A vida e a obra de Toninho Pinheiro: um pilar da bateria brasileira
No full textO objectivo desta dissertação foi o de analisar o contributo e estudar o legado do baterista Toninho Pinheiro (1937-2004) na bateria brasileira e na Música Popular Brasileira. Foram realizadas entrevistas aos seus familiares, a músicos que tocaram com ele e a bateristas seus contemporâneos ou não. Foi também efectuado um estudo interpretativo bem como transcrições de importantes faixas gravadas por Toninho Pinheiro ao longo da sua trajectória profissional.
Os resultados indicaram que o contributo de Toninho Pinheiro foi fundamental para a música popular brasileira. O legado do baterista para a história da bateria brasileira ficou também bastante evidente.The aim of this dissertation was to analyze the contribution and to study the legacy of the drummer Toninho Pinheiro (1937-2004) in Brazilian drums language and in Brazilian Popular Music. Interviews were conducted with family members, with musicians who played with him and with drummers who were or weren’t his contemporaries. An interpretative study was also carried out as well as transcriptions of important tracks recorded by Toninho Pinheiro throughout his professional career.
The results indicated that the contribution of Toninho Pinheiro was of central importance to Brazilian Popular Music. The drummer’s legacy for the history of Brazilian drums was also quite evident

Com base em provas documentais, algumas das quais inéditas, é-nos apresentado o longo e riquíssimo percurso artístico de Pinheiro, são recordados aspetos marcantes da sua vida pessoal, sublinhado o seu empenho na luta associativa em defesa da classe teatral, tudo isto inserido num contexto social e profissional que nos permite avaliar a relação de Pinheiro com os seus pares bem como o seu posicionamento relativamente às tendências estéticas da época. Competências múltiplas, espírito versátil e trabalho afincado fizeram com que a sua presença no teatro fosse além da representação, tendo desempenhado as funções de diretor de cena, ensaiador, marcador de peças e «metteur-en-place». Ainda ligado à atividade teatral, foi professor do Conservatório, onde deu a sua última aula aos 70 anos. CONSERVATION TREATMENTS OF AZULEJO: MATERIALS FOR VOLUMETRIC REINTEGRATION
No full textMany conservation interventions have to consider the filling-gaps operation to remake missing parts of original material and this is still an active topic of debate since it raises technical, aesthetical and ethical issues.
A wide variety of materials have been used as fillers, usually in an empirical way, without much knowledge of their characteristics, compatibility and reversibility or even durability issues when applied to glazed ceramic tile (azulejo).
In order to improve conservation actions it is necessary to understand the existing solutions to choose those that adapt best to the azulejo substrate and try to develop better formulations to fill the missing parts, either from the glaze or the ceramic body.
To achieve better results in the future it would therefore be important to know the different solutions adopted in the past and evaluate the performance of these treatments through time. The compilation of information proved to be a difficult task either because the reports had not been done or else were not retrievable. Some considerations about the advantages and disadvantages of these materials and their application for volumetric reintegration will be made

Differential stability of 2'F-ANA*RNA and ANA*RNA hybrid duplexes: roles of structure, pseudohydrogen bonding, hydration, ion uptake and flexibility
No full text14 pags., 7 figs., 3 tabs.Hybrids of RNA with arabinonucleic acids 2′F-ANA and ANA have very similar structures but strikingly different thermal stabilities. We now present a thorough study combining NMR and other biophysical methods together with state-of-the-art theoretical calculations on a fully modified 10-mer hybrid duplex. Comparison between the solution structure of 2′F-ANA•RNA and ANA•RNA hybrids indicates that the increased binding affinity of 2′F-ANA is related to several subtle differences, most importantly a favorable pseudohydrogen bond (2′F-purine H8) which contrasts with unfavorable 2′-OH-nucleobase steric interactions in the case of ANA. While both 2′F-ANA and ANA strands maintained conformations in the southern/eastern sugar pucker range, the 2′F-ANA strand's structure was more compatible with the A-like structure of a hybrid duplex. No dramatic differences are found in terms of relative hydration for the two hybrids, but the ANA•RNA duplex showed lower uptake of counterions than its 2′F-ANA•RNA counterpart. Finally, while the two hybrid duplexes are of similar rigidities, 2′F-ANA single strands may be more suitably preorganized for duplex formation. Thus the dramatically increased stability of 2′F-ANA•RNA and ANA•RNA duplexes is caused by differencesin at least four areas, of which structure and pseudohydrogen bonding are the most important. © The Author(s) 2010.
