    En el presente trabajo se expone la elaboración de un sistema de información cuyo objetivo es permitir al personal de un restaurante llevar el registro y control de los pedidos realizados dentro del mismo, además de ofrecer a los clientes una forma cómoda y rápida para ordenar sus alimentos. Todo esto con ayuda de tecnologías inalámbricas como NFC (Near Field Communication) y WiFi además del uso de dispositivos móviles. Con esto se busca acortar tiempos de espera, evitar el error humano al anotar pedidos y calcular cuentas, posibilitar un sistema de pago móvil seguro, así como ofrecer un servicio moderno y de calidad a los clientes

    Microstructure informed tractography with anatomical priors

    It is known from brain anatomy that axons in the white matter are structured and organized in groups, called fascicles or bundles. Historically, these white matter structures have been studied in detail using invasive techniques, such as dissection, with the aim to elucidate their organization and possible effects of neurological diseases on brain connectivity. With the advent of magnetic resonance imaging, which is a noninvasive acquisition modality, today it is possible to perform "virtual dissections" using tractography. In fact, this technique allows estimating in vivo the macroscopic trajectory of these fascicles using 3D polylines called streamlines, and this unique ability opened a number of exciting possibilities to study the anatomy of the brain noninvasively and to characterize alteration in its structure due to pathology. However, tractography is not perfect and some limitations have recently been pointed out in many studies and received a lot of attention in the scientific community. One of the major problems is the high number of invalid white matter structures reconstructed, i.e., false-positive connections between cortical and subcortical regions, which were shown to potentially bias the characterization of brain connectivity. The main objective of this thesis is to investigate and propose new strategies to improve the anatomical accuracy of tractography. In particular, we extended a microstructure informed tractography framework by introducing the important anatomical prior that axons are organized in groups and using this information as a constraint to reduce ambiguities in the reconstructions. We tested different solutions and showed that it is possible to improve the specificity of connectivity estimates without affecting their sensitivity, both in numerical simulations and real brain data. We implemented a pipeline using a supervised tractography segmentation tool to extract bundles and evaluate the performance of our proposals using in vivo data. In the first proposal, we introduced the possibility of using the definition of groups of streamlines as a constraint in the optimization problem, which produces a big improvement in the connectivity generated with the reconstructions. Later in the second strategy, we extended the framework to use as a constraint a multilevel hierarchical organization of streamlines, which is able to reproduce the connectivity results removing implausible streamlines that are inside the groups that create the connections. Finally, we proposed a robust augmentation to the cost function of the framework that adjusts for the reliability of the original measurements. With the research performed in this thesis, we proved that adding information on the organization of the white matter benefits reconstructions made with tractography. Our proposals represent an additional step forward to improve the anatomical accuracy of tractography and our understanding of how different brain regions are interconnected

    TimeAwareBPMN-js: An editor and temporal verification tool for Time-Aware BPMN processes

    This paper presents TimeAwareBPMN-js, a graphical web-based editor for time-aware BPMN (Business Process Model and Notation) models that allows (1) creating and editing of BPMN processes enriched with temporal constraints, such as contingent durations and conditions, and (2) verifying that such constraints are well-defined and satisfy some (temporal) properties. The verification of temporal constraints is realized by plug-ins that can be easily added by the user thanks to the modular architecture of the application. Different plug-ins may verify different temporal properties. As a proof- of-concept, TimeAwareBPMN-js contains the CSTNU plug-in which verifies the dynamic controllability property, i.e., it checks, at design-time, whether there exists a run-time schedule for the process that satisfies all temporal constraints no matter how contingent durations and conditions are revealed during execution

    Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis

    The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed.     “Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship

    Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis

    We provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature.     Estructura 3D de péptidos con potencial actividad Leishmanicida

    Resumen: En este trabajo se sintetizaron 7 péptidos llamados DM 1.1, DM 1.2, DM 1.3, DM 1.4 DM 1.5, DM 1.6 y DM1.7 análogos de DM 1 (ALWKTMLKKLGTMAL). DM 1 es un derivado de la dermaseptina S1 (ALWKTMLKKLGTMALHAGKAALGAAADTISQGTQ), a la cual se le ha encontrado actividad antiparasitaria. Los péptidos sintetizados fueron evaluados con-tra bacterias E. Coli (gram -), S. Aureus (gram +) y contra parásitos de L. Panamensis, encontrándose actividad biológica contra estos agentes patógenos cuando son tratados in vitro con DM 1.4 y DM 1.6. Haciendo uso de la espectroscopia RMN se pudieron determinar las conformaciones y la estructura 3D de los péptidos DM 1.4 y DM 1.6, quienes fueron los de la mayor actividad biológica, encontrando que para DM 1.4 la estructura del péptido es de tipo α-hélice entre los aminoácidos W2 y W12; y para el DM 1.6 esta conformación se da entre W6 y L15Abstract: In this work 7 peptides called DM 1.1, DM 1.2, DM 1.3, DM 1.4, DM 1.5, DM 1.6 and DM1.7 were synthesized. The peptides are analogues of DM1 (ALWKTMLKKLGTMAL). The latter is a derivative of dermaseptin S1 (ALWKTMLKKLGTMALHAGKAAL-GAAADTISQGTQ), a larger peptide with antiparasitic activity. The peptides were synthe-sized and evaluated against E. Coli (gram -) and S. Aureus (gram +) bacteria and, L. Panamensis parasites. It was found that DM 1.4 and DM 1.6 display in vitro biological activity against these pathogens. The 3D structures of the DM 1.4 and DM 1.6 peptides, those ones with the largest biolog-ical activity, were solved using NMR spectroscopy. It was found that DM 1.4 forms an α-helix between amino acids W2 and W12, while DM 1.6 forms an alpha-helix between W6 and L15Maestrí

    Dispelling the Myths Behind First-author Citation Counts

    We conducted a full-scale evaluative citation analysis study of scholars in the XML research field to explore just how different from each other author rankings resulting from different citation counting methods actually are, and to demonstrate the capability of emerging data and tools on the Web in supporting more realistic citation counting methods. Our results contest some common arguments for the continued use of first-author citation counts in the evaluation of scholars, such as high correlations between author rankings by first-author citation counts and other citation counting methods, and high costs of using more realistic citation counting methods that are not well-supported by the ISI databases. It is argued that increasingly available digital full text research papers make it possible for citation analysis studies to go beyond what the ISI databases have directly supported and to employ more sophisticated methods
