Economic Efficiency of Organic Milkfish Aquaculture at Guimaras Island

    Get PDF
This study was conducted to determine the economic analysis of 19 milkfish aquaculture operators in Guimaras to ascertain profitability, sustainability, and productivity of organic intensive aquaculture. Majority of the milkfish growers were sole proprietors and use extensive production system. Financial performance was measured using Return on Investment (ROI) and Payback Period (PBP) and inferentially described using Pearson’s Chi-Square. The organic intensive milkfish aquaculture production system significantly gained the highest ROI and lowest in PBP, followed by extensive, semi-intensive, and inorganic intensive aquaculture system which significantly gained the lowest return on investment and significantly highest in payback period. The intensive milkfish aquaculture system that introduced organic feeds commensurate a significant higher productivity and profitability compared to other milkfish aquaculture system. Greater efforts are made with respect to the sourcing of organic raw materials for the feed industry for sustainability of the growth of the aquaculture sector in the province and Philippines but its formulations must be further improved for better feed conversion efficiency and to minimize environmental impacts

Production Practices of Poultry and Livestock Raisers in the Province of Guimaras

This study was focused on investigating the production practices of poultry and livestock farmers in the Province of Guimaras. Thus, this was further to assess the following variables; poultry and livestock operation profile, sources of animals, livestock pasture feed and feed supplements, water, poultry and livestock living conditions, health management, manure management, and marketing. The farmers raised livestock animals such as cattle, pigs, carabaos, and goats, while they have also raised native and layer chickens. Livestock farmers were backyard raisers using a tethering system of owned animals. They utilized pelleted commercial feeds, but those using locally mixed feeds use rice bran, corn, and copra as feed ingredients, wherein they feed their animals on schedule. They used crossed breed, using the natural method of herd mating, wherein they considered the breed in the selecting stocks. The farmers commonly practiced vaccination, deworming, and vitamin/antibiotic supplementation for the health management of their animals. They sold their animals live as wholesale and cash on delivery basis. The common problems encountered by the farmers are diseases, adverse climatic conditions, capitalization, and marketing. Radio and television are the major sources of information. Farmers are not organic practitioners, especially on the introduction of feeds.

Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis

    Get PDF
The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed

    Variations on the Author

“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship

This study was conducted to determine the knowledge, attitude, and practices of stakeholders in IBMS. The descriptive utilizing survey method of data gathering was used in this study. The respondents of the study were the 49 local chief executives and local government unit key officials, students/youth, local business owners and school head and teacher. Results revealed that majority respondents identified biodiversity as trees, plants, and forests. As to the ocean marine pollution, the number sources of pollution were from plastics and human activity. As to climate change, they believed that it was anchored to global warming (36 or 73.5%). Furthermore, they have positive attitude outlook on “I feel the need to protect the various ecosystems because it affects my sources of livelihood” with 41 or 83.7%. Moreover, on the practices on the marine protected area, majority of them were contributing to the conservation and protection of biodiversity through proper waste segregation. Radio was chosen as most effective media to spread awareness regarding the status of our country’s biodiversity. The study showed that stakeholders have high knowledge, positive attitude, and good practices.

Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis

We provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature. Finally, we show by means of an example that our findings have a high practical relevance.information science;Pearson correlation;cosine;similarity measure;author cocitation analysis

An Analysis of the Licensure Examination for Teachers Performance of BEED Graduates at Guimaras State University (2019-2023)

    Get PDF
This study examines the performance of Bachelor of Elementary Education (BEED) graduates from Guimaras State University (GSU) in the Licensure Examination for Teachers (LET) over a five-year period, from 2019 to 2023. The primary objective was to analyze trends in the passing and failure rates as well as average ratings across various subject areas. Data were gathered from secondary records provided by the Professional Regulation Commission and the university’s academic records. The study utilized descriptive quantitative research methods to identify patterns in exam performance. The results revealed significant improvements in the pass rates, with a decrease in failure rates from 59.3% in 2019 to 25% in 2023. While the overall passing rate was 63.5%, the passing rate for individual years showed fluctuating performance, reflecting the effectiveness of curriculum changes and instructional support mechanisms. Subject 2 consistently outperformed Subject 1 in average ratings, with a slight decline in 2023. The findings suggest that while GSU’s BEED program has made considerable progress, further efforts are needed to enhance performance in Subject 1. The study emphasizes the importance of targeted interventions such as specialized review programs, faculty development, and curriculum adjustments to sustain and improve licensure exam results. The research contributes to understanding how teacher education institutions can improve their licensure outcomes, ultimately preparing future educators for success

Dispelling the Myths Behind First-author Citation Counts

    Get PDF
We conducted a full-scale evaluative citation analysis study of scholars in the XML research field to explore just how different from each other author rankings resulting from different citation counting methods actually are, and to demonstrate the capability of emerging data and tools on the Web in supporting more realistic citation counting methods. Our results contest some common arguments for the continued use of first-author citation counts in the evaluation of scholars, such as high correlations between author rankings by first-author citation counts and other citation counting methods, and high costs of using more realistic citation counting methods that are not well-supported by the ISI databases. It is argued that increasingly available digital full text research papers make it possible for citation analysis studies to go beyond what the ISI databases have directly supported and to employ more sophisticated methods
