La sequenza archeologica di Barbiano-Caserma dei Vigili del Fuoco (Bolzano): evidenze di sistemazioni dei versanti durante il Neolitico.
SEQS 2012 Sardinia: at the edge of the sea
Sardinia occupies a central position in the Mediterranean Sea, and therefore represents a perfect starting point to investigate the climate changes of the Pleistocene and Holocene. Recently, most attention has been dedicated to the understanding of what has occurred during the last Interglacial, MIS 5. In particular, scientists are assessing whether the present interglacial is similar to the MIS 5e climate optimum, or to the later MIS 5c substage. Moreover, are models defined in Central Europe for MIS 5 also applicable to the Mediterranean area? What has occurred in the past, and in particular in the recent past, can be used to forecast the future. It is undoubtedly recorded in sediments and we have only to find the correct tools to dig this information out

Seismic hazard assessment at municipality scale: the Unesco cultural heritage site of San Gimignano (Italy)
In the frame of the project Rischio Sismico negli Edifici Monumentali-RiSEM (Seismic Risk in Monumental Buildings), a seismogeological reference model was developed for the historical center of the town of San Gimignano in central Italy in order to evaluate possible small-scale lateral variation of seismic hazard. To this aim, an on-purpose geological and geomorphological survey was performed along with ambient vibration measurements (both in a single station and array configurations) to characterize seismic response in the study area. Expectedseismic amplificationeffectswere quantifiedby considering asimplifiedapproach developedinItaly forseismic microzoning at the municipality scale. This study provided preliminary information supporting site-specific analyses of the local seismic response and makes it possible the identify most critical situations in which eventual seismic retrofitting interventions are more urgent to reduce seismic ris
Changing landscapes in the Colline Metallifere (Southern Tuscany, Italy): early medieval palaeohydrology and land management along the Pecora river valley
Geoarchaeology of the Cornia river coastal plain (Piombino, southern Tuscany, Italy)
This paper presents a 1:20,000 scale Geoarchaeological map of the Cornia river coastal plain in southern Tuscany. The Geoarchaeological map integrates a comprehensive dataset of geomorphological and archaeological features. The spatial relationships between landforms and archaeological records show that the settlement pattern from the VII century BC to the V century AD was mostly influenced by the presence of several depositional landforms
which formed before the period under consideration. Integrating the outputs of geomorphological and topographical analyses with archaeological databases is also helpful for land planning, especially in areas where present-day anthropic exploitation needs predictive and valid tools to assess the archaeological hazard
