The effect of phone application supported nutrition education on weight loss
İnternet bazlı uygulamalar ulaşılabilirlik ve geniş erişim imkanı sebebiyle ağırlık kaybı programlarında bireyler için potansiyel destekleyicilerdir. Bu uygulamalarla bireylerin yaşam tarzı değişikliği hedef alınmaktadır. Bu tez çalışması; telefon uygulaması destekli beslenme eğitiminin standart eğitime göre ağırlık kaybına etkisini değerlendirmeyi amaçlayan randomize kontrollü bir çalışmadır. Telefon uygulamasının kişilerin diyete uyumunu ve motivasyonu artıracağı varsayılmıştır. Kişilerin antropometrik ölçümleri ile beslenme özellikleri, Vücut Ağırlığı Öz Yeterlilik Yaşam Tarzı (WEL test), Yaşam Kalitesi Ölçeği SF-36, Rosenberg Benlik Saygısı, Obezlere Özgü Yaşam Kalitesi Ölçeği (OÖYKÖ), Sağlıklı Yaşam Biçimi Davranışları Ölçeği-II (SYBDÖ) ve Sağlıklı Yeme İndeksi (SYİ) puan düzeylerindeki değişimler ara değişkenler olarak sorgulanmıştır. Mart-Eylül 2018 tarihleri arasında Ege Üniversitesi Tıp Fakültesi Hastanesi Endokrin ve Metabolizma Hastalıkları Polikliniği'nde diyetisyene başvurarak rutin beslenme eğitimi alan, BKİ'si 25 ve üzeri olan, 18-64 yaş arası 79 birey çalışmaya alınmıştır. İlk görüşmede tüm bireyler veri toplama formu doldurulmuş ve araştırmacı tarafından tüm bireylerin antropometrik ölçümleri yapılmıştır. Tüm bireyler poliklinik diyetisyeni tarafından toplu olarak klasik beslenme eğitimi aldıktan sonra kişisel zayıflama diyetleri yazılmıştır. Sonrasında ise kontrol grubuna sadece 3 ay sonrası için kontrol randevusu verilmiştir. Olgu grubuna ise araştırmacı tarafından çalışma için tasarlanmış Motive isimli telefon uygulaması üzerinden 3 ay boyunca metin, görsel ve videolar ile eğitim verilmiş ve ilk görüşmeden 3 ay sonrasına kontrol randevusu verilmiştir. İlk testte olgu grubuna 39, kontrol grubuna ile 40 kişi alınmıştır. Olgu grubundan 20, kontrol grubundan ise 18 kişi son teste kadar çalışmayı tamamlamıştır. Bu nedenle çözümleme 38 kişi üzerinden yapılmıştır. Olgu grubunun ağırlık, BKİ ve beden yağ oranı ortalaması sırasıyla 91.4±18.0 kg, 33.8±6.0 kg/m2, % 39.5±5.2 iken son testte sırasıyla 88.5±17.1 kg, 32.8±5.8 kg/m2, % 39.3±6.0'ya düşmüştür (sırasıyla p=0.001, 0.001, 0.489). Kontrol grubunun ağırlık, BKİ ve beden yağ oranı ortalaması sırasıyla 89.4±24.7 kg, 33.3±5.0 kg/m2, % 39.1±4.6 iken son testte 86.4±16.9 kg, 32.2±4.7 kg/m2, % 38.7±4.9'a düşmüştür (sırasıyla p= 0.006, 0.006, 0.556). Olgu grubunun bel ve boyun çevresi sırasıyla 108.2±15.1, 37.3±3.5 cm iken son testte sırasıyla 106.1±15.1 cm, 36.4±3.3 cm'e düşmüştür (sırasıyla p=0.029, 0.001). Kontrol grubunun ise bel ve boyun çevresi sırasıyla 108.3±12.7, 38.3±4.1 cm iken son testte 105.5±12.4 cm, 37.5±4.3 cm'e düşmüştür (sırasıyla p=0.060, 0.028). Rosenberg Benlik Saygısı Ölçeği sonucuna göre sadece olgu grubunda benlik saygısında anlamlı artış saptanmıştır (p=0.035). SYBDÖ ana ölçeği ve SYBDÖ alt ölçeklerinden beslenme puanı ve stres yönetimi puanı, SYİ ve Yaşam Kalitesi SF-36 alt ölçeğinin ruh sağlığı puanında ilk teste göre sadece olgu grubunda anlamlı bir artış saptanmıştır (sırasıyla p=0.021, 0.001, 0.036, 0.007, 0.048). OÖYKÖ ve WEL testte her 2 grupta da anlamlı bir fark saptanamamıştır (p>0.050). Bu çalışmadan elde edilen sonuçlara göre hafif şişman ve şişman bireylerde telefon uygulaması destekli beslenme eğitiminin antropometrik ölçüm, benlik saygısı, sağlıklı yaşam biçimi davranışları, yaşam kalitesi ve sağlıklı yeme alışkanlıklarında olumlu gelişmeler sağlayabileceği düşünülmektedir.Internet-based applications are potential supporters for individuals in weight loss programs due to their accessibility and wide access. These applications are aimed at changing the lifestyle of individuals. This study is a randomized controlled study aiming to evaluate the effect of phone application supported nutrition education on weight loss according to standard education. It has been assumed that the telephone application would increase the adaptation and motivation of the people on diet. Anthropometric measurements and nutritional features of individuals, Weight Efficacy Lifestyle (WEL test), Quality of Life SF-36, Rosenberg Self-Esteem, Obese Individuals Specific Quality of Life, Healthy Life Style Behaviour Scale-II and Healthy Eating Index score changes questioned as intermediate variables. Between March and September 2018, 79 people aged between 18-64 years, whose BMI was 25 and more, who were admitted to the dietitian at Ege University Faculty of Medicine Hospital Endocrine and Metabolic Diseases Clinic and received routine nutrition education were included in the study. In the first interview, the data collection form of all individuals was filled out and anthropometric measurements of all individuals were made by the researcher. All individuals received a classic nutrition education by the clinical dietitian and then written personal weight loss diets. Afterwards, only a control appointment for 3 months later was given to the control group. Phone application named Motive designed by the researcher uploaded to only case group's phone. With the telephone application text, visual and video notifications were sent to case group for 3 months. In the first test, 39 subjects were included in the case group and 40 in the control group. Twenty subjects from the case group and 18 from the control group participated in the final test. Therefore, the analysis was made on 38 people.In the final test mean weight, BMI and body fat ratio of the case group respectively decreased from 91.4±18.0 kg, 33.8±6.0 kg/m2, % 39.5±5.2 to 88.5±17.1 kg, 32.8±5.8 kg/m2, % 39.3±6.0 (respectively p=0.001, 0.001, 0.489). In the control group mean weight, BMI and body fat ratio respectively decreased from 89.4±24.7 kg, 33.3±5.0 kg/m2, % 39.1±4.6 to 86.4±16.9 kg, 32.2±4.7 kg/m2, % 38.7±4.9 (respectively p= 0.006, 0.006, 0.556). Waist and neck circumference of case group respectively decreased from 108.2±15.1, 37.3±3.5 cm to 106.1±15.1 cm, 36.4±3.3 cm (respectively p=0.029, 0.001). Waist and neck circumference of control group respectively decreased from 108.3±12.7, 38.3±4.1 cm to 105.5±12.4 cm, 37.5±4.3 cm (respectively p=0.060, 0.028). According to the results of the Rosenberg Self-Esteem Scale, there was a significant increase in self-esteem in the case group (p = 0.035). Healthy Life Style Behaviour Scale score and it's subscales nutrition and stress management scores, Healthy Eating Index and Quality of Life SF-36's subscale mental health score increased significantly only in case group (respectively p=0.021, 0.001, 0.036, 0.007, 0.048). There was no significant difference in the WEL test and Obese Individuals Specific Quality of Life scores for both groups (p>0.050). According to the results obtained from this study, it is thought that nutrition education supported by phone application in overweight and obese individuals may provide positive effects in anthropometric measurement, self-esteem, healthy lifestyle behaviors, quality of life and healthy eating habits
Effect of coffee and tea consumption on individuals with type 2 diabetes and insulin resistance
Diabetes Mellitus dünyada artarak yaygınlaşan ve ciddi bir halk sağlığı sorunu haline gelen kronik bir hastalıktır. Yeme ve içme alışkanlıkları hastalığı etkiler. Çay ve kahve tüm dünyada yaygın olarak tüketilen içeceklerin başında gelmektedir. Yapılan çalışmalarda çay ve kahvenin tip 2 diyabetli bireylerde glikoz kullanımını ve metabolizmasını pozitif yönde etkileyebildiği saptanmıştır. Çalışma Aralık 2015 - Aralık 2016 tarihleri arasında Ege Üniversitesi Endokrinoloji ve Metabolizma Hastalıkları Polikliniği'ne gelen 18-65 yaş arası tip 2 diyabetik ve insülin direnci olan bireyler üzerinde yapılmıştır. Kahve ve çay tüketiminin tip 2 diyabet ve insülin direnci olan bireylerde antropometrik ve biyokimyasal değerleri ile ilişkisini saptamak hedef alınmıştır. Bireylerin sosyodemografik, sağlık, diyabet, fiziksel aktivite, beslenme ve sıvı tüketimiyle ilgili bilgileri ile biyokimyasal ve antropometrik ölçümleri alınmıştır. Araştırma grubunun (n=300) yaş ortalaması 45.0 ± 12.1 yıldır. Bireylerin %82.7'si kadın, %33.4'ü üniversite mezunu, %48.7'si çalışmıyor, %80.4'ü evlidir ve %77.0'si sigara kullanmamaktadır. Bireylerin %54.0'ü tip 2 diyabetli iken, tüm grubun %65.0'ı oral antidiyabetik, %14.3'ü bazal insülin, %15.6'sı ise multipl enjektabl tedavi kullanmaktadır. Bireylerin %99.7'si ağır egzersiz, %93.7'si orta düzeyde egzersiz, %29.7'si her seferinde 10 dakikadan uzun yürüyüş yapmamaktadır. %72.3'ü daha önce tıbbi beslenme tedavisi almıştır. Alan kişilerden %62.7'si listeyi uygulamamaktadır. Bireylerin %63.7'si günde 3 ana öğün ve %35.3'ü ise 2 ana öğün yapmaktadır ve %83.3'ü ara öğünde meyve tüketmekte, %6.3'ü ise ana öğünde ayak üstü yemek tercih etmektedir. Bireylerin %56.0'sı öğün atlamakta, %43.0'ü öğle öğününü atlamaktadır. Bireylerin %48.3'ü türk kahvesini, %73.0'ü çayı şekersiz tüketmektedir. Bireylerin %15.3'ü granül kahveyi şekerli tüketmektedir. BKİ ortalaması (n=300) 33.6±5.4 kg/m2 olarak saptanmıştır. Bel çevresi ortalaması (n=299) 108.6±10.7 cm'dir. Yağ oranı ortalaması (n=287) %39.1±7.7 olarak saptanmıştır. Biyokimyasal ortalamalara bakıldığında HbA1c (n=274) %6.3±1.5, total kolesterol (n=252) 207.7±42.5 mg/dL, trigliserit (n=253) 166.8±197.7 mg/dL, HDL kolesterol (n=249) 50.1±13.5 mg/dL, LDL kolesterol (n=247) 126.1±34.3 mg/dL olarak saptanmıştır. Diyastolik kan basıncı (n=288) 80.3±9.6 mmHg, sistolik kan basıncı (n=288) 123.7±16.0 mmHg olarak saptanmıştır. Bireyler günlük ortalama 187.5±170.7 mL (n=70) yeşil çay, 564.7±438.9 mL (n=288) siyah çay, 53.0+47.5 mL (n=240) türk kahvesi, 206.5±217.1 mL (n=115) granül kahve tüketmektedir. Bu çalışma, kesitsel bir çalışma olup tip 2 diyabet ve insülin direnci olan bireylerde günlük ≥800 mL siyah çay tüketenlerde <800 mL siyah çay tüketenlere göre vücut yağ oranının normal olma durumu anlamlı olarak yüksek saptanmıştır (p<0.05). Kahve ve çayın etkisini saptamak amacıyla beslenme ve egzersizin de dahil edildiği randomize kontrollü çalışmalara ihtiyaç vardır.Diabetes Mellitus is a chronic disease that is becoming increasingly common throughout the world and becomes a serious public health problem. Eating and drinking habits affects the disease. Tea and coffee are among the most commonly consumed beverages in the world. Studies have shown that tea and coffee can affect glucose utilization and metabolism positively in individuals with type 2 diabetes. The study was performed on individuals with type 2 diabetes and insulin resistance between the ages of 18-65 who came from Ege University Endocrinology and Metabolism Diseases Policlinic between December 2015 and December 2016. It was aimed to determine the relationship between consumption of coffee and tea with anthropometric and biochemical values in individuals with type 2 diabetes and insulin resistance. Biochemical and anthropometric measurements of sociodemographic, health, diabetes, physical activity, nutrition and fluid consumption were taken by individuals. The mean age of the study group (n = 300) was 45.0 ± 12.1 years. 82.7% of the individuals are women, 33.4% are university graduates, 48.7% are not working, 80.4% are married and 77.0% are not using cigarettes. While 54.0% of the individuals had type 2 diabetes, 65.0% of the whole group used oral antidiabetic, 14.3% of basal insulin and 15.6% of them were using multiple injections. 99.7% of the individuals had heavy exercise, 93.7% had moderate exercise, and 29.7% did not walk more than 10 minutes each time.72.3% had previously received medical nutrition therapy. 62.7% of the subjects did not apply the list. 63.7% of the individuals make 3 main meals per day and 35.3% make 2 main meals, 83.3% consume fruit during the break, and 6.3% prefer to eat fast-food in the main meal. 56.0% of the respondents are skipping meals and 43.0% are skipping lunch. 48.3% of the individuals consume Turkish coffee and 73.0% consume tea without sugar. 15.3% of the individuals consume granulated coffee sugary. The mean BMI (n = 300) was 33.6 ± 5.4 kg / m2. The average waist circumference (n = 299) was 108.6 ± 10.7 cm. The mean fat ratio (n = 287) was 39.1 ± 7.7%. HbA1c (n = 274) was 6.3 ± 1.5, total cholesterol (n = 252) was 207.7 ± 42.5 mg / dL, triglyceride (n = 253) was 166.8 ± 197.7 mg / dL and HDL cholesterol 13.5 mg / dL, LDL cholesterol (n = 247) was determined as 126.1 ± 34.3 mg / dL.Diastolic blood pressure (n = 288) was 80.3 ± 9.6 mmHg, systolic blood pressure (n = 288) was 123.7 ± 16.0 mmHg. Individuals consume a daily average of 187.55 ± 170.79 mL (n = 70) green tea, 564.73 ± 438.95 mL (n = 288) black tea, 53.06 + 47.55 mL (n = 240) Turkish coffee, 206.58 ± 217.12 (n=115) granulated coffee. This study is a cross-sectional study in which subjects who had type 2 diabetes and insulin resistance had a significantly higher body fat ratio than those who consumed ≥800 mL of black tea per day (p <0.05). Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Variations on the Author
“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship
Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis
We provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature. Dispelling the Myths Behind First-author Citation Counts
We conducted a full-scale evaluative citation analysis study of scholars in the XML research field to explore just how different from each other author rankings resulting from different citation counting methods actually are, and to demonstrate the capability of emerging data and tools on the Web in supporting more realistic citation counting methods. Our results contest some common arguments for the continued
use of first-author citation counts in the evaluation of scholars, such as high correlations between author rankings by first-author citation counts and other citation
counting methods, and high costs of using more realistic citation counting methods that are not well-supported by the ISI databases. We have done our best to complete the author checklist relating to the use of animals in the hut study. Note that the objective for the hut study was to evaluate the IRS treatment applications for residual efficacy against Anopheles mosquitoes, including the local An. coluzzii mosquito population. Cows were only used to attract mosquitoes into the huts and no tests were carried out directly on the cows. The author checklist is intended for use with studies where experiments are carried out on animals, which is why we have had such difficulty in completing this for the hut study, as many of the questions do not relate to how the cows were used
