No full textLa “seconda navigazione filosofica”, “varata” dalla «Scuola di Macerata», propone un viaggio lungo i molteplici crinali della parola “straniero”.
Assumendo come “baricentro identitario” la cultura greca di età arcaica e classica, questa traversata indaga i molti significati e le varie ricadute etiche, politiche e ideologiche dei vocaboli utilizzati per indicare lo straniero, studiandoli nel loro intreccio con le grandi vicende storiche, dalle Guerre Persiane alle riforme democratiche nell’Atene di Pericle. Due sono le tappe principali di questa esplorazione: la prima si focalizza sulle diverse declinazioni del βάρβαρος, cioè dello “straniero non greco”; la seconda, invece, si concentra sulle parole che gravitano intorno allo ξένος, cioè allo “straniero greco”, soggetto perturbante per eccellenza, perché indica, allo stesso tempo, l’ospite, l’amico e il nemico.
Questo percorso semantico e concettuale mostra tutta l’attualità e l’urgenza di tornare a riflettere sulle parole e a riscoprirne l’importanza come primo passo per promuovere una efficace trasformazione del mondo in cui viviamo, sempre più pervaso da un pericoloso “inabissamento del valore della parola”

No full textThe paper aims to reflect on the Multifocal Approach, taken as a hermeneutic paradigm useful in studies concerning classical philosophy. The text is divided into three parts. The first one discusses the conceptual meaning of the "optical" value of this interpretative proposal, which, in the research on ancient Greek thought, is a kind of "perspective reversal". The second, instead, examines some aspect of the Multifocal Approach as an exegetical key to complexity, but always respecting the limits of the humn being. The third, finally, shows the theoretical scope of interdisciplinarity, because it represents one of the distinctive features of the multifocal method, that is also founded on constructive dialogue between different disciplines and open to critical comparison with other interpretative keys. The contribution, therefore, concludes by outling some possible lines of study for future developments of the Multifocal Approach as a "paradigm in fieri"

No full textAre all the barbarians slaves by nature according to Aristotle? This contribution intends to answer this question, in the awareness that the theme of natural slavery is one of the most complex and tormented in Aristotelian philosophy. Through the analysis of some significant passages of the Politics, the article aims to show that for Aristotle natural slavery is not linked to ethnic categories, but to ethics one, therefore it does not necessarily and exclusively concern the barbarians. For this reason, the paper argues that Aristotelian thought seems to deviate, in a critical key, from the dominant ideology in the Greece of its time
Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
Get PDFThe present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed
Variations on the Author
Get PDF“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship
