Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed

Variations on the Author
“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship
Design of metacontinua in the aeroacoustic spacetime
The effect of background flows on the response of acoustic metamaterials is a key aspect that prevented the full disclosure of their potential in those applications where an aerodynamic velocity field strongly influences the propagation of acoustic disturbances. Indeed, the classic approaches for metamaterial design do not consider the aeroacoustic interaction, and the resulting metamaterials cannot preserve their response when operating in flows. So far, only few authors have addressed the problem, mostly focusing on understanding the phenomenon or identifying corrective techniques with limited usability in practical applications. The present study proposes a general method for the modification of the mechanical properties of acoustic metacontinua to preserve their response in presence of a background flow. The method is based on the application of spacetime coordinate transformations exploiting the spacetime formal invariance of the generalised d’Alembertian. This methodology applies to the equation governing the propagation of acoustic disturbances in a metamaterial having arbitrary constitutive equations independently on the method used for its original design. The approach is validated through numerical simulations, using as a benchmark the problem of the acoustic cloaking of a cylinder impinged by a perturbation generated by an isotropic point source within a flowing medium. Numerical results are obtained for an asymptotic Mach number M∞≤ 0.35
The Wasserstein Distance of Order 1 for Quantum Spin Systems on Infinite Lattices
We propose a generalization of the Wasserstein distance of order 1 to quantum spin systems on the lattice Z(d), which we call specific quantum W-1 distance. The proposal is based on the W-1 distance for qudits of De Palma et al. (IEEE Trans Inf Theory 67(10):6627-6643, 2021) and recovers Ornstein's (d) over bar -distance for the quantum states whose marginal states on any finite number of spins are diagonal in the canonical basis. We also propose a generalization of the Lipschitz constant to quantum interactions on Z(d) and prove that such quantum Lipschitz constant and the specific quantum W-1 distance are mutually dual. We prove a new continuity bound for the von Neumann entropy for a finite set of quantum spins in terms of the quantum W-1 distance, and we apply it to prove a continuity bound for the specific von Neumann entropy in terms of the specific quantum W-1 distance for quantum spin systems on Z(d). Finally, we prove that local quantum commuting interactions above a critical temperature satisfy a transportation-cost inequality, which implies the uniqueness of their Gibbs states
Witnessing objectivity on a quantum computer
Understanding the emergence of objectivity from the quantum realm has been a long standing issue strongly related to the quantum to classical crossover. Quantum Darwinism (QD) provides an answer, interpreting objectivity as consensus between independent observers. Quantum computers provide an interesting platform for such experimental investigation of QD, fulfiling their initial intended purpose as quantum simulators. Here we assess to what degree current Noisy intermediate-scale quantum devices can be used as experimental platforms in the field of QD. We do this by simulating an exactly solvable stochastic collision model, taking advantage of the analytical solution to benchmark the experimental results
On the integration of acoustic phase-gradient metasurfaces in aeronautics
Metamaterials might be one of the breakthrough technologies needed from the aeronautic industry to achieve the more and more challenging targets set by the international authorities, especially about noise emissions. In this article, a theoretical link between Transformation Acoustics and Generalized Snell’s Law, two widely used metamaterial models, is demonstrated analytically and applied to case studies. The relevance of the connection in the aeroacoustic field is discussed along with the consequent computational advantages for numerical simulations. This is exploited to perform a simulation-based design optimization of a phase-graded metasurface acoustic lining of a 2 D duct in presence of flow. Results show promising abilities of the optimized device to modify and control the directivity of the noise emitted from the duct by means of unconventional reflections. The noise reduction in the desired direction is obtained through constructive and destructive interference, with no absorption from the boundaries
