Downlink Space–Time Spreading Using Interference Rejection Codes

    No full text
In this paper, the authors will investigate the performance of a loosely synchronized (LS) code-based space–time spreading (STS) scheme in comparison to that of classic Walsh code and pseudonoise code-based STS when communicating over dispersive Nakagami-m multipath channels. Closed-form formulas are derived for characterizing the bit-error-rate performance as a function of the number of resolvable paths L and the number of users K. Our numerical results suggest that the employment of LS code-based STS scheme is beneficial in a low-user-load and low-dispersion channel scenario, where a near-single-user performance can be achieved without a multiuser detector. Index Terms—Code-division multiple access (CDMA), Gaussian approximation, interference-free window (IFW), large area synchronized (LAS) codes, loosely synchronized (LS) codes, Nakagami-m fading

Pan shou 板授 Appointment under the Wei, Chin and Southern Dynasties of China

The author discusses the word pan 板 designating one of the forms of appointment of officials in use under the Wei, Chin and Southern Dynasties of China, in order to find out what relationship existed between the emperor and his bureaucratic vassals at that time. The author concludes:a) The verb pan means either (1) to appoint as an emperor in person, or (2) to appoint as an agent of the emperor although the latter should so act in person, or (3) to appoint as the head of an office according to set rule. In either case a pan or board was used at the appointment ceremony.b) In the case of Appointment Form (1), the text is written on a piece of yellow paper and pasted on a board, while in the case of Appointment Form (2) the paper is white. The former is called huang pan 黄板 or yellow board and the latter pai pan 白板 or white board.c) Pan also has more limited meanings. When contrasted to ch’u 除, that is, Appointment Form (1), pan means Appointment Form (3). Within Appointment Form (1), pan may be contrasted to chia 仮.d) From the such viewpoints, Li Shan’s 李善 cotnmentary on pan chao shu 板詔書 in Hsieh P’ing yüan nei shih piao 謝平原内史表 in Wen hüan 文選 must be wrong.e) In the case of Appointment Form (1), the appointee may be given both a seal and a ribbon or only a seal. In the case of Appointment Form (2), he is given neither seal nor ribbon. In the case of Appointment Form (3), he may be given both or neither.f) A regional governor who has been appointed with Appointment Form (2) sometimes bears a word hsing 行 on top of his official title. This may mean that he has been appointed by an agent of the emperor.journal articl

A Study of the Classical Landscape at the Wang River Villa of Wang Wei

The landscape of Wang Wei's Wang River Villa is examined by reviewing the essays and papers written about the poetical collaboration, the “Wang River Collection.” The purpose of this paper is to clarify the meaning of villa architecture in China. The author expects that this research will contribute to a mutual understanding between cultures. The villa was a Utopia for Wang. On the other hand, he was a pious Buddhist and Buddhistic concepts are reflected in the landscape. I consider the features of the classical landscape of Xie Lingyun and "Chu Ci," as written in “The Collection,” a reflection of the Buddhistic concept. When considering what the classics meant to Wang Wei, it is apparent that his villa is a representation of the classical landscape. It is not an imitation of the classical landscape, but a unique and original creation of art by Wang.departmental bulletin pape

Observation of a class of disturbance in time series expansion for fractional order systems

This paper is concerned with the problem of designing disturbance observer for fractional order systems, of which the disturbance is in time series expansion. The stability of a special observer with the selected nonlinear weighted function and transient dynamics function is rigorously analyzed for slowly varying disturbance. In addition, the result is also extended to estimate slope forms disturbance and higher order disturbance of fractional order systems. The efficacy of the proposed method is validated through numerical examples. © 2014 Yiheng Wei et al
