Sediment resuspension and nepheloid layers induced by long internal solitary waves shoaling orthogonally on uniform slopes
Author Posting. © The Author(s), 2013. This is the author's version of the work. It is posted here by permission of Elsevier for personal use, not for redistribution. The definitive version was published in Continental Shelf Research 72 (2014): 21-33, doi:10.1016/j.csr.2013.10.019.Two-dimensional, nonlinear and nonhydrostatic field-scale numerical simulations are used to examine the resuspension, dispersal
and transport of mud-like sediment caused by the shoaling and breaking of long internal solitary waves on uniform slopes. The
patterns of erosion and transport are both examined, in a series of test cases with varying conditions. Shoreward sediment movement
is mainly within boluses, while seaward movement is within intermediate nepheloid layers. Several relationships between properties
of the suspended sediment and control parameters are determined such as the horizontal extent of the nehpeloid layers, the total
mass of resuspended sediment and the point of maximum bed erosion. The numerical results provide a plausible explanation for
acoustic backscatter patterns observed during and after the shoaling of internal solitary wavetrains in a natural coastal environment.
The results may further help interpret sedimentary structures that may have been shaped by internal waves and add an another
e ective mechanism for o shore dispersal of muddy sediments. This research was funded by the Natural Sciences

Bug fixes
Invoking lazy_indexing twice in row (or more) using the same indexes (using dask) is now fixed. (GH/1048, PR/1049).
Filtering out the nans before choosing the first and last values as fill_value in _interp_on_quantiles_1D. (GH/1056, PR/1057).
Translations from virtual indicator modules do not override those of the base indicators anymore. (GH/1053, PR/1058).
Fix mmday unit definition (factor 1000 error). (GH/1061, PR/1063).
New features and enhancements
xclim.sdba.measures.rmse and xclim.sdba.measures.mae now use numpy instead of sklearn. This improves their performances when using dask. (PR/1051).
Argument append_ends added to sdba.unpack_moving_yearly_window (PR/1059).
Internal changes
Ipython was unpinned as version 8.2 fixed the previous issue. (GH/1005, PR/1064)
Computing gas-particle flows in airways with an Eulerian model
Gas-particle flows in airways are modelled using an Eulerian approach for the particle volume fraction and velocity field. We present theoretical arguments in favor of Eulerian models for airways gas-particle flows. Simulations are done using a Finite Element Method. Result are presented on a 2-D prototype of the airways going from the mouth-nose region down to the first generation bronchi. A detailed time-history of the particle distribution can be recovered with our Eulerian model. The Eulerian method offers great potential for the simulation of gas-particle flows over several inspiration/expiration cycles
During the last twenty years, many feminists have turned to the writings of political theorist Hannah Arendt in order to think an ethics of care that would be truly emancipatory and democratic. The author seeks to show in her article why this recourse to Hannah Arendt is problematic, by discussing two major contributions made by the ethics of care to contemporary political thought : first, a re-articulation of various debates in terms of needs (rather than rights) and second, a radical transformation of the concept of « voice ». In the conclusion, the author also reflects on one of the challenges that feminists of care face today : namely, thinking the institutionalisation of care.

This article reviews, on the basis of observation made between 1994 and 2004 during eight reforms in developing countries, a series of ten factors which significantly have affected the success of the projects of reforms. The success of a reform, according to the author, counts on factors of conscience of the needs, investment, communication, anchoring, leadership, respect of the calendar, coordination, integration, administrative equality between department and training. In conclusion, the author tries to identify four situations where the implementation of a reform is compromised.Reform, public sector, developing countries, Africa, factor of success
