Queste architetture-città, realizzate in Italia fra la fine degli anni `50 e inizio ‘80 del XX secolo, sono state individuate come exempla dell’abitareXXtra. Attraverso un ribaltamento del punto di vista – che pone al centro dell’attenzione il vuoto tra gli oggetti piuttosto che gli oggetti stessi – la ricerca mette in ordine prima, e in discussione poi, le vicende accadute, sovvertendone la visione critico-architettonica e prediligendo una postura paesaggistico-spaziale.
Tornare criticamente ai loro archivi è stata l’occasione per cercare tracce – talvolta inconsapevoli o rimaste intrappolate solo negli elaborati stessi – che fanno emergere i primi “enzimi” del “fare paesaggio” contemporaneo e che offrono nuovi spunti di riflessione sul modello insediativo proposto, sul paesaggio urbano sotteso, e sulle sue possibilità ecologiche.
Oltre le contestazioni generalizzate e indipendentemente dai (pre)giudizi, la sostanza di queste opere, riletta alla luce della permacrisi contemporanea, delle questioni ambientali e delle nuove conoscenze, rivela caratteri inconsapevolmente embrionali ed estremamente attuali. Abbandonando l’utopia gestazionale, queste Moderne realizzazioni si riscoprono eutopie, macchine ecotonali possibili, e ripetibili, capaci di generare relazioni inedite nell’ambiente e per l’ambiente. Invitano a pensare un nuovo urbanesimo possibile, mo(n)di del vivere coevolutivi, capaci di accogliere e incrementare la (bio)diversità della città del XXI secolo, di soddisfare le esigenze degli esseri che la abitano e di agevolare i flussi di tutti i corpi che la attraversano
On marine wind power expressiveness: not just an issue of visual impact
Get PDFTechnological research for the exploitation of marine energy has produced significant advances which promise to expedite the process of transitioning to renewable resources. However, many issues hinder the effective exploitation of marine energy: among these are cultural concerns regarding the visual impacts of these technologies used. Assuming that “protecting” means preserving without banning evolutive changes, seascape protection and ecological transition are not alternatives because both converge toward sustainability. Even so, scientific concepts, technical practices, social perceptions, and the decisions and actions associated with them raise contradictions and conflicts. Within the complex challenge of ecological transition, clean energy availability arises as a necessary and imperative condition. This article proposes a critical landscape design perspective which focuses on the importance of understanding and expressing contemporaneity through the changes it brings to habitats and life. A focus on the visual impact of marine wind turbine is proposed as an example for a general discussion on technical and social perceptions in a context of both cultural and spatial transition. Site specific critical visions have to be imagined and discussed to produce not business as usual transformations. This article aims to show that decisions predominantly influenced by issues of visual impact do not adequately express the cultural dimension of ecological transition
Don’t Split Them Up! Landscape Design of Multifunctional Open Spaces Suitable for Coping with Flash Floods and River Floods
Get PDFPressures arising from agriculture, infrastructures and settlements have gradually reduced natural spaces of European watercourses limiting their self-regulation capacities, environmental and social potentials, resulting in widespread critical anthropic features. Dealing with flood phenomena adds artificiality, as several works for hydraulic protection are necessary. This was the case of Pistoia, a small city in the north of Tuscany, where the Ombrone stream, held in a straight-channeled course since the 18th century, sometimes breaks its embankments and floods the low plain from the southeast of Pistoia to downstream. Complying with the EU Floods Directive (2007/60/EC), the regional authority for flood risks planned some basins in the high plain upstream of Pistoia. A study we developed before this research assumed to shift the design approach from functional separation to full integration of hydraulic works in an area planned as an urban park for several years, but still in waiting. We now carried out a second study that adopts the concept of deep structure as the main design reference to “see” the park in the landscape features. This article concerns the research by the design process just developed to investigate a sustainable layout of the place new hydraulic asset as a basic landscape identity of the future park. Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
Get PDFThe present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed

Variations on the Author
Get PDF“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship
Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis
Get PDFWe provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature. Dispelling the Myths Behind First-author Citation Counts

use of first-author citation counts in the evaluation of scholars, such as high correlations between author rankings by first-author citation counts and other citation
counting methods, and high costs of using more realistic citation counting methods that are not well-supported by the ISI databases.
