Geometry of syzygies via Poncelet varieties
V_n=H^0({\P^1},\O_{\P^1}(n)). Definiamo la varietà
We consider the Grassmannian of -dimensional linear
subspaces of
V_n=H^0({\P^1},\O_{\P^1}(n)). We define
as the classifying space of the
-dimensional linear systems of degree on whose
basis realize a fixed number of polynomial relations of fixed
degree, say a fixed number of syzygies of a certain degree.
The first result of this paper is the computation of the dimension of .
In the second part we make a link between and the Poncelet varieties.
In particular, we prove that the existence of linear syzygies
implies the existence of singularities on the Poncelet varieties

Application of statistical mechanics to physical adsorption processes sometimes allows to ascertain the nature of the adsorbed film and therefore the nature of the surface. A study of the state equations, carried out for the case of Na and Ca montmorillonites, seems to prove the existence of two types of "sites".
The first type appears to be sites for localized adsorption of water, and may correspond to the region surrounding the cations which balance the lattice charges (1st hydration sphere of these cations) as well as to a part of the external surface (hydroxylic areas of fracture).
The second type, consisting of sites for delocalized adsorption, is represented by the remainder of the external surface and the interlamellar space ; the first type of sites covers an area of about 300 m2 g-1, whatever the nature of the cation.L'application de la mécanique statistique aux phénomènes d' adsorption physique permet dans certains cas de préciser la nature du film adsorbé et par voie de conséquence la nature de la surface.
Jelli André, Poncelet G. Dispelling the Myths Behind First-author Citation Counts
We conducted a full-scale evaluative citation analysis study of scholars in the XML research field to explore just how different from each other author rankings resulting from different citation counting methods actually are, and to demonstrate the capability of emerging data and tools on the Web in supporting more realistic citation counting methods. Our results contest some common arguments for the continued
use of first-author citation counts in the evaluation of scholars, such as high correlations between author rankings by first-author citation counts and other citation
counting methods, and high costs of using more realistic citation counting methods that are not well-supported by the ISI databases. It is argued that increasingly available digital full text research papers make it possible for citation analysis studies to go beyond what the ISI databases have directly supported and to employ more
sophisticated methods
