Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis

counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed
Variations on the Author
No full text“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship
Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis
No full textWe provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature. counting methods, and high costs of using more realistic citation counting methods that are not well-supported by the ISI databases. Note that the objective for the hut study was to evaluate the IRS treatment applications for residual efficacy against Anopheles mosquitoes, including the local An. coluzzii mosquito population. Cows were only used to attract mosquitoes into the huts and no tests were carried out directly on the cows. The author checklist is intended for use with studies where experiments are carried out on animals, which is why we have had such difficulty in completing this for the hut study, as many of the questions do not relate to how the cows were used
Impact of SARS-CoV-2 infection on lipid metabolism in adipocytes
No full textA compreensão completa da doença COVID-19 é crucial para o desenvolvimento de estratégias eficazes de prevenção, diagnóstico e tratamento. Dada a complexidade e a variabilidade da patogênese da COVID-19, é fundamental investigar como o vírus SARS-CoV-2 interage com diferentes tecidos do corpo humano. Nesse sentido, a pesquisa sobre a infecção por SARS-CoV-2 no tecido adiposo humano emerge como uma área altamente promissora e relevante. Ao explorar essa interação única, podemos obter insights valiosos que não apenas ampliam nossa compreensão da doença, mas também podem abrir caminho para abordagens terapêuticas inovadoras e personalizadas. Neste trabalho, avaliamos o papel do tecido adiposo na infecção por SARS-CoV-2 e como o vírus interage com os adipócitos, incluindo os mecanismos intracelulares utilizados para infectar e se replicar, bem como o impacto da infecção na função lipolítica celular. Para entender os mecanismos intracelulares utilizados pelo vírus para infectar e se replicar em adipócitos, realizamos análises em amostras de tecido adiposo torácico post-mortem de pacientes falecidos por COVID-19. Observamos marcações imunológicas para proteína viral e quantificamos o RNA viral por RT-qPCR. Além disso, infectamos adipócitos humanos maduros em cultura e avaliamos a infecção nessas células. Descobrimos que os adipócitos viscerais são mais suscetíveis à infecção em comparação com os subcutâneos, devido à maior expressão da proteína de entrada viral, a Enzima conversora de angiotensina 2 (ACE2). O vírus utiliza a maquinaria intracelular, reduzindo a expressão de enzimas envolvidas na lipólise e diminuindo a produção de produtos desse processo, como o glicerol, para sustentar sua replicação e promover uma infecção produtiva. Notavelmente, quando simulamos a ativação lipolítica usando uma droga beta-adrenérgica, observamos um aumento da quantidade de vírus infecciosos no meio extracelular. Esses resultados destacam que as células adiposas viscerais são mais permissivas à infecção por SARS-CoV-2 e revelam a capacidade do vírus de interferir nas proteínas essenciais da lipólise intracelular. Compreender a interação entre o vírus e o tecido adiposo pode fornecer implicações significativas no diagnóstico, tratamento e prevenção da doença.A complete understanding of COVID-19 disease is crucial for developing effective prevention, diagnosis, and treatment strategies. Given the complexity and variability of COVID-19 pathogenesis, it is essential to investigate how the SARS-CoV-2 virus interacts with different tissues of the human body. In this sense, research on SARS-CoV-2 infection in human adipose tissue emerges as a highly promising and relevant area. By exploring this unique interaction, we can gain valuable insights that not only expand our understanding of the disease but may also pave the way for innovative and personalized therapeutic approaches. In this work, we evaluate the role of adipose tissue in SARS-CoV-2 infection and how the virus interacts with adipocytes, including the intracellular mechanisms used to infect and replicate, as well as the impact of infection on cellular lipolytic function. To understand the intracellular mechanisms used by the virus to infect and replicate in adipocytes, we performed analyses on post-mortem thoracic adipose tissue samples from patients who died from COVID-19. We observed immunological staining for viral protein and quantified viral RNA by RT-qPCR. Furthermore, we infected mature human adipocytes in culture and assessed infection in these cells. We found that visceral adipocytes are more susceptible to infection compared to subcutaneous adipocytes due to higher expression of the viral entry protein, Angiotensin Converting Enzyme 2 (ACE2). The virus uses the intracellular machinery, reducing the expression of enzymes involved in lipolysis and reducing the production of products from this process, such as glycerol, to sustain its replication and promote a productive infection. Notably, when we simulated lipolytic activation using a beta-adrenergic drug, we observed an increase in the amount of infectious virus in the extracellular environment. These results highlight that visceral adipose cells are more permissive to SARS-CoV-2 infection and reveal the virus\'s ability to interfere with essential proteins of intracellular lipolysis. Understanding the interaction between the virus and adipose tissue could provide significant implications for the diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of the disease
