These speeches, starting from the Study sulla "dolce" prospettiva of 1964, include also an important chapter on the Commedia by Dante. They represent a treatise of method and have an all round reflection on Parronchi¿s work so to become an essential instrument to understand his Poesie

No full textA multicenter approach to evaluate omalizumab effectiveness in Samter’s triad
No full textOmalizumab proved to be very effective in improving control of severe atopic asthma. Many small-sized studies suggested a potential role for omalizumab in the management of aspirin-exacerbated respiratory disease. The aim of this study is to describe the effectiveness of omalizumab in a multicentre group of patients with Samter’s triad. We retrospectively enrolled eight patients (5 females) with Samter’s triad who underwent at least one year of omalizumab therapy. Clinical data, functional parameters and questionnaires for asthma and nasal polyposis control were collected at baseline and follow-up. We observed a significant reduction of moderate-to-severe asthma exacerbations, together with an increase of FEV1 and a reduction of steroids intake. An improvement in asthma control and nasal symptoms was also reported. This multicenter study confirms the effectiveness of omalizumab in patients affected by Samter’s triad. Omalizumab may represent a potential therapeutic option for the management of this disease
Insights from a Case of Good’s Syndrome (Immunodeficiency with Thymoma)
No full textImmunodeficiency with thymoma was described by R.A. Good in 1954 and is also named after him. The syndrome is characterized by hypogammaglobulinemia associated with thymoma and recurrent infections, bacterial but also viral, fungal and parasitic. Autoimmune diseases, mainly pure red cell aplasia, other hematological disorders and erosive lichen planus are a common finding. We describe here a typical case exhibiting all these clinical features and report a detailed immunophenotypic assessment, as well as the positivity for autoantibodies against three cytokines (IFN-alpha, IL-6 and GM-CSF), which may add to known immune abnormalities. A review of the published literature, based on case series and immunological studies, offers some hints on the still unsolved issues of this rare condition
