Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
Get PDFThe present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed
Variations on the Author
Get PDF“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship
Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis
Get PDFWe provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature. Get PDFThe subject of this article is the theoretical, methodological and methodical basis for the formation and forecasting of trends in the development of the dairy market in Ukraine. The purpose of the work is to highlight the current problems of the dairy market of Ukraine and to forecast its development trends in the short term. The following tasks are solved in the article: analysis of the dynamics of changes in the number of cows, milk production and growth of milk yields per cow in Ukraine as a whole and in the context of agricultural enterprises and households during 2010-2018; study of the dynamics of average prices for buying milk by dairy enterprises in the domestic market; evaluation of the quality of cow's milk, which is received for processing, for samples; implementation of economic analysis of milk production in Ukraine, SWOT analysis of the dairy industry in Ukraine. The following research methods are used: comparative and statistical analysis – in the study of cow's milk production in Ukraine as a whole and in the context of agricultural enterprises and households during 2010-2018, as well as the dynamics of average milk yield per cow per average cow population, milk processing volumes, average purchase prices for raw milk and quality of cow's milk by variety; system-structural analysis, logical generalization - when conducting SWOT-analysis of dairy industry of Ukraine; economic-mathematical and graphical modeling - the first-order Brown method for forecasting the dynamics of milk production, milk yield per cow in Ukraine in the 2020-2022 period. The following results were obtained: two opposite tendencies are observed in the dairy market of Ukraine today - the tendency to increase milk yields and the tendency to decrease the dairy herd. For the next three years, based on the first-order Brown method, milk yields per cow are expected to continue to increase as the total number of cows decreases. At the same time, the use of the strengths of the dairy sector of Ukraine and its potential opportunities revealed during the SWOT-analysis, in particular: increase of dairy cattle productivity, increase of extra-class milk production, improvement of control mechanisms of quality and safety of dairy products, gradual expansion for the domestic agro-industrial sector of international rules of trade, insurance, crediting, investing, will allow to diversify trade flows already in the short-term perspective most realize the export potential of the industry, expanding access to EU food markets, Asian and African markets. Conclusions: On the whole, we can identify the state of the Ukrainian dairy market as one that is quite actively developing and has every chance of entering the top five countries that are dynamically increasing the dairy industry in the near future.Предметом исследования статьи являются теоретические, методологические и методические основы формирования и прогнозирования тенденций развития молочного рынка Украины. Цель работы – выделение современных проблем развития молочного рынка Украины и прогнозирование тенденций его развития в краткосрочной перспективе. В статье решаются следующие задачи: проведение анализа динамики изменения поголовья коров, производства молока и роста количества надоев на одну корову в целом в Украине, а также в разрезе сельскохозяйственных предприятий и хозяйств населения в течение 2010-2018 лет; исследование динамики средних цен покупки молока молокоперерабатывающими предприятиями на отечественном рынке; оценивания качества молока коровьего, которое поступает в переработку, по сортам; осуществление экономического анализа производства молока в Украине, SWOT-анализ молочной промышленности Украины. Используются следующие методы: сравнительный и статистический анализ – при исследовании объемов производства молока коровьего в целом в Украине и в разрезе сельскохозяйственных предприятий и хозяйств населения в течение 2010-2018 годов, а также динамики средних надоев на одну корову на среднее поголовье коров, объемов переработки молока, средних закупочных цен на молоко-сырье и качества молока коровьего по сортам; системно-структурный анализ, логическое обобщение – при проведении SWOT-анализа молочной промышленности Украины; экономико-математическое и графическое моделирование – при прогнозировании динамики производства молока, прироста надоев на одну корову в Украине в перспективе на 2020-2022 годы. Получены следующие результаты: на молочном рынке Украины сегодня отслеживаются две противоположные тенденции – тенденция к росту надоев и тенденция к сокращению молочного стада. Согласно прогнозу на следующие три года, выполненного по методу Брауна первого порядка, в дальнейшем будет ожидаться рост надоев на одну корову при сокращении общего поголовья коров. Вместе с тем, использование сильных сторон молочного сектора Украины и его потенциальных возможностей, выявленных при проведении SWOT-анализа, в частности: рост молочной продуктивности скота, увеличения объемов производства молока "экстра-класса", улучшение контрольных механизмов качества и безопасности молочной продукции, постепенное распространение на отечественный агропромышленный сектор международных правил торговли, страхования, кредитования, инвестирования, позволит уже в краткосрочной перспективе осуществить диверсификацию торговых потоков и максимально реализовать экспортный потенциала отрасли, расширив доступ к продовольственным рынкам ЕС, азиатского и африканского рынков. Выводы: В целом можно идентифицировать состояние украинского молочного рынка как таковой, что достаточно активно развивается и имеет все шансы в перспективе войти в пятерку стран-лидеров, которые динамично наращивают молочное направление.Предметом дослідження статті є теоретичні, методологічні й методичні засади формування та прогнозування тенденцій розвитку молочного ринку України. Мета роботи – виокремлення сучасних проблем розвитку молочного ринку України та прогнозування тенденцій його розвитку у короткостроковій перспективі. У статті вирішуються наступні завдання: проведення аналізу динаміки зміни поголів’я корів, виробництва молока та зростання кількості надоїв на одну корову в цілому в Україні та в розрізі сільськогосподарських підприємств і господарств населення протягом 2010-2018 років; дослідження динаміки середніх цін купівлі молока молокопереробними підприємствами на вітчизняному ринку; оцінювання якості молока коров’ячого, яке надходить у переробку, за ґатунками; здійснення економічного аналізу виробництва молока в Україні, SWOT-аналіз молочної промисловості України. Використовуються такі методи дослідження: порівняльний та статистичний аналіз – при дослідженні обсягів виробництва молока коров'ячого в цілому в Україні та в розрізі сільськогосподарських підприємств і господарств населення протягом 2010-2018 років, а також динаміки середніх надоїв на одну корову на середнє поголів'я корів, обсягів переробки молока, середніх закупівельних цін на молоко-сировину та якості молока коров’ячого за ґатунками; системно-структурний аналіз, логічне узагальнення – при проведенні SWOT-аналізу молочної промисловості України; економіко-математичне та графічне моделювання – метод Брауна першого порядку при прогнозуванні динаміки виробництва молока, приросту надоїв на одну корову в Україні в перспективі на 2020-2022 роки. Отримано наступні результати: на молочному ринку України сьогодні відслідковуються дві протилежні тенденції – тенденція до зростання надоїв та тенденція до скорочення молочного стада. За прогнозом на наступні три роки, виконаного за методом Брауна першого порядку, надалі очікуватиметься зростання надоїв на одну корову за скорочення загального поголів’я корів. Разом з тим, використання сильних сторін молочного сектору України та його потенційних можливостей, виявлених при проведенні SWOT-аналізу, зокрема: зростання молочної продуктивності худоби, нарощення обсягів виробництва молока "екстра-класу", покращення контрольних механізмів якості й безпечності молочної продукції, поступове поширення на вітчизняний агропромисловий сектор міжнародних правил торгівлі, страхування, кредитування, інвестування, дозволить вже у короткостроковій перспективі здійснити диверсифікацію торговельних потоків і максимально реалізувати експортний потенціалу галузі, розширивши доступ до продовольчих ринків ЄС, азійського та африканського ринків. Висновки: У цілому можна ідентифікувати стан українського молочного ринку як такий, що досить активно розвивається та має всі шанси в найближчій перспективі увійти в п’ятірку країн-лідерів, які динамічно нарощують молочний напрямок

Our results contest some common arguments for the continued
use of first-author citation counts in the evaluation of scholars, such as high correlations between author rankings by first-author citation counts and other citation
counting methods, and high costs of using more realistic citation counting methods that are not well-supported by the ISI databases. Note that the objective for the hut study was to evaluate the IRS treatment applications for residual efficacy against Anopheles mosquitoes, including the local An. coluzzii mosquito population. Cows were only used to attract mosquitoes into the huts and no tests were carried out directly on the cows. The author checklist is intended for use with studies where experiments are carried out on animals, which is why we have had such difficulty in completing this for the hut study, as many of the questions do not relate to how the cows were used
