    No full text
This article presents the results of two surveys on professional representation of Internet in a corpus of secondary school teachers who use it. It is based on social and professional thinking models which are linking ideological process, representations, attitudes and practices. The first study has been obtained from a corpus of 299 teachers with an on-line questionnaire. It underlines differences of representation, attitudes and declared practices between subjects who have a utopian reading of Internet consequences and subjects who have a counter-utopian one. The second one shows the importance of teachers’ professional culture on the professionalisation of this object. Central elements of this representation are basically different if this object is evocated in a personal or a professional context. Ratinaud Pierre. UMA EVIDÊNCIA EXPERIMENTAL DO CONCEITO DE REPRESENTAÇÃO PROFISSIONAL ATRAVÉS DO ESTUDO DA REPRESENTAÇÃO DO GRUPO IDEAL

    Get PDF

Advantages of the Social Representations Theory and further directions

    No full text
International audienceIn this chapter, a number of advantages of the Social Representations Theory are illustrated. An argument is proposed that the theory is a comprehensive approach to help understand why people think and act the way they do in relation to disabilities. The theories of stigma and of attitudes provide us with valuable insights, but they are both circumscribed by important limitations. The theory of stigma is overshadowed by its focus on the negative aspect in the stigmatization itself. The individualistic approach and issues with causal relationships between attitude and human behavior seen in attitude research is an issue for the theory of attitudes. The Social Representations Theory does not contain such limitations. In addition, some aspects important for the future directions of research based in and around Social Representations Theory are outlined. For example, the need to include a power aspect is noted. The new media landscape and ethnic mobility are discussed. Although the theory is a very helpful tool for understanding representations of disabilities, the need for further research of the topic using the theory and for sharpening the theory is mentioned. The authors of this text hope that this book will assist in guiding others to use the theory for application in research of disabilities

    Cross-cultural research and social representations

    No full text
International audienceIn this chapter cross-cultural research is introduced and related to disability, hearing loss, and social representations. Studies are presented to illustrate the different topics. The chapter contains both theoretical and methodological aspects of cross-cultural research. Important qualities related to cross-cultural research, such as language, translation, and ethics are also discussed. We argue that there are overlapping areas of interest between cross-cultural researchers and researchers using the Social Representations Theory, and that the use of the Social Representations Theory is a fruitful approach when it comes to studying how different cultures perceive and think about health conditions and disabilities, not least, hearing loss

Introduction to the Social Representations Theory

International audienceIn the late 19th century, Émile Durkheim, a renowned French sociologist crafted theories of solidarity and collective conscience, consciousness, or representation. Collective representations signify a shared consciousness or state of thought among members of groups that are very similar, a sense of solidarity of thought. Analyses of the Durkheim concept of collective representations at a social groups level has given rise to a fruitful field of research. From this, the first formulation of the Social Representations Theory by Moscovici (1961) was proposed more than 50 years ago. Social representations are knowledge socially generated and shared whose function is to define the environment of groups and to guide their practices and communication in these environments. The objective of this chapter is to present the main research orientations that emerge in this field, distinguishing four approaches (Moliner & Guimelli, 2015): (1) the sociogenetic model; (2) the sociodynamic model; (3) the structural model; and (4) the dialogical model

International audienceElena Ferrante is the pen name of a writer highly successful on the international stage, whose real identity has been kept secret by her publishers, E/O, for more than 25 years. For some time now, her fame and mystery have combined to atract the attention ofreaders, fans, critics, journalists, and academics all over the world, and various hypotheses have already been advanced as to who the hand behind this nom de plume mightbe. Elena Ferrante’s work in general, and the question of her anonymity in particular, have been the object of only a limited number of scientifc publications, however. Starting from a corpus of 150 novels by 40 different authors selected specifcally for thisresearch project, and from the results of previous qualitative and quantitative studies, this contribution contextualizes Elena Ferrante’s work on the panorama of contemporary Italian literature. It also provides further elements to support the hypothesis that, based on what we know now, Domenico Starnone is the writer with the greatest afnity in style and content with the novels signed by Elena Ferrante. The present articlealso explains why our Italian research group shared our data and preliminary resultswith international experts on textual data analysis, authorship atribution, and profling, who worked independently on the same data and added their own contribution tothis case study
