Narrating the Pandit Exodus: A Study of Indian Administrate Kashmir

    No full text
The rigging of the 1987 elections in Jammu and Kashmir Legislative assembly led to huge unrest among the youth and it gave rise to the armed struggle and consequently led to the forced migration of Kashmiri Pandit community. There are different views about the pandit exodus in Kashmir. There were few who held Jagmohan responsible for the exodus. Some people said Pandits left on their own because of the frightening situation in the Valley. Such people naturally emphasized how sponsored armed militancy destroyed peace and ruined communal harmony. A few said Kashmiri Muslims did nothing to prevent the Pandit exodus, although many felt the majority community was itself scared and it was impossible for them to stop the exodus. In this regard, the paper aims to provide different narratives to the Pandit exodus

Is there a difference between chronic airway inflammation in chronic severe asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease?

PURPOSE OF REVIEW: The lack of a universally accepted definition of chronic severe asthma and the continuous changes in the classification of the severity of stable chronic obstructive pulmonary disease in the last 10 years make it difficult to compare the many studies available. The aim of the review is to compare studies on chronic severe asthma that have a control group of patients with mild to moderate persistent asthma and studies on stable chronic obstructive pulmonary disease that have an age-matched control group of smokers with normal lung function (with or without chronic bronchitis). RECENT FINDINGS: Our review of the recent literature in this field seems to indicate that chronic airway inflammation in chronic severe asthma is characterized in most cases, both in central and peripheral airways, by the same pathological features of mild-moderate persistent asthma with an increased number of activated T lymphocytes, particularly CD4 Th2 cells, and sometimes eosinophils and mast cells. The most notable difference of chronic severe asthma compared with mild to moderate disease is the increased number of neutrophils. Chronic airway inflammation in stable chronic obstructive pulmonary disease is characterized, both in central and peripheral airways, by an increased number of T lymphocytes, particularly CD8+, macrophages and neutrophils. Macrophage and neutrophil counts increase with the progression of the severity of the disease. SUMMARY: These differences in chronic airway inflammation support the consensus that asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease are different diseases along all their stages of severity

Universal Statistical Properties of Inertial-particle Trajectories in Three-dimensional, Homogeneous, Isotropic, Fluid Turbulence

We obtain new universal statistical properties of heavy-particle trajectories in three-dimensional, statistically steady, homogeneous, and isotropic turbulent flows by direct numerical simulations. We show that the probability distribution functions (PDFs) P(Φ), of the angle Φ between the Eulerian velocity u and the particle velocity v, at a point and time, scales as P(Φ) ∼Φ−, with a new universal exponent ≃ 4

New genera, a new species, and a key to the genera of Ashieldophyinae (Acari, Eriophyoidea) from India

Two new genera, Brevishieldophyes Chakrabarti & Pandit, gen. n. and Mesoshieldophyes Chakrabarti & Pandit, gen. n., and a new species Mesoshieldophyes varecae Chakrabarti & Pandit, sp. n. are described. These mites are leaf vagrants. The morphological characters of the afore-mentioned genera and those of Ashieldophyes Mohanasundaram are compared. A key for separating the genera within the subfamily Ashieldophyinae is provided. The diagnostic characters of the subfamily Ashieldophyinae are also revised
