Advances in sample preparation methods for pesticide residue analysis in medicinal plants: A focus on Nepal
Medicinal plant safety is a rising challenge worldwide due to the continued overuse of pesticides to their maximum residue limits. Due to the high demand for medicinal plants, their production is being increased and sometimes protected by pesticide use. The analysis of these residues requires robust analytical methods to ensure the safety and quality of medicinal plants. Developing effective sample preparation for detecting pesticides is challenging, due to their diverse natures, classes, and physico-chemical characteristics. Hence, existing techniques and strategies are needed to improve the reliability of the results. The review discusses the current state of sample preparation techniques, analytical methods, and instrumental technologies employed in pesticide residue analysis in medicinal plants. It highlights the challenges, limitations, and advancements in the field, providing insights into the analytical strategies used to detect and quantify pesticide residues. Reliable, accessible, affordable, and high-resolution analytical procedures are essential to ensure that pesticide levels in medicinal plants are effectively regulated. By understanding the complexities of pesticide residue analysis in medicinal plants, this review article aims to support the conservation of medicinal plant resources, promote public health, and contribute to the development of sustainable strategies for ensuring the safety and quality of medicinal plants in Nepal. Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed
H-tailored surface conductivity in narrow band gap In(AsN)
We show that the n-type conductivity of the narrow band gap In(AsN) alloy can be increased within a thin (similar to 100 nm) channel below the surface by the controlled incorporation of H-atoms. This channel has a large electron sheet density of similar to 10(18) m(-2) and a high electron mobility (mu > 0.1 m(2)V(-1)s(-1) at low and room temperature). For a fixed dose of impinging H-atoms, its width decreases with the increase in concentration of N-atoms that act as H-traps thus forming N-H donor complexes near the surface. (C) 2015 Author(s). 'Speaking valve' aspiration in a laryngectomy patient
The article describes the case of a 73-year-old laryngectomy patient who aspirated his speaking valve through his stoma. The patient has a history of primary tracheo-oesophageal puncture and neck dissection. Adequate oxygen delivery through an anatomically abnormal, shared airway past an obstruction is said to be related to the main anaesthetic problems in the case report. The learning curve for endonasal surgery of the cranial base: a systematic approach to training
Proper training in endoscopic endonasal surgery of the cranial base is essential to avoid unnecessary morbidity and mortality. An incremental program for the training of skull base surgeons is described that accounts for complex skull base anatomy, technical difficulty, potential risk of neural and vascular injury, extent of intradural dissection, and type of pathology. There are multiple pathways for training in endoscopic skull base surgery. The most important feature of a training program is the building of team surgical skills.Carl H. Variação da temperatura corporal de caprinos e ovinos sem-lã em Sobral.
Resumo: Foi conduzido um experimento em Sobral, CE, regiào semi-arida do Nordeste do Brasil, visando medir a temperatura corporal pela manhà (7: 00 h) e à tarde (14: 00 h), em animais de diferentes raças de ovinos sem-lã e caprinos, depois de terem permanecido expostos à radiaçào solar sob condiçoes simuladas de pastejo. Em geral, nào houve diferença entre as espécies ovina e caprina. No entanto, diferenças significativas (P < 0,05) foram observadas entre as raças estudadas quando as médias das temperaturas corporais foram calculadas separadamente, de manhã e à tarde. A maxima elevaçào na temperatura retal foi observada às 14:00 h, em caprinos da raça Canindé e ovinos da raça Santa Inês, enquanto um aumento relativamente menor foi exibido pelos caprinos das raças Bhuj e Anglo-Nubiana e pelos ovinos da raça Morada Nova. Uma menor elevação na temperatura retal é considerada como índi? de melhor adaptabilidade. A variação periódica das médias da temperatura corporal tomada às 14:00 h, em geral, foi estreitamente associada às flutuações ocorridas na temperatura ambiente no período da tarde. Abstract: This experirnent was conducted on breeds of goats and woolless sheep in the tropical northeast Brazil to measure their body temperaturas in the morning (at 7:00A.M.) and in the afternoon (at 2:00 P.M.) after exposure to direct solar radiation under simulated conditions of normal grazing. in general there were no marked differences between species of slieep and goats. Significant differences (P <0.05) were observed between breeds when body temperatures were averaged separately for mornIng and afternoon. The maximum vise in body temperatura at 2:00 P.M. was observed in Canindé goats and Santa Inés sheep and relatively minor increases were observed in Bhuj and Anglo-Nubian goats and Morada Nova slieep; minor increases were considered as indicas of bester adaptability. The construction of Karen Karnak: The multi-author-function
This thesis is situated within the comparatively recent developments of Web 2.0 and the emergence of interactive WikiMedia, and explores the mode of authorship within a Read/Write culture compared to that of a Read/Only tradition. The hypothesis of this study is that the role of the audience has become merged with the author, and as such, represents new functions and attributes, distinct from a more conventional concept of authorship, in which the roles of audience and author are more separate. Read/Write and participatory culture, as defined by this study, is focused on collaboration, and includes the influences of D.I.Y. culture, Open-Source practices and the production of text by multiple authors. Multi-authorship presents a re-thinking of several concepts which support the notion of the individual author, since the focus of multi-authorship is not on attribution and ownership of a finished text, but on the continued malleability of a text. Modes of multi-authorship, demonstrated in the use of the pseudonyms Alan Smithee and Karen Eliot, represent declarative authors whose names signify multiple origins, whilst concurrently indicating a distinct body of work. The function of these names form an important context to this study, since primary research involves the construction of an experimental mode of multi-authorship utilising WikiMedia technology and the interaction of thirty nine participants, who are invited to create a body of work under the collective pseudonym Karen Karnak. The data generated by this experiment is analysed using aspects of Michel Foucault's author-function to identify and determine power structures inherent in the WikiMedia context. The interplay of power structures, including concepts such as identity, ownership and the body of work, affect the resulting mode of authorship and contribute to the construction of Karen Karnak, suggesting further areas of research into the emerging multi-author
A 2 h periodic variation in the low-mass X-ray binary Ser X-1
Spectroscopy of the low-mass X-ray binary Ser X-1 using the Gran Telescopio Canarias have revealed a ?2 h periodic variability that is present in the three strongest emission lines. We tentatively interpret this variability as due to orbital motion, making it the first indication of the orbital period of Ser X-1. Together with the fact that the emission lines are remarkably narrow, but still resolved, we show that a main-sequence K dwarf together with a canonical 1.4 M? neutron star gives a good description of the system. In this scenario, the most likely place for the emission lines to arise is the accretion disc, instead of a localized region in the binary (such as the irradiated surface or the stream-impact point), and their narrowness is due instead to the low inclination (?10°) of Ser X-1

Pfitzner proved that -algebras have Pełczyński's property (V). In the preprint (Krulišová, (2015)) the author explores possible quantifications of the property (V) and shows that spaces for a compact Hausdorff space enjoy a quantitative version of the property (V). In this paper we generalize this result by quantifying Pfitzner's theorem. Moreover, we prove that in dual Banach spaces a quantitative version of the property (V) implies a quantitative version of the Grothendieck property
