Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
Get PDFThe present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed
Variations on the Author
Get PDF“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship
Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis
Get PDFWe provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature. A Study on the Phonology of Raoping Hakka in Zhuolan ,Taiwan
No full text本文旨在探討卓蘭饒平客語的音韻現象，主要以共時音韻、歷時音韻的角度觀察聲母、韻母及聲調的表現。在共時音韻方面，除了展示今日卓蘭饒平聲、韻、調的概況外，也探討了音節的結構與限制；在歷時音韻方面，分別以中古三十六字母及十六韻攝為參考架構，分析探討聲韻中古架構與今日聲韻母之關係，同時也是本文主要的研究成果。
正文各章具體研究成果如下：
第二章主要為共時音韻系統的描述，分為聲母、韻母、聲調及音節結構四個部分。聲母包括零聲母在內共有十八個；韻母部分，主要元音有六、介音為 i和 u、元音韻尾為 i 和 u，輔音韻尾-m、-n、-ŋ、-p、-t、-k 俱全，再加上兩個成音節鼻音韻 m、ŋ，共有57個韻母。鼻化韻的例字數量少且分佈零散，暫不納入韻母系統當中。單字調有六：11、53、42、55、2、5，陰平調值特低，為饒平客語共有之特色。變調只發生在前字，其變調行為與構詞無關，一致由左至右進行變調。音節結構不脫一般客語之同化、異化限制，唯聲母與介音、主要元音結合之緊密，以及Z系聲母其後只接 i 或 e，較為特殊。
第三章主要探討聲母與聲調的歷史音韻。聲母表現大致與三十六字母之架構相符，也有例外之處，如「輕重脣不分」、「端知不分」、「群匣不分」…等，應是中古之前的聲母格局反映。此外，「書母、禪母少數讀為 f」是饒平客語的特色，古全濁聲母清化送氣」、「癸菊譜」今讀為送氣都有客家內部的一致性。聲調方面，大致上以聲母的清濁為決定聲調歸屬的主要因素，「次濁上、全濁上歸陰平」、「次濁平聲歸陰平」、「次濁入聲分陰入、陽入」、「次濁去歸陰去」都是客語內部的共同表現。少數親屬稱謂、地名、動物名稱則有較特殊的聲調表現。
第四章主要以十六攝為架構，依次探討該攝內的韻母表現，並對韻母的相對層次、來源提出個人的看法。山攝三四等讀 en、et，是卓蘭饒平獨有之特色，我們經由：音節結構、三等元音表現、四等元音表現、影母字洪音化、見系二等讀 en/et、咸攝四等「跌」字讀 et、南投國姓海陸部分山攝三四等讀 en、et，等現象進行探討，認為山攝三四等讀 en、et是經 ian、iat＞ ien、iet ＞ en、et 變化的結果，基本形式應為 ian 與 iat，且細音介音失落與閩南漳州腔有關，與「四等元音為 e」無涉。The aim of this thesis is to probe into the phonology of Raoping Hakka in Zhuolan, a township in Miaoli County, Taiwan. This study depicts the representation of finals, consonants, and intonation in two aspects, both synchronically and diachronically.
The description of phonology system today, includes initial, finals of a syllable and tone, and also provides the phonological distribution table and syllable structure constraint.
In historicl phonology system, the most notable feature is “en、et”in Shanshe (山攝). According to the appearance of finals in all sideng(四等), finals in erdeng(二等) and sandeng(三等) of Shanshe (山攝), as well as the phenomenon like finals of “(die跌)”, syllable structure constraint, initial of ying (影母) in Shanshe (山攝), I argue that the original form of “en、et”should be “ian、iat”.
Since the law “ian、iat＞ ien、iet ＞ en、et”had already occurred in Raoping Hakka of Zhuolan . And we can also discover the same pattern“en、et” in Shanshe(山攝) of Hailu(海陸) Hakka in Guoxing county(國姓) . I therefore believe that “ien、iet ＞ en、et” of Raoping Hakka is a result effected by Zhangzhou(漳州) tone of Taiwanese Southern Min, without a causal relation of sideng vowel ” e” .第一章 序論 1

Dispelling the Myths Behind First-author Citation Counts
Get PDFWe conducted a full-scale evaluative citation analysis study of scholars in the XML research field to explore just how different from each other author rankings resulting from different citation counting methods actually are, and to demonstrate the capability of emerging data and tools on the Web in supporting more realistic citation counting methods. Our results contest some common arguments for the continued
use of first-author citation counts in the evaluation of scholars, such as high correlations between author rankings by first-author citation counts and other citation
counting methods, and high costs of using more realistic citation counting methods that are not well-supported by the ISI databases. It is argued that increasingly available digital full text research papers make it possible for citation analysis studies to go beyond what the ISI databases have directly supported and to employ more

Note that the objective for the hut study was to evaluate the IRS treatment applications for residual efficacy against Anopheles mosquitoes, including the local An. coluzzii mosquito population. Cows were only used to attract mosquitoes into the huts and no tests were carried out directly on the cows. The author checklist is intended for use with studies where experiments are carried out on animals, which is why we have had such difficulty in completing this for the hut study, as many of the questions do not relate to how the cows were used
