Tra sistema e testo. Percorsi di grammatica valenziale con apprendenti sinofoni in contesto LS
The subject of the article is Dependency Grammar (DG) as a tool of didactics of Italian as FL for Chinese speaking learners. We will obviously refer to the model developed by Francesco Sabatini for the didactics of Italian grammar started by Tesnière. The analysis was carried out on texts by learners attending a syntax course at Sichuan International Studies University (SISU) in Chongqing, China, held by the author in 201 5. In the first part (§§ 1 -2.4) the subject is treated inside a reasoning upon the principal aspects of the relationship between language and theory and teaching of the language. This part will devote attention to the intricate relationship between system of language and texts. The second part (§§ 3-3.5) will focus on the comparison between conceptual and didactic tools of DG and socio-cognitive and cultural characteristics of Chinese-speaking learners. In the last section of the third part (§§ 4-5.1 ) a revision of the acquisition sequences of dependency documented in literature is proposed, a revision suggested by the analysis of the written productions of the learners throughout their whole educational path
Immersive teaching for migrants and for all
The article describes the teaching model of ItaStra and its fundamental characteristics: the active role of the learner as the creator of democratic citizenship and attention to repertoire dynamics. The contents of the model are developed through four analytically-described theoretical and sectoral guidelines which call into question the linguistic variation that is internal and external to the learner, the (neo) skills, the multidisciplinarity, the learning contexts. The contents of the model are the result of the experiences and of the theoretical re-elaborations that have been developed in fifteen years of activity in the field of inclusive teaching. The article also takes into account these interconnections
Legiones y Falanges: prensa populista y literatura
Addressing people in order to enforce their power is a common feature of different political parties and governments, regardless of whether they are right wing or left wing, and, in this process, the press plays a crucial role. In this context, the bilingual publication Legioni e Falangi. Rivista d’Italia e di Spagna/Legiones y Falanges. Revista mensual de Italia y de España (1940–43) is a paradigmatic example. Some of the most important intellectuals of the time, including Azorín, Manuel Machado and Gerardo Diego, wrote in this magazine, facing historical reality of Fascism and Francoism and generating unexpected results.
Regarding the relationship between cultural products, identity, and ideology, Cultural Studies and their specific branches, such as Media Studies, have extensively demonstrated how the role of media communication is intrinsically tied to hegemonic systems that regulate cultural processes and the production of consent. This work situates itself within the broader, transdisciplinary debate on how the shared European experience of authoritarianism has influenced the construction of identity and historical memory, with particular emphasis on narratives and representations of women.
Specifically, the study examines the extent to which the journalist and writer Orio Vergani adhered to the regime's prescriptions concerning the perception of the female figure. Using a holistic methodological approach rooted in Raymond Williams’s concept of the cultural triad, the analysis of Vergani’s narrative articles avoids preconceived categorizations that would interpret his writing as an unequivocal celebration of fascist ideology. Instead, it seeks to uncover potential fractures and spaces of dissent embedded within his works
Maximizing the stability radius of a set of systems under real-time scheduling constraints
We address the problem of synthesising real-time embedded controllers taking into account constraints deriving from the implementation platform. Assuming a time-triggered model of computation for tasks controlling a set of independent systems and a real-time preemptive scheduling policy managing a single CPU processor board, we deal with two problems: 1- deciding whether a performance specification can be met on a given platform, 2- optimising performance on a platform. Decision variables of the design problems are the activation periods of the tasks , while the considered performance metric is the minimum stability radius attained over the different feedback loops, which is related to the technological feasibility of the controller and to the robustness of the controlled systems. The analytical formulation of the design problems enables efficient numerical solutions. The resulting control policies are directly implementable without performance degradation that may otherwise arise due to scheduling and execution delays
A New Feature Selection Methodology for K-mers Representation of DNA Sequences
DNAsequence decomposition into k-mers and their frequency counting, defines a mapping of a sequence into a numerical space by a numerical feature vector of fixed length. This simple process allows to compare sequences in an alignment free way, using common similarities and distance functions on the numerical codomain of the mapping. The most common used decomposition uses all the substrings of a fixed length k making the codomain of exponential dimension. This obviously can affect the time complexity of the similarity computation, and in general of the machine learning algorithm used for the purpose of sequence analysis. Moreover, the presence of possible noisy features can also affect the classification
accuracy. In this paper we propose a feature selection method able to select the most informative k-mers associated to a set of DNA sequences. Such selection is based on the Motif Independent Measure (MIM), an unbiased quantitative measure for DNA sequence specificity that we have recently introduced in the literature. Results computed on public
datasets show the effectiveness of the proposed feature selection metho
Application of (lamellar) keratoplasty and limbal stem cell transplantation for corneal clouding in the mucopolysaccharidoses - a review
Corneal clouding or opacification is a prominent feature of mucopolysaccharidosis (MPS), particularly in MPS I and VI. In patients with marked corneal clouding and visual impairment, penetrating keratoplasty may be considered to improve the patient's vision, functional capacity and quality of life. In MPS, glycosaminoglycans mainly accumulate in the corneal stroma and not in Descemet's membrane or the endothelium, therefore deep anterior lamellar keratoplasty (DALK) may be preferred in these patients over penetrating keratoplasty. Although there are only limited data on the use of DALK in MPS (I and VI) patients, the results are generally favourable. Nonetheless, when deciding on whether to perform keratoplasty in patients with MPS, the risk of general anaesthesia due to potential concomitant cardio-pulmonary problems and cervical spine instability, the potential presence of other ocular manifestations that also impair vision (e.g. glaucoma, retinal degeneration and optic atrophy) and/or complications such as allograft rejection and the risk of re-opacification of the graft, all need to be taken into consideration. Limbal stem cell transplantation, which can be combined with keratoplasty, also holds potential promise in the treatment of these complex cases. A review of the indications, local and systemic risks, techniques of lamellar and penetrating keratoplasty, and the potential of limbal stem cell transplantation is provided in the context of corneal opacity in MPS
Exploring transfer learning for improving ultrasonic guided wave-based damage localization
Designing maintenance strategies to reduce the failure risk of plated structures is paramount for increasing the safety level of aerospace, civil and mechanical systems. Although traditional time-scheduled maintenance policies are reliable, they come with costly operations and avoidable downtimes. Recently, more complex condition-based strategies have been studied in the literature. This class of maintenance actions rely on structural health monitoring (SHM) frameworks: a sensor network is installed on the structure diagnostic data are processed to monitor the health state of the structure. The high dimensionality of data and the limitations of model-based SHM algorithms have led researchers to investigate data-driven solutions for improving the reliability of condition-based strategies. So far, supervised machine learning strategies have mainly been considered. However, since the cost of generating labeled datasets usually turns out to be prohibitive, two alternative solutions have gained attention: unsupervised methods and transfer learning (TL). While the former approach has been proved to provide satisfactory damage detection performance, it requires external knowledge sources to also localize and quantify damage. Instead, transfer learning could be used for performing all the damage diagnosis tasks, without the need for coupling the data-driven method with complex algorithms to restore the information lost by using smaller datasets for training. TL allows adapting pre-trained ML tools to new situations, new tasks and new environments. Moreover, TL can be leveraged when few labeled data are available, or to adapt efficient tools that have already been trained on a slightly different task. In this work, TL and convolutional neural networks (CNNs) were leveraged for performing damage localization in composite plated structures. That is, domain adaptation and fine-tuning were used to make an in-house CNN-based framework for localizing structural damage flexible enough to work in different domains
