Do young people really engage in sustainable behaviors in their lifestyles?

In recent years, environmental problems have become a serious issue worldwide due to the increasing damage caused by climate change. People’s environmental awareness has grown, and public opinion is now demanding effective action from governments. Young people around the world are playing an important role in this, with the Fridays For Future movement, calling on policymakers to make environmental protection one of their political priorities. Through a survey of 1,975 high school students, this paper aims to contribute to the study of young people’s sustainable behaviors and their awareness to take effective action against environmental degradation, to explore their concerns and opinions about environmental issues, and to find out what ecological practices they are willing to adopt in their daily lives. Data analysis is conducted using tree-based methods to examine the sustainable behaviors and define the key practices that constitute them. The results of classification tree show that sustainable behaviors impact lifestyles, whether through less demanding actions such as turning off the faucet or appliances, or willingness to work as a volunteer, among others. The Random Forest provides us with a ranked list of sustainable behaviors that young people engage in to reduce and stop environmental degradation. The results of this study may be of interest to policy makers who need to plan educational pathways for students from elementary school to university, as environmental culture must be a cornerstone of our society

Growth and Survival of Small-sized Enterprises in Hostile Territories

There is something still considered marginal in the literature of econ-omy: the character of the entrepreneur whose career develops in a hostile socioeconomic environment. It is made-up of abilities that fol-low no code, the fruit of evolutionary adjustments essential to under-stand peculiar kinds of small enterprise. The unforeseen legacy of a territorial competition where what counts, besides the immediate abil-ity to respond to unexpected events, is a further dose of creativity that cannot be found in geographical outposts (that welcome enterprises) hosting the modern capitalist industry. The point here is to try to as-sess how important this cognitive asset is and in which situations it clearly displays its weight in entrepreneurial activity

Una breve storia della farmacologia occidentale

    No full text
This essay aims to offer a concise overview of the main dynamics that have marked the history of Western pharmacology. The objective of this work is to suggest a possible historicization to understand the socio-cultural context of the time in which the main discoveries in the pharmacological field have taken place. For this reason, the study has been restricted to the transversal “region” that is usually defined by the term “West”. Nevertheless, although moved by a spirit of genuine and meticulous precision, we are obviously aware of the shortcomings, even of a bibliographic nature, to which this type of enterprise exposes, and which can be remedied only with the binding revelation that this effort is nothing more than the first step in a much longer and, hopefully, fruitful path

Mistery Shopping and Bayesian Networks to Evaluate Customer Satisfaction in Jewellery Stores

    No full text
In recent decades, the growth of shopping malls has greatly changed the habits of both retailers and customers across all sectors. Among them, jewelleries represent a special case. In traditional jewelleries, the relationship between jewellers and customers is a key element, but for jewelleries in a mall, the primary elements of customer satisfaction are greatly modified by the different context. We analysed the features of customer satisfaction in the case of jewelleries in malls, using mystery shopping and Bayesian networks. We identified the most relevant determinants of customer satisfaction, and concluded by defining the most effective actions to improve overall satisfaction

Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis

The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed
