Il contesto è quello dell'approccio fenomenologico allo studio della realtà sociale e del ruolo dell'immagine nel processo di conoscenza, così come nella vita quotidiana. Dopo una prima riflessione sul significato del vedere come processo mentale di selezione, riconoscimento, categorizzazione, significazione e interpretazione e sulle differenze fra il linguaggio verbale e quello visuale, il contributo analizza la tecnica della foto-stimolo (e della produzione soggettiva di immagine) servendosi di numerosi esempi di ricerca sul campo

No full textLe riflessioni presentate in questo contributo nascono da una domanda: che cosa comporta per i sociologi svolgere il loro lavoro teorico ed empirico in una società dove l’immagine è diventata sempre più pervasiva ed è diventata il canale privilegiato della comunicazione? Per rispondere a tale domanda si prendono in considerazione tre aspetti del tema “sociologia e società dell’immagine”, tra loro interconnessi. Si considera dapprima il concetto di società dell’immagine, dal punto di vista delle implicazioni sociali (del potere) della visualizzazione e di quelle della visibilità. Successivamente ci si focalizza sui soggetti, e in particolare sull’importanza di approfondire ed analizzare ciò che essi fanno con le immagini. Infine si affronta il problema relativo all’incremento conoscitivo che lo studio delle immagini e della comunicazione per immagini è in grado di apportare alle scienze sociali. In sede conclusiva si formula un'ipotesi definitoria della sociologia visuale, intendendola come un approccio conoscitivo quando usa le immagini nel processo di raccolta delle informazioni. L’intervista con foto-stimolo, la produzione soggettiva di immagini e la ricerca video-fotografica sul campo rappresentano gli esempi più consolidati di tale approccio, che possiamo usare nell’ambito di diverse discipline sociologiche (la sociologia del territorio, del lavoro, dei consumi, delle comunicazioni, della salute, della devianza, e così via). Ma quando l’oggetto della ricerca è “quello che fa la gente con le immagini”, che significa come le immagini vengono usate per negoziare e scambiare i significati, per affermare appartenenze ed esclusioni, per costruire le identità nel passato, nel presente e nel futuro, per dare un senso al quotidiano e per comunicare con gli altri, allora la sociologia visuale è una disciplina autonoma, che ha come oggetto la comunicazione e l’uso dell’immagine nella vita quotidiana
Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis

counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed
On application of nonlinear k-ε models for internal combustion engine flows
No full textThe linear k-ε model, in its different formulations, still remains the most widely used turbulence model for the solutions of internal combustion engine (ICE) flows thanks to the use of only two scale-determining transport variables and the simple constitutive relation. This paper discusses the application of nonlinear k-ε turbulence models for internal combustion engine flows. Motivations to nonlinear eddy viscosity models use arise from the consideration that such models combine the simplicity of linear eddy-viscosity models with the predictive properties of second moment closure. In this research the nonlinear k-ε models developed by Speziale in quadratic expansion, and Craft et al. in cubic expansion, have been applied to a practical tumble flow. Comparisons between calculated and measured mean velocity components and turbulence intensity were performed for simple flow structure case. The effects of quadratic and cubic formulations on numerical predictions were investigated too, with particular emphasis on anisotropy and influence of streamline curvature on Reynolds stresses

Full text link“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship
Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis
Full text linkWe provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature.
