Riflesso nel tempo. Note sul senso della storia nell’opera di Giulio Paolini

    No full text

    No full text

Il Sergente by Marco Paolini as a theatre adaptation of a novel by Mario Rigoni Stern This paper is an analysis of a monodrama by Paolini, Il Sergente, which is an adaptation of a novel by Mario Rigoni Stern published in 1953. Comparing a fragment of the novel with a fragment of the monodrama text, and on the basis of other source materials for example the film about Paolini’s interview with Rigoni Stern, we can prove that the adaptation was a synthesis of the author of the novel’s original message. This synthesis is partly characterised by detaching the main character’s personal experience from the historical context of World War II, in this case the Italian Fascist attack on the Soviet Union. In this way Paolini transformed entire paragraphs of the novel into “winged words” carrying a global moral message against the war and against the use of violence as a solution to conflicts.Il Sergente by Marco Paolini as a theatre adaptation of a novel by Mario Rigoni Stern This paper is an analysis of a monodrama by Paolini, Il Sergente, which is an adaptation of a novel by Mario Rigoni Stern published in 1953. Numerical irreducibility criteria for handlebody links

    No full text
In the paper we introduce new criteria for a handlebody link to be irreducible. These criteria are numerical and can be computed by a code. They are able to detect the irreducibility of all handlebody knots in the Ishii-Kishimoto-Moriuchi-Suzuki knot table and most handlebody links in the link table produced by G. Paolini and the authors. We also prove the existence of irreducible handlebody links of any given type

Constrained BV functions on covering spaces for minimal networks and Plateau's type problems

    No full text
We link covering spaces with the theory of functions of bounded variation, in order to study minimal networks in the plane and Plateau's problem without fixing a priori the topology of solutions. We solve the minimization problem in the class of (possibly vector-valued) BV functions defined on a covering space of the complement of an (n -2)-dimensional compact embedded Lipschitz manifold S without boundary. This approach has several similarities with Brakke's "soap films" covering construction. The main novelty of our method stands in the presence of a suitable constraint on the fibers, which couples together the covering sheets. In the case of networks, the constraint is defined using a suitable subset of transpositions of m elements, m being the number of points of S. The model avoids all issues concerning the presence of the boundary S, which is automatically attained. The constraint is lifted in a natural way to Sobolev spaces, allowing also an approach based on Γ-convergence

    Psicoterapia delle disfunzioni sessuali.

    No full text

Perceived as a safer alternative to conventional cigarettes, e-cigs are aggressively marketed as lifestyle-choice consumables, thanks to few restrictions and a lack of regulatory guidelines. Despite the burgeoning worldwide consumption of e-cigs, their safety remains largely unproven and it is unknown whether these devices cause in vivo toxicological effects that could contribute to cancer. Here we illustrate the contribute of EPR radical probe technique in a study where it was possible to demonstrate the co-mutagenic and cancer-initiating effects of e-cig vapour in a rat lung model. It was found that e-cig have a powerful booster effect on phase-I carcinogen-bioactivating enzymes, and increase oxygen free radical production and DNA oxidation. We are able to indirectly evaluate the content of reactive oxygen species (ROS) in lungs tissues of exposed rats, by using an appropriate hydroxylamine that in the presence of transient radical species gives rise to a persistent nitroxide radical. (see Scheme 1) Scheme 1 We found a significant increase of radical species production in samples of lungs tissues from exposed rats compared to samples from non-exposed animals. Some results on surface measures in Calculus of Variations

    No full text
We study some relations between the concepts of perimeter, Hausdorff measure, and Minkowsky content, when Rn is endowed with a convex Finsler metric depending in a continuous way on the position. We show some connections with the theory of Gamma-convergence and with the anisotropic motion of a smooth hypersurface by mean curvature
