Revisitando a pequena sociologia eleitoral de Antônio Flávio Pierucci (1985-1992)
The article revisits the production of Antônio Flávio Pierucci on the electoral behavior of voters in São Paulo for Jânio Quadros and Paulo Maluf in the period between 1985 and 1992. Besides revealing a little-remembered facet of the author, the text aims to highlight the object of study, the methodology used by the author and his political conclusions. It will also touch on how Pierucci used the sociology of Pierre Bourdieu to unveil the way of life of a conservative stratum of the São Paulo population. Taking into account that reality is ever-changing, the text aims to underline the importance of this body of research, as a reference for future endeavors.O artigo revisita a produção de Antônio Flávio Pierucci sobre o comportamento eleitoral dos eleitores paulistanos de Jânio Quadros e Paulo Maluf no período compreendido entre 1985 e 1992.
LCA evaluation methodology for multiple life cycles impact assessment of building materials and components
This paper presents a methodological analysis of the issues related to the sustainable performance design of materials and building components, through the adoption of Life Cycle Assessment evaluations. In particular, the research explores which attributes, typical of the building process, are competing in balancing the sustainable use of resources, the energy efficiency goals, the reduction of waste/emissions and the reversibility of the interventions, during multiple and diversified life cycles and proposes a survey for the achievement of synthetic indicators that could guide the various stakeholders in the secto
Lateral Habenula contribution in Nicotine addiction : focus on Dopamine, GABA and Serotonin Interactions
Compelling evidence has shown a pivotal role of dopaminergic function in drug addiction. Recently, the Habenula (Hb) has attracted a great deal of attention as another target for nicotine in the brain because of its role in regulating dopamine (DA), gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA) and serotonin (5-HT) systems. Nicotine acts binding to acetylcholine receptors that are widely distributed in the brain. Interestingly, the receptor subtypes that mediate nicotine withdrawal responses are highly expressed in the Hb. Moreover, the block of habenular nicotinic receptors in animals chronically treated with nicotine enhances withdrawal responses once nicotine is discontinued. Furthermore, it has been shown how a high dose of nicotine can cause massive degeneration almost exclusively in the medial habenula (MHb) and its output tract, the fasciculus retroflexus. Thus, symptoms associated with nicotine withdrawal may be caused by dysfunctions of the Hb output. Therefore, Hb might be of fundamental importance in the expression of nicotine reinforcing properties and withdrawal. Here, we will focus on the role of the lateral habenula (LHb) on nicotine modulation of DA function and we will evaluate LHb interaction with the rostromedial tegmental nucleus (RMTg), a GABAergic area, and the serotonergic raphé nuclei. Furthermore, as LHb has high density expression of 5-HT2C receptors, these subtypes might be important in the control of its neuronal activity and output to the midbrain monoaminergic and GABAergic systems.peer-reviewe

Study of the bread baking process - II. Mathematical modelling
A mathematical model of baking was set up and validated experimentally. The model describes heat and mass transport phenomena during baking of a cylindrical bread sample. The model was solved by finite difference numerical method. The model is based on the hypothesis described in a previous work (Zanoni, B., Peri, C. & Pierucci, S. (1993). J. Food Eng., 19, 383-98), that the variation in temperature and moisture of bread during baking is determined by the formation of an evaporation front at 100°C. The progressive advancing of the evaporation front towards the inside of the product determines different conditions of heat and mass transport in a crust and crumb portion. The validation shows that the model correctly simulates heat and mass transfer during baking. © 1994

A generalised program for fuel cell systems simulation
A computer program simulating the performance of a fuel cell system has been developed for the analysis of small-scale power plants and uotomotive technologies. FC2000 (Fuel Cells 2000) is based on a Sequential Modular Approach, is coded in Fortran and is user-interfaced by a preprocessor written in Visual Basic. All the system is compatible with a Window environment. Models describing fuel cell equipments were either home developed or acquired from already existing codes desdcribed in literature (Pierucci et alt., 1985), while the preprocessor was specifically created for this application. FC2000 has been succesfully applied to the study and design of transportation technologies and power-plant stationary systems. The paper will describe FC2000 structure, will provide the content of specific fuel cell models and finally will discuss the results of a typical design where an innovative solution is proposed to increase process efficiencies. © 2002 Elsevier B.V. Água mole, pedra dura: modernidade e fundamentalismo segundo Pierucci
This paper is part of a great purpose to pay homage to Antônio Flávio Pierucci (1945-2012) and presents as its main objective, among so many possible directions in dialogue with the living author’s work, a discussion on fundamentalism as privileged category for the comprehension of history, since the second half of 19th century, especially in the West. Searching for the historical and semantic accuracy, the original fundamentalist movement is presented as byproduct of a disenchanted and secularized modernity, according to Weber’s theoretical legacy examined by Pierucci along his theoretical work (also a legacy). In the title of a paper for the general public, Pierucci states: “Creationism is fundamentalism” (in order to agree with one of Pierucci’s favorite authors, Macaco Simão: “clearer,it’s impossible!”).Este artigo está inserido num escopo maior de homenagem a Antônio Flávio Pierucci e apresenta como objetivo principal, dentre tantas direções possíveis em diálogo com a pulsante obra do autor, uma discussão acerca do fundamentalismo como categoria privilegiada para a compreensão da História desde a segunda metade do século XIX, notadamente no Ocidente.
