Optimization of drugs delivery routes through location routing problem (Lrp): A case study

    No full text
The location-routing problem (LRP) plays a critical role in logistics system optimization where companies need to set up a proper design of operation strategies to fulfil the demand for product delivery. This paper analysed an efficient products distribution of a delivery drugs Italian company through the development of LRP analysis. Thus, due to a reduction of company sales volume, a delivery routes re-planning was investigated moving from a logistics plan that involved the use of the main warehouse with replenishment at intermediate one to a new configuration with only the main warehouse. The analysis is based on the identification of the ideal location of the main warehouse by optimizing the delivery routes of goods to meet customers’ demands. Optimal solutions are found according to the integration of the facility location and the vehicle-routing problems (VRP) aimed at minimizing the total logistic system cost

TV white spaces exploitation for multimedia signal distribution

    No full text
The new spectrum regulation policies for dynamic spectrum access, especially those concerning the use of the white spaces in the Digital Terrestrial Television (DTT) bands, arise the need for fast and reliable signal identification and classification methods. In this paper we present a two-stage identification method for signals in the white spaces, using combined energy detection and feature detection. The band of interest is divided by means of the Discrete Wavelet Packet Transformation (DWPT) in sub-bands where the signal power is calculated. Modulation classifiers taking into account the statistical parameters of the signal in the wavelet domain are used as features for identifying the modulation schemes, in this case specifically for the DVB-T broadcast standard. Finally, a signal transmission architecture based on Motion JPEG XR has been implemented in order to explore and evaluate a practical application of indoor signal distribution over white-spaces. © 2012 Elsevier B.V

Settling of finite-size particles in isotropically forced, homogeneous turbulence: interface-resolved simulations

    No full text
We have simulated the gravity-induced settling of finite-size particles in a turbulent background flow which is forced in a statistically-stationary fashion. The simulations are accurately resolving the solid-fluid interface with the aid of an immersed boundary technique [1]. The parameters of the simulation are (apart from background turbulence) identical to those of reference [2], where particle clustering was observed at a Galileo number of 178 and a solid volume fraction of 0.005. In the present case, it is found that a relative turbulence intensity of 0.24 leads to the disappearance of the clusters; as a consequence, the increase in average particle settling velocity found in [2] also vanishes.
