Su questa domanda vi fu un'ampia polemica nel corso del XVII. secolo tra missionari della Compagnia di Gesù (per i quali i riti dei letterati cinesi a Confucio e agli antenati non costituivano un rito "sacro") e missionari appartenenti ad altri ordini, che classificavano tali riti come sacrifici idolatrici. L'articolo mira a ricostruire il dibattito come spia delle incertezze concettuali della teologia su questo punt

No full textABSTRACT: René Descartes’s last book The Passions of the Soul (1649) includes several paragraphs concerning esteem and contempt, both seen as special kinds of “wonder” (admiration). After having focused the relationships between esteem and love and wonder in the early stages of Descartes’s philosophy of passions, the paper comes to the conclusion that Descartes profoundly changed his former opinions on “esteem” and gave this concept a new identity precisely in his last work. This evolution was, however, consistent with Descartes’s final approach to the nature of passions and – above all – with one of the fundamental purposes he gave to his latest book, namely to defend the search for a personal moral identity from accusations that were usually aimed at “self-love”

Expression of Bcl-2 in canine osteosarcoma
No full textOsteosarcoma (OS) is the most common primary malignancy of bone. It is responsible for 80-85% of the primary bone tumors affecting dogs and it is characterized by aggressive and invasive behavior, with a high metastatic potential. Several studies on cancer and related tumorigenesis, show an involvement of the mechanisms of programmed cell death and cell survival. Many signals seem to be involved in the related mechanism of autophagy and in particular, our interest is focused on the expression of a family of Bcl-2 that seems to be involved either in the control of biomolecular mechanisms like autophagy and apoptosis. In this study we investigated the expression of Bcl-2 in different cases of spontaneous canine osteosarcoma and the related preliminary results are described. We found Bcl-2 activity was increased in OS tissue compared to normal bone tissue. These results suggested that Bcl-2 activity may play an important role in the formation of OS and as a diagnostic for neoplastic activity. However, further research is needed to confirm the role of Bcl-2 activity in OS in canines

Generalizing an exactly-1 SAT solver for arbitrary numbers of variables, clauses, and K
Full text linkQuantum computers promise to allow for great improvements in the solution of k-SAT problem, determining whether a set of clauses with k variables have a satisfiable boolean assignment, which is one of the fundamental problems of computational logic. Given the recent advancements of quantum computers, we argue that they allow for great improvements in solving the k-SAT problem. In order to evaluate this possibility, in this work, we generalized a pre-existing quantum 3-SAT solver [1] to the most general case for the number of variables, clauses, and k, using the IBM Qiskit library [2]. We extended basic gates and steps of the underlying algorithm to reduce the number of used qubits and gates, in order to deal with the decoherence problem [3]. We tested our solution on complex instances of k-SAT, which preserved the exponential speedup promised by Grover algorithm [4]
