On exclusive h→Vl+l− decays
We study a set of exclusive decay modes of the Standard Model Higgs boson into a vector meson and a dilepton pair: h→Vl+l−, with V=Υ,J/ψ,φ, and l=μ,τ, determining the decay rates, the dilepton mass spectra and the V longitudinal helicity fraction distributions. In the same framework, we analyze the exclusive modes into neutrino pairs View the MathML source. We also discuss the implications of the recent CMS and ATLAS results for the lepton flavor-changing process h→τ+μ− on the h→Vτ+μ− decay mode
QCD result for the hyperfine splitting M-Gamma(1S) - M-eta b and the value of alpha(s)
The measurement of the eta(b) mass, together with a QCD result for the hyperfine splitting E-HFS = M-Gamma(1S) - M-eta b, allows us to determine the strong coupling constant alpha(s) at a low energy scale. The result alpha(s)(M-Gamma(1S)) = 0.197 +/- 0.002 vertical bar(Delta EHFSexp) +/- 0.002 vertical bar(scheme) +/- 0.002 vertical bar delta +/- 0.006 vertical bar(delta mb) +/- 0.005 vertical bar(ho), alpha(s)(M-Z0) = 0.124 +/- 0.001 vertical bar(Delta EHFSexp) +/- 0.001 vertical bar(scheme) +/- 0.001 vertical bar(delta ) +/- 0.003 vertical bar(delta mb) +/- 0.002 vertical bar(ho) is compatible with the current world average of alpha(s) reported by the Particle Data Group, and shows that the experimental lowest-lying (b) over barb hyperfine splitting can be reproduced in terms of a perturbative and nonperturbative QCD contribution
QCD at Work 2012, Internationla Workshop in QCD, Lecce 18-21 giugno 2012
The sixth edition of QCD@Work, International Workshop on QCD, theoretical and experimental, will be held in Lecce (Italy), from 18th to 21st June 2012. The aim is to bring together theorists and experimentalists putting QCD to work in a variety of different arenas for a common discussion.
This edition of the workshop is jointly organized by the Physics Departments of Lecce and Bari Universities, and by Istituto Nazionale di Fisica Nucleare (INFN) with its Sections of Lecce and Bari. It will be held in the conference hall of the Rettorato of Università del Salento, in the ancient Monastero dei Carmelitani (Piazzetta Tancredi n.7)
LE MASCHERE E I NEMICI DELLE APPARENZE. JEAN STAROBINSKI INTERPRETE DEL TOTALITARISMO
This paper analyses the motives and the contents of the research carried out
by Jean Starobinski in the Forties on the theme of mask and simulation. After reconstructing
the historical context and the theoretical intention of Starobinski’s essay Interrogatoire du
masque (1946, republished 2015), the author examines the definition of the mask as an
essential element of interaction between nature and culture. He then discusses the interpretation
of modern culture as a project of demystification of appearances and search for true reality
beyond the masks. Finally, the author shows that the investigation of problems of simulation
and dissimulation is linked to the desire to understand the reasons for the success of totalitarianism.
According to Starobinski, in the Twentieth century dictatorial regimes have used the
rhetoric of authenticity to credit the mythical images of a human existence and a social order
finally free of any simulation, or any artifice of appearances
