardware devices called OpenMotes which communicate through a low-power, delay-constrained wireless network based on the 6LoWPAN protocol stack. Our real-time on-board unit elaborates the data, and it computes the new angle of attack of two wings. The total response time of the system is in the order of 100 ms and meets the real-time requirements that constrains our scenario. Finally, we integrate our system with Cloud functionalities that we use for storing the acquired data on a time-series database

Mortalità nei comuni della Provincia di Brindisi,1981-2001

Abstract Introduction: Brindisi is a town on the South coast of the Adriatic sea, where many sources of air pollutants are located nearby the urban area. A part from the airport and the harbour, mainly for passenger traffic to Greece, a wide industrial area is present (petrochemical, power plants, chemical, pharmaceutical, metallurgical, manufacturing). In seven municipalities, illegal dumps have been found. South west of Brindisi is the province of Taranto, whose industrial area includes steels factory, a refinery and a cement factory. In both provinces, an area at «high risk of environmental crisis » has been identified by the Italian Ministry of Environment. In the Brindisi area, mortality from all causes, cancers and respiratory diseases. in 1990-1994 was found to be in excess Objectives: to estimate mortality among residents in the twenty municipalities of the province aggregated in four geographic areas: the one at «high risk» including the main town, and the areas located North. West and South of the Brindisi «high risk» area. Design: descriptive geographical study. 50 e&panno 32 (1) gennaio-febbraio 2008 Setting: mortality analysis by gender, specific causes of death and two ten-year periods between 1981 and 2001. Standardised mortality ratios (Puglia region as referent population) and directly as well as age-standardized rates (ref. European population) have been computed. Main outcome measures: mortality from all causes and fromr forty selected causes. Results: about 3.200 annual deaths have occurred in the province. Results for the high risk area confirm previous analyses while excesses in the other areas have appeared. A few municipalities, requiring a deeper investigation have been identified. Such excesses refer to mortality due to all causes, all cancers, stomach and lung cancers, respiratory and ischemic diseases. Conclusions: this study confirms excesses in the high risk areas and found mortality excesses in other municipality both among males and females. The results suggest to further investigate mortality both in the main town and in the small municipalities where illegal dump have been found and also in those located on the border with Taranto province

Epithelioid hemangioendothelioma: an overview and update on a rare vascular tumor

    No full text
Epithelioid hemangioendothelioma is a rare vascular tumor, described for the first time in 1975 by Dail and Liebow as an aggressive bronchoalveolar cell carcinoma. The etiology is still a dilemma. Studies about suggestive hypothesis are ongoing. Most of the times it affects lung, liver and bones, although this kind of tumor may involve the head and neck area, breast, lymph nodes, mediastinum, brain and meninges, the spine, skin, abdomen and many other sites. Because of its heterogeneous presentation, as it represents less than 1% of all the vascular tumors, it is often misdiagnosed and not suitably treated, leading to a poor prognosis in some cases. Over 50-76% of the patients are asymptomatic. A small number of them complains respiratory symptoms. Bone metastases might cause pathological fractures or spine compression, if they arise in vertebrae. Imaging is necessary to determine morphological data, the involvement of surrounding tissues, and potentially the cleavage plan. It is important to recognize the expression of vascular markers (Fli-1 and CD31 are endothelial-specific markers), and the microscopic evidence of vascular differentiation to make a correct diagnosis, as many pulmonary diseases show multiple nodular lesions. Because of its rarity, there is no standard for treatment. We focused on radiotherapy as a good therapeutic option: despite the poor prognosis, evidence is in favor of radiotherapy which offers local pain control with good tolerance and better quality of life at least at a one-year follow-up in most of cases. Further studies are needed to establish the standard radiation dose to be used for locoregional control of such a complex and extremely rare disease
