Environmental Ethics and Sustainable Development: An Analysis of the Rampal Coal Power Plant in Bangladesh
Environmental ethics and sustainable development maintain a very close relationship with each other. Environmental ethics gives priority to the future generation, and sustainable development also says about development considering the next generation. In this essay, the Rampal coal power plant in Bangladesh has been analyzed, focusing on future generation's sustainability. From this essay, it is found that the environmental specialists and UNESCO argue to stop the project, but from the government is arguing, showing the logic that the project is not harmful to the environment and the project authority can manage the probable environmental degradation because of it. The author of this essay has also found a more persuasive argument against the project
Shear bond strength of composite resin to dentin after application of cavity disinfectants - SEM study
Aim: The aim was to evaluate the effect of different cavity disinfectants on dentin bond strengths of composite resin applied with two different adhesive systems. Materials and Methods: Two-hundred mandibular molars were sectioned parallel to the occlusal surface to expose dentin in the midcoronal one-third. The dentinal surfaces were polished with waterproof-polishing papers. The specimens were randomly divided into five groups of 40 teeth each as follows: group 1(control) -- specimens were not treated with any cavity disinfectants. Groups 2--5 (experimental groups) -- dentin surfaces were treated with the following cavity disinfectants, respectively; 2% chlorhexidine solution, 0.1% benzalkonium chloride-based disinfectant, 1% chlorhexidine gel, and an iodine potassium iodide/copper sulfate-based disinfectant. The specimens were then randomly divided into two subgroups including 20 teeth each to evaluate the effect of different bonding systems. Dentin bonding systems were applied to the dentin surfaces and the composite buildups were done. After the specimens were stored in an incubator for 24 hours, the shear bond strength was measured at a crosshead speed of 1 mm/min. The specimens were then statistically analyzed. Statistical Analysis Used: One way analysis of variance and Tukey-HSD tests were used. Results: There was no significant difference between chlorhexidine gel and control groups regardless of the type of the bonding agent used (P>0.05). On the other hand, pretreatment with benzalkonium chloride-based, iodine potassium iodide/copper sulfate-based disinfectants or chlorhexidine solutions had a negative effect on the shear bond strength of self-etching bonding systems. Conclusions: The findings of this study suggest that when benzalkonium chloride-based, iodine potassium iodide/copper sulfate-based disinfectants or chlorhexidine solutions are used as a cavity disinfectant, an etch-and-rinse bonding system should be preferred
Observed cloud morphology and inferred microphysics over the South Pacific from MISR and MODIS measurements of shortwave reflectivity
A rapid study of boundary layer clouds over the Southern Ocean compared to their Northern Hemisphere counterparts reveals statistical differences in the probability of glaciation at the same cloud-top temperature, and in the respective plane parallel albedo biases. Biotic modifiers, environmental modulation and species distribution models
The ability of species to modulate environmental conditions and resources has long been of interest. In the past three decades the impacts of these biotic modifiers have been investigated as ‘ecosystem engineers’, ‘niche constructors’, ‘facilitators’ and ‘keystone species’. This environmental modulation can vary spatially from extremely local to global, temporally from days to geological time, and taxonomically from a few to a very large number of species. Modulation impacts are pervasive and affect, inter alia, the climate, structural environments, disturbance rates, soils and the atmospheric chemical composition. Biotic modifiers may profoundly transform the projected environmental conditions, and consequently have a significant impact on the predicted occurrence of the focal species in species distribution models (SDMs). This applies especially when these models are projected into different geographical regions or into the future or the past, where these biotic modifiers may be absent, or other biotic modifiers may be present. We show that environmental modulation can be represented in SDMs as additional variables. In some instances it is possible to use the species (e.g. biotic modifiers) in order to reflect the modulation. This would apply particularly to cases where the effect is the result of a single or a small number of species (e.g. elephants transforming woodland to grassland). Where numerous species generate an effect (such as tree species making a forest, or grasses facilitating fire) that modulates the abiotic environment, the effect itself might be a better descriptor for the aggregated action of the numerous species. We refer to this ‘effect’ as the modulator. Much of the information required to incorporate environmental modulation effects in SDMs is already available from remote-sensing data and vegetation models

Cultural Imperialism or Economic Necessity: The Hollywood Factor in the Reshaping of the Asian Film Industry.
ABSTRACT This paper contends that film industries in several Asian countries are in the process of reinventing themselves as traditional approaches to filmmaking are increasingly found not to be economically viable for the industry. Economic challenges to traditional filmmaking are attributed to economic and cultural globalization with the expansion of democracy around the world, which brings Western cultural influences and entertainment styles to increasingly economically well-off and educated people in Asian countries. The paper explains the appeal and adoption of these styles in Asian film industries within the framework of the theories of cultural dependency and media evolution. The paper says that, for now, there is a growing Hollywoodization of Asian films -marked by sexual depictions, scantily clad women, and violence-oriented scripts within the framework of a pleasure-seeking culture. Penyelenggaraan parkir insidentil menurut tiga peraturan daerah Kota Malang dan hukum Islam

Kegiatan- kegiatan besar di setiap daerah terkadang membutuhkan lahan tempat parkir insidentil baik di lingkungan halaman bangunan ataupun di tepi jalan umum. Salah satu tempat kegiatan acara besar seperti di kawasan Lapangan Rampal, dan Car Free Day. Adanya penyelenggaraan parkir insidentil tersebut memudahkan masyarakat untuk menjangkau tempat acara berlangsung. Adapun permasalahan dalam skripsi ini adalah bagaimana penyelenggaraan parkir insidentil menurut tiga Peraturan Daerah kota Malang dan bagaimana penyelenggaraan parkir insidentil menurut Hukum Islam.
Tujuan dari penelitian ini untuk mendeskripsikan bagaimana praktik penyelenggaraan parkir insidentil yang terdapat di titik lokasi kawasan Lapangan Rampal dan Car Free Day menurut tiga Peraturan Daerah kota Malang dan menjelaskan bagaimana penyelenggaraan parkir insidentil menurut Hukum Islam.
Pada penelitian ini penulis menggunakan metode penelitian hukum yuridis empiris. Pendekatan penelitian ini dilakukan terhadap keadaan masyarakat untuk menemukan fakta dengan melihat ketentuan-ketentuan peraturan yang berlaku saat ini. Untuk memperoleh data yang diperlukan, penulis mencari data dari bahan hukum primer melalui observasi dan wawancara dan dari bahan hukum sekunder menggunakan peraturan perundang-undangan, buku-buku, Al-Qur’an, hadits dan jurnal-jurnal yang berkaitan dengan penelitian ini.
Adapun dari hasil penelitian penulis bahwa penyelenggaraan parkir insidentil di kota Malang tidak sesuai dengan ketentuan tiga Peraturan Daerah kota Malang karena pelaksanaan parkir insidentil masih ditemukan tidak melakukan perizinan kepada pemerintah. Sedangkan dalam Hukum Islam ialah mubah karena telah memenuhi syarat akad ijarah. Sehingga pelaksanaannya mubah karena tidak ada nash secara syariat yang melarang atas perbuatan tersebut.

Major activities in each region sometimes require incidental parking spaces either in the courtyard or on public roads. One of the big event venues are in Rampal Field and Car Free Day area. The existence of such incidental parking arrangements makes it easy for the community to reach the venue. The problem in this thesis is how incidental parking practices are according to three Malang City Regulations and how incidental parking practices are according to Islamic Law.
The purpose of this study is to describe how the practice of incidental parking is in the location of the Rampal and Car Free Day Fields with the Malang City Regulation and explain how the incidental parking is carried out according to Islamic Law.
In this study the author uses juridical empirical legal research methods. This research approach is done with the state of the community to find facts by looking at the provisions of the current regulations. To obtain the necessary data, the author seeks data from primary legal materials through observation and interviews and from secondary legal materials using legislation, books, Al-Qur'an, hadiths and journals related to this research.
As for the results of the study, the authors conclude that the implementation of this incidental parking according from three Regional Regulations of the city of Malang has not been fully implemented because the implementation of parking incidental is still found not to permit the government. Whereas in Islamic Law is mubah because it has fulfilled the requirements of the ijarah contract

Abstract Species abundances are undoubtedly the most widely available macroecological data, but can we use them to distinguish among several models of community structure? Here we present a Bayesian analysis of species-abundance data that yields a full joint probability distribution of each model's parameters plus a relatively parameter-independent criterion, the posterior Bayes factor, to compare these models. We illustrate our approach by comparing three classical distributions: the zero-sum multinomial (ZSM) distribution, based on Hubbell's neutral model, the multivariate Poisson lognormal distribution (MPLN), based on niche arguments, and the discrete broken stick (DBS) distribution, based on MacArthur's broken stick model. We give explicit formulas for the probability of observing a particular species-abundance data set in each model, and argue that conditioning on both sample size and species count is needed to allow comparisons between the two distributions. We apply our approach to two neotropical communities (trees, fish). We find that DBS is largely inferior to ZSM and MPLN for both communities. The tree data do not allow discrimination between ZSM and MPLN, but for the fish data ZSM (neutral model) overwhelmingly outperforms MPLN (niche model), suggesting that dispersal plays a previously underestimated role in structuring tropical freshwater fish communities. We advocate this approach for identifying the relative importance of dispersal and niche-partitioning in determining diversity of different ecological groups of species under different environmental conditions
