No full textRecenzuojamas publikuotas lenkų mokslininko Zenono Piecho habilitacinis darbas, skirtas monetų, antspaudų, herbų ir monogramų vietos Jogailaičių valdžios simbolių sistemoje analizei. Knygą sudaro 5 skyriai, kurių pirmajame aptariami valdžios simboliai kaip istorijos tyrimų problema ir apžvelgiama šaltinių bazė. Antras skyrius skirtas valdovų antspaudų ikonografijai, jame tiriami Lenkijos karalių antspaudai nuo Jogailos iki Onos Jogailaitės, po to - Lietuvos didžiųjų kunigaikščių antspaudai nuo Jogailos iki Žygimanto Augusto. Trečiajame skyriuje nagrinėjama monetų ikonografija. Ketvirtajame nagrinėjama heraldika: Jogailaičių erelis, vytis, dvigubas kryžius, stulpai, taip pat žemių, priklausiusių tiek Lenkijos karalystei, tiek Lietuvos Didžiajai Kunigaikštystei herbai. Paskutiniame skyriuje, kaip valdžios simbolių sudėtinė dalis, aptariamos valdovų monogramos. Studija parašyta argumentuotai, panaudojant gausius ir įvairiapusius šaltinius. Darbas išsiskiria tuo, kad ypač dažnai operuojama lietuviška medžiaga, neretai paimta iš naujausių mūsų istorikų ir menotyrininkų darbų. Recenzentas aptaria knygos privalumus, originalius apibendrinimus, nurodo ir kai kuriuos trūkumus. Darbas vertinamas kaip kapitalinė, daugeliu atvejų puikiai argumentuota studija, kuri ilgam išliks parankine knyga tiek Lenkijos, tiek Lietuvos insigniologijos, heraldikos, sfragistikos, numizmatikos bei kitų kultūros ir istorijos mokslo šakų tyrinėtojams. The book consists of 5 sections, the first of which discusses the symbols of power as the problems of historic research and reviews the sources. The second section is dedicated to the iconography of the rulers' seals. It analyses the seals of Polish kings from Jagiełło to Anna Jagiellon, then the seals of the Grand Dukes from Jagiełło to Sigismund Augustus. The third section analyses the iconography of coins. The fourth section analyses armoury: the Jagiellonian eagle, the knight, the double cross, the pillars, as well as the herbs of the lands belonging to the Kingdom of Poland and the Grand Duchy of Lithuania. The last section discussed monograms as the integral part of signs of power. The study is well-grounded. It uses vast and versatile sources. The work is exceptional for its frequent references to the Lithuanian material from the latest works by our historians and art critics. The reviewer discusses the advantages and disadvantages of the book, original generalisations, and points to certain drawbacks. The work is assessed as a substantial and perfectly grounded study, which will long serve as a source for researchers of Poland and Polish insignology, heralde, sfragistics, numismatics and other branches of sciences of culture and history

No full textWładysław Semkowicz (1878–1949) was the most eminent Polish researcher in the auxiliary sciences of history and the author of the textbook Encyklopedia nauk pomocniczych historii (Encyclopedia of the Auxiliary Sciences of History), defining the Polish canon of these disciplines. He organised systematic research, especially into the genealogy of medieval knightly families in Poland and Lithuania, historical geography, the Historical Atlas of Poland, diplomatics, palaeography and modern source editing. He educated numerous researchers in the auxiliary history sciences and made the Department and the Office of the Auxiliary Sciences of History at the Jagiellonian University a research centre.Władysław Semkowicz (1878–1949) był najwybitniejszym polskim badaczem nauk pomocniczych historii, autorem skryptu-podręcznika Encyklopedia nauk pomocniczych historii, określającym polski kanon tych dyscyplin. Cyprian Norwid to the Polish literary life is slightly overestimated. At the turn of the 19th and
the 20th centuries on the Polish lands, the reception of French symbolism took place, which
determined the perception of the author of Vade-mecum working in Paris (since 1849) as
a great precursor of intellectual “visual poetry”. However, by making Norwid a strictly
Romantic poet, the generation of the Young Poland artists effectively distanced themselves
from artistic borrowings associated with Baudelaire, Verlaine, etc., thus obtaining the effect
of the “nativeness” of modern Polish poetry at that time.
