No full textCon “Tauben im Gras” (1951) Wolfgang Koeppen ci offre un romanzo della grande città nella letteratura tedesca del dopoguerra che è anche una riflessione sul tempo da cui scaturisce una particolare configurazione della temporalità narrativa stessa. Il dopoguerra, nel quale i tedeschi vivono nella rimozione del passato nazista, tra restaurazione e modernità e in un’ambigua continuità con il nazionalsocialismo, è visto da Koeppen come un’epoca ancora – o di nuovo – di guerra, in cui il tempo è solo un breve lasso di tempo, «una pausa del respiro sul campo di battaglia». In un’«epoca di svolta», in un’«epoca del destino», non ci sono più ritmi sociali stabili, niente è definitivo e tutto rimane in sospeso. Se la vita ha perso il ritmo della scansione temporale definita, si hanno allora forme di temporalità paradossale, laddove al tempo atomizzato manca un qualsiasi ritmo ordinatore. Il presente stesso è il luogo della dispersione, dell’essere fuori di sé, e il passato è in un certo senso contemporaneo al presente, come contemporaneità di tempi diversi che non sono tenuti insieme da un ordine temporale universale. Con le forme del montage, della discontinuità e della pluridimensionalità il romanzo mette così in atto diverse temporalizzazioni, variazioni e choc improvvisi che sono anche una critica della storia in quanto sottoposta alla dinamica chiusa della cronologia e della continuità, aprendo una vertigine temporale che mostra come al di sotto di una superficie in apparente rapido cambiamento agiscano forme di alterazione, stasi, disintegrazione e dissoluzione del tempo e della storia

No full textChapter 7 examines the impact that Newman’s theory of development had upon Perrone and others in Rome. This influence was displayed in a public lecture that Perrone gave in Rome, when he proposed Newman’s thought as an answer to perceived threats facing the Church. The chapter explores traces of the Essay on Development in Perrone’s 1847 book on the Immaculate Conception, and later in Perrone’s 1854 book on Protestantism and the rule of faith. The chapter examines the impact that Perrone’s thought had in Rome and throughout the Church during this time, and in deliberations leading up to the bull Ineffabilis, which promulgated the decree of the Immaculate Conception in 1854. The evidence shows how Newman’s theory had an important impact upon the Roman Catholic Church, affecting the language that the Church came to use in referring to doctrinal change in history.</p

No full textPerformance Analysis of a Noncontact Plastic Fiber Optical Fiber Displacement Sensor with Compensation of Target Reflectivity
No full textAn inexpensive fiber-based noncontact distance sensor specific for monitoring short-range displacements in micromachining applications is presented. To keep the overall costs low, the sensor uses plastic optical fibers and an intensiometric approach based on the received light intensity after the reflection from the target whose displacement has to be measured. A suitable target reflectivity compensation technique is implemented to mitigate the effects due to target surface nonuniformity or ageing.The performances of the sensor are first evaluated for different fiber configurations and target reflectivity profiles and positions using a numerical method based on Monte Carlo simulations. Then, experimental validations on a configuration designed to work up to 1.5mm have been conducted. The results have confirmed the validity of the proposed sensor architecture, which demonstrated excellent compensation capabilities, with errors below 0.04mm in the (0-1)mm range regardless the color and misalignment of the target
