Document retrieval Enhancement for researchers
This paper presents a report of an investigation of contemporary software tools that assist the information seekers and users; it also presents a document and information management system based on existing software. This system is intended for research purposes at personal and group level. It should make searching, managing and retrieving documents more complete than they are compared with other document retrieval systems. All this in a given situation: students and researchers dealing with PDF documents downloaded from electronic journals collections

THE IDIOLECT OF REVEREND ECONOMOS DIMITAR POPNIKOLOV PETKANOV
A less studied talented author and brother of the popular fiction writer Konstantin Petkanov, priest
Dimitar wrote in the 1950s. This publication analyzes several parameters of his idiolect: phonetic peculiarities (reflex of ѣ, ѫ,
ъ; epenthetic [l]; reflexes of the [tʃ] [dʒ] groups; phonetic dialectisms; phonetic doublets); morphological paradigm (case
inflections; noun form for number; dualis; nomina collectiva; extended Church Slavonic suffix for adjectives; dialectal and
contracted pronoun forms; a temporal system characterized by high frequency of the verbs in terms of origin, distribution and
stylistic differentiation); lexical specifics (in terms of origin, distribution and stylistic differentiation). Emphasis is placed on
those lexical layers that constitute and ditinguish the author’s language. Hapaxes (produced using morphological and non-
morphological methods), rare words, semantic transponents, dialectisms, colloquial vocabulary and foreign words are studied.
All linguistic phenomena are examined retrospectively and in comparison with the synchronous linguistic situation before and
after the orthographic reform of 1945 in order to highlight the innovative contribution and the mechanisms through which the
author enriched the contemporary Bulgarian vocabulary. Occasionalisms, dialectal and archaic units occur more often in
Petkanov’s poetic works than in his fiction. The source material has been excerpted from Volume 1 (January – March) and
Volume 2 (April – June) of the hagiographic tetralogy “The Year of Our Lord“ and the memoir “A Book about My Brother –
the Writer Konstantin N. Petkanov“, which were published a few years ago by Dimitar Petkanov’s heirs
Imperium Militiae(I)
The most common idea in Romance studies is that Romans, as practical people, didn’t conduct theoretical research on their country or their army, but they gradually built them both. Meanwhile, they reformed and upgraded it, so that they could respond to the challenges of their age. Moreover, the basis of their research was not explicit doctrines, or prior concepts, in fact they used their own, or the experience of others, to find concrete solutions to daily problems. Just as the Hellenic romanophile Polibius (200-120 B.C), in his work Historia, asks the crucial question: ”Is it possible to have such an unreliable man who is not interested in how the Romans, with their unicipal structure, managed to conquer the whole world”? - in the same way the author of this paper, as much as its content allows, humbly and unpretentiously tries to answer the crucial question: “What kind of military structure
created and defended one of the biggest and most enduring empires in world’s history, and what rules governed it”
Linguistic Identification of the Author and Identity Falsification on the Web
Research on modern virtual communication focuses on human communicative behaviour in social networks. For the purposes of successful biometric expertise, linguistic personology is chosen as the most reliable approach. As a complex autonomous interdisciplinary synergistic paradigm, and as a research compendium that uses a wide variety of approaches and methods of modern linguistics, linguistic personology is designed to study the variety of human speech behaviour manifested in the speech of a person. It is also used to identify "bright diagnostic spots" that characterize the verbal messages of any individual linguistic personality in social networks with the purpose of its precise identification. Personality identification, enhanced by linguistic personology methods, is presented as efficient methodology, since it creates conditions for reliability and trust in the process of information exchange, and is based on truthfulness and legitimacy. The compendium of sciences for analyzing speech behaviour and for describing the speech repertoire of the virtual personality is based, on the one hand, on the study of formal discursive characteristics based on style (style-based features), while, on the other, it relies on the study of informal content characteristics (content-based features)
Enhanced services for targeted information retrieval by event extraction and data mining
Where Information Retrieval (IR) and Text Categorization delivers a set of (ranked) documents according to a query, users of large document collections would rather like to receive answers. Question-answering from text has already been the goal of the Message Understanding Conferences. Since then, the task of text understanding has been reduced to several more tractable tasks, most prominently Named Entity Recognition (NER) and Relation Extraction. Now, pieces can be put together to form enhanced services added on an IR system. In this paper, we present a framework which combines standard IR with machine learning and (pre-)processing for NER in order to extract events from a large document collection. Some questions can already be answered by particular events. Other questions require an analysis of a set of events. Hence, the extracted events become input to another machine learning process which delivers the final output to the user's question. Our case study is the public collection of minutes of plenary sessions of the German parliament and of petitions to the German parliament. --
