CERD is a database of engineers from the Chinese Republican period (1912–1949). The digital analysis of historical registers has led to a prosopographic catalogue of persons, educational institutions, and companies. The data can be put in relation to one another by researchers to answer individual research questions.

No full textDieses Buch führt in die Chinastudien ein und richtet sich an Studierende, die noch kein wissenschaftliches oder fachspezifisches Vorwissen besitzen, sowie an Außenstehende, die einen Zugang zur Chinaforschung gewinnen möchten. Die Sinologie greift auf die Methoden und Arbeitsweisen einer Vielzahl von Disziplinen zurück: Politik- und Wirtschaftswissenschaften, Ethnologie und Soziologie, Religionswissenschaften, Geschichts- und Sprachwissenschaften sind hierfür nur einige Beispiele. Sinologische Lehrstühle sind dagegen meist auf ausgewählte Disziplinen spezialisiert und vermitteln vorwiegend die Modelle und Methode der ihnen naheliegenden Expertisen. Für eine erste Orientierung gibt das Buch Einblicke in Forschungsfelder und Arbeitsweise von 14 Disziplinen, die häufig für die Chinastudien herangezogen werden. Ausgewählte Themen und Beispiele stellen eine mögliche Anwendung innerhalb der Chinaforschung vor. Kurzdefinitionen von Schlüsselbegriffen, Literaturhinweise, Transferaufgaben zur Übung und ein Anhang mit Leitfäden für das wissenschaftliche Arbeiten helfen den Studierenden bei ihrem Einstieg in die Chinastudien. Das Buch ist damit sowohl für die Studierenden als auch als eine didaktische Grundlage für Dozierende geeignet
Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
Get PDFThe present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed
