El periodismo collage de Ryszard Kapuscinski | Ryszard Kapuściński’s Collage Journalism

    No full text
Palabras clavePeriodismo literario;  Ryszard Kapuściński; interdisciplinariedad; collageAbstract Ryszard Kapuściński´s collage journalism has become a controversial topic because of its hard to define genre and because it combines different techniques and approaches that pertain to various disciplines. In this article we will analyze the principal interdisciplinary influences in the author´s work: photography and poetry, social sciences, political science, film, and literature. In order to attest how the visual collage journalism techniques are put into practice, some examples from the author’s main books will be brought to light. Although Kapuściński’s work’s structure is heterogeneous, a common essence is observed: the vivid depiction of some of the most significant events of the 20th century through the author´s intimate experiences in the field. Moreover, Kapuściński´s epistemic responsibility with his work subjects is ever-present, providing space for his readers to judge his credibility for themselves. In memory of Ryszard Ryba (1935–2022)

Ryszard Ryba is a Polish sculptor active in the second half of the 20th century. He was primarily a creator of sacred art, and his works can be found in the churches of the Podkarpacie and Lesser Poland regions (the present dioceses of Przemyśl, Rzeszów, Tarnów and Sandomierz). In addition to sculpting, he was involved in designing sacred interiors and elements of their decor (tabernacles, sedilia, pews, confessionals, etc.), participating in the development of principles for adapting church interiors to the conditions of the reformed liturgy after the Second Vatican Council. He is also the author of graphic and drawing series, which he created especially in the first twenty years of the 21st century. His sculptures, especially those from the beginning of his creative path, are characterised by great simplicity. Their impact is due to their powerful, synthetic form, acting as an expressive sign. With time, his great narrative talent became revealed more and more clearly, and the qualities that built the mood of unique softness and tenderness came to the fore. He was also increasingly willing to reach for topics related to family and everyday life. His artistic oeuvre, however, constitutes a coherent whole which is still intensely impressive

The purpose of the article is to analyze the legacy of Ryszard Kapuściński in the context of the main concepts of ecocriticism. The author of this research focuses on Kapuściński’s poetry, reportage and Lapidaria in order to answer the question how the reporter constructs journalistic and literary representations of nature. The article outlines that the reporter often presents the ecological issues, showing the man as an immanent part of the ecosystem who is particularly obliged to take care of the natural environment

Ryszard Kapuściński, a worldwide-known, prize-winning writer, is also regarded as a controversial author. After his death there are still many people who question the value of his reportages and his credibility as a reporter. In this paper I want to examine the nature of his work on the example of The Emperor: Downfall of an Autocrat. I wish to focus on the way he decided to present his observations from his stays in Ethiopia in the 70s of the 20th century, as well as to find the reasons why he chose a particular writing strategy. This paper seeks to explain the phenomenon of these controversies which tend to place the author either in the world of literature or journalism, as in the title. Furthermore, I will briefly focus on the image of Haile Selassie and his authority as presented in the book. Ryszard Kapuściński described the Ethiopian ruler who already had a big influence on people who surrounded him as he had been on the throne for over forty years. The author of The Emperor examined the relations between those who worked on the court at the time as well. It seems that he found the principles that were followed both there and in the People’s Republic of Poland. In my study, I also want to rely on some other sources such as A Reporter's Self Portrait and Travels with Herodotus by Ryszard Kapuściński and Kapuściński Non-fiction by Artur Domosławski.

    Trafficking in persons:A victim's perspective

    No full text
Historically, protection and assistance to victims of human trafficking in many countries is anchored in migration law and dependent on whether or not a residence permit is granted to the victim. Apart from some limited exceptions, cooperation with law enforcement authorities in criminal investigations is a condition for the granting of a residence permit to victims of trafficking. Given the fact that many victims are national victims (for instance in the Netherlands around 25%) or in the context of the EU are EU citizens and do not need a residence permit, this link with migration law excludes them from the special programmes for trafficking victims. Moreover, many victims do not want to go to the police or do not consider themselves victims of trafficking or are unaware of the protection and assistance facilities available, which further limits the range of such programmes. This triggers the question whether or not the current protection and assistance provided to victims of trafficking matches the needs of these victims. Based on empirical research in the Netherlands, this chapter aims to answer this question
