<i>Echinobothrium reesae (Cestoda : Diphyllidea)</i> from the sting rays of Waltair coast
XXIII SERC School in Theoretical High Energy Physics (SERC THEP)
The recent discovery at the Large Hadron Collider, of what is very likely the Higgs particle, has given a fillip to research in High Energy physics. These experiments hold the promise of a glimpse of physics beyond the Standard Model, which while having been verified to great accuracy, cannot be the final theory. Uncomfortable gaps -both theoretical and experimental- remain in our understanding. Lecture notes from the SERC School in Theoretical High Energy Physics held at IIT Bombay in February 2008 are contained in this volume. Topics that were covered then are of continuing importance, more so in the light of the ongoing LHC experiment. The various chapters in the book include an extensive survey of LHC physics that together with formal aspects and models of supersymmetry, review the state of the art in our understanding of the Standard Model and beyond. The article on B Physics and CP violations add to this, while the chapter on thermal field theory reviews the formalism necessary to understand the early universe and to embark on an analysis of quark-gluon plasma in heavy ion collisions. Written in a clear pedagogic style by active researchers, this text will prepare a beginner to work in the field and at the same time will also provide useful reference material for active researchers
from the sting rays of Waltair coast
A new species of the genus Echinobothrium Van Beneden 1849, obtained from the spiral valve of sting rays, Trygon walga, Muller & Henle and T. uarnak Muller & Henle off Waltair coast, is described.
Anatomical details of musculature, male and female reproductive systems are furnished.
Echinobothrium reesae n. sp. is compared and separated from other species hitherto described.
The complete absence of the spines on the cephalic peduncle and the number of apical hooks (13 + 4) on the rostellum of the scolex, justify the establishment of the new species E. reesae
Supergravity solution for three-string junction in M-theory
Three-string junctions are allowed configurations in IIB string theory which preserve one-fourth supersymmetry. We obtain the 11-dimensional supergravity solution for curved membranes corresponding to these three-string junctions
Echocardiography changes in hypertensive disorder of pregnancy
Background: Acute preeclampsia is associated with significantly higher prevalence of asymptomatic global left ventricular (LV) abnormal function and myocardial injury than uneventful pregnancy.
Objective: To evaluate the LV changes in pre-eclamptic women and to compare with normotensive women.
Methods: This study was conducted in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Chalmeda Anand Rao Institute of Medical Sciences, Karimnagar. Two hundred women were in each group: 200 patients with preeclampsia as cases and 200normotensive patients as controls.
Results: The mean LV end-systolic volume (LV ESV) in pre-eclamptic women was 33.45 ± 2.8, LV end-diastolic volume (LV EDV) was 106 ± 3.01, and LV systolic mass (LV Ms) was 87.1 ± 1.65 when compared to normotensive women LV ESV 27 ± 0.74, (P < 0.0001) LV EDV 106.2 ± 0.43, (P -0.3528), and LV Ms 84 ± 0.56 (P < 0.0001).
Conclusion: This study emphasizes the importance of identifying this subset of preeclamptic patients with echo changes who are at higher risk of developing cardiovascular complications later in life by undergoing echocardiography
Spectrum of rotating black holes and its implications for Hawking radiation
Sherpa Romeo green journal. “This is an author-created, un-copyedited version of an article accepted for publication/published in Classical and Quantum Gravity. IOP Publishing Ltd is not responsible for any errors or omissions in this version of the manuscript or any version derived from it.”The reduced phase space formalism for quantising black holes has recently been extended to
find the area and angular momentum spectra of four dimensional Kerr black holes. We extend
this further to rotating black holes in all spacetime dimensions and show that although as in four
dimensions the spectrum is discrete, it is not equispaced in general. As a result, Hawking radiation
spectra from these black holes are continuous, as opposed to the discrete spectrum predicted for
four dimensional black holes.N
Super-A-polynomials for twist knots
We conjecture formulae of the colored superpolynomials for a class of twist knots K-p where p denotes the number of full twists. The validity of the formulae is checked by applying differentials and taking special limits. Using the formulae, we compute both the classical and quantum super-A-polynomials for the twist knots with small values of p. The results support the categorified versions of the generalized volume conjecture and the quantum volume conjecture. Furthermore, we obtain the evidence that the Q-deformed A-polynomials can be identified with the augmentation polynomials of knot contact homology in the case of the twist knots
Three-manifold invariants from Chern-Simons field theory with arbitrary semi-simple gauge groups
Invariants for framed links in S-3 obtained from Chern-Simons gauge field theory based on an arbitrary gauge group (semi-simple) have been used to construct a three-manifold invariant. This is a generalization of a similar construction developed earlier for SU(2) Chern-Simons theory. The procedure exploits a theorem of Lickorish and Wallace and also those of Kirby, Fenn and Rourke which relate three-manifolds to surgeries on framed unoriented links. The invariant is: an appropriate linear combination of framed link invariants which does not change under Kirby calculus. This combination does not see the relative orientation of the component knots. The invariant Is related to the partition function of Chern-Simons theory. This thus provides an efficient method of evaluating the partition function for these field theories. As some examples, explicit computations of these manifold invariants: for a few three-manifolds have been done
