No full textCLAUDE FOSSE-POLIAK How can we explain the exceptional social trajectory of agents coming from the dominated classes, who have been prematurely expelled from the school system, and who, after several years as blue-collar workers or low-paid office workers, undertake university studies? The analysis of the biographical trajectory of a formerly working class militant, who works today as a cultural officer and studies sociology, illustrates a specific mode of accumulation of cultural capital, for which access to political or union positions is a key element. The life story is used here not for the understanding of the subjective and singular features of one particular individual, but to suggest more general mechanisms that can serve to illuminate a whole family of trajectories.Résumé : Comment rendre compte des trajectoires scolaires d'exception d'agents issus des classes dominées, précocement éliminés du système scolaire et qui, ouvriers ou employés depuis plusieurs années, entreprennent des études supérieures ? L'analyse méthodique de la trajectoire biographique d'un ex-militant ouvrier, aujourd'hui animateur socio-culturel et étudiant en sociologie, met en évidence un mode particulier d'accumulation du capital culturel où l'accès au champ politique et/ou syndical joue un rôle déterminant. L'usage qui est fait ici du récit de vie ne vise pas autant, en effet, l'appréhension de la subjectivité et de la singularité d'un individu particulier que la mise à jour de mécanismes généraux qui permettent de rendre compte d'une famille de trajectoires.Fossé-Poliak Claude. This article analyses «popular writing practices» based on entries sent in for a short story contest organised by France Loisir («Your greatest love story»). Popular writing is experienced as the product of a «naturel gift», a substitute to verbal interactions, a therapy for private misfortune or the transmission of an experience. It has a predilection for two genres : poetry and diary, and is basically a private affair : one writes for oneself and sometimes «between ourselves». A representation of the France Loisir bookclub as an extension of the «between ourselves» and that of the short story contest as a «feelings contest» of moral qualities (content) lacking only in scholarly qualifies (form) enable to account for the passage from private to public writing that the participation to this contest implies.Ecritures populaires. Cet article étudie les «pratiques d'écriture populaire- à pertir des réponses à un concours de nouvelles organisé par France Loisir ("Votre plus belle histoire d'amour"), vécue comme le produit d'un «don», substitut à l'échange oral, thérapie du malheur privé ou transmission d'une expérience de la vie, l'écriture populaire dont la poésie et le journal intime sont les genres de prédilection, est une écriture privée : écriture «pour soi», parfois élargie à «l'entre soi». No full textNach einer Untersuchung vieler môglichen Bedeutungen Begriffs der Prostitution versucht die Verfasserin in aufzuzeigen, worin im Gegensatz zu den traditionellen Umschreibungen eine soziologische Definition dieser Aktivität bestehen könnte, die sie im Anschluss an die klassischen Arbeiten von M. Mauss und P. Bourdieu eine « définition préalable » (« Vordefini- tion») nennt. Schliesslich beschreibt sie den ideologischen. Hintergrund des Bestrebens, eine menschliche Aktivität in die Fesseln einer Definition zu legen.The logical critic of the definitions for «prostitution» leads us to reject those wich extend the notion to all the sexual practices or to all the venal practices, as well as those which restrict the definition to the sexual venal practices as a professional activity. So we are lead to adopt this preliminary définition : « we use the term 'prostitution' to designate all sexual venal practices ». But the research of social stakes on which are based one or another definition can only explain the variation from the most extensive definition to the most restricted one.La critique logique des définitions de la « prostitution » conduit à rejeter celles qui étendent la notion à l'ensemble des pratiques sexuelles ou à l'ensemble des pratiques vénales, comme d'ailleurs celles qui la restreignent aux pratiques sexuelles vénales «professionnelles». Ainsi est-on conduit à adopter cette « définition préalable » : « on nomme 'prostitution' toute pratique sexuelle vénale ». Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
Get PDFThe present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed
Variations on the Author
Get PDF“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship
Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis
Get PDFWe provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature.
