A Method for Minimizing the Magnetic Cross Talk in Twin-Aperture cos θ Superconducting Dipoles
We present an analytic method to minimize the magnetic cross-talk in twin-aperture cos θ dipoles. In the single-aperture cos θ layout, the coil design can be performed with an analytic approach, based on a sector coil approximation. This method allows a fast evaluation of the field harmonics and an almost exhaustive scan on the positions and dimensions of the sectors, for coil layouts made of a different number of sectors. This increases the probabilities to find the coil shape which best fits the specifications. In a twin-aperture arrangement, the magnetic cross-talk can be not negligible and, to the aim of an analytic minimization of the unwanted multipoles, an extension of the single-aperture sector model is required. This is the case of the recombination dipole D2 for the High Luminosity Large Hadron Collider (HL-LHC) and of the 16-T bending dipole for the Future Circular Collider (FCC). This analytical method has been used to find alternative coil designs for both dipoles
UNCERTAINTY AND RESPONSE STYLE IN LATENT TRAIT MODELS TO ASSESS EMOTIONAL INTELLIGENCE OF ELITE SWIMMERS
Emotional intelligence is a key factor for success in sporting competitions, arousing great interest in the psychological assessment of athletes. When the evaluation relies on Likert-type psychometric scales, individuals could tend to respond to items regardless of their content, compromising the measurement process. In this vein, the present contribution aims to address measurement issues regarding uncertainty and response style during the assessment of emotional intelligence of elite swimmers by exploiting latent trait models. Results provide evidence in favor of models accounting for response behavior

Topological optimization and additive manufacturing of a metal functional panel for multi-mission modular satellite platform
The applications of Additive Manufacturing have significantly increased in many industrial areas, including crucial fields such as aerospace. A case study is presented in this paper: A metal functional panel for multi-mission modular satellite platform has been redesigned: namely, specific actions have been taken to allow the manufacturability of the component via laser powder-bed fusion, based on the general principle of topological optimization and the peculiar constraints of the selected technology for manufacturing. The effectiveness of the building process has been preliminarily validated by a numerical simulation and pre-production printing of representative samples of the panel. Post-processing of the final component has also been discussed
Tumblr Facts: Antecedents of Self-Disclosure across Different Social Networking Sites
Previous research investigating antecedents of online self-disclosure pointed out two perspectives: social compensation and enhancement hypotheses, showing controversial findings. Furthermore, most contributions have focused on social networking sites (SNSs) considered mainstream, like Facebook and Instagram, and such results are often considered universally valid for all SNSs. Tumblr is a less-studied SNS with peculiar features—such as anonymity, higher control over the presentation of personal aspects, supportive communities—that could particularly lead individuals to self-disclose. As prior contributions highlighted that the features and affordances could define how a medium will be used, this paper aims to investigate the antecedents of online self-disclosure on Tumblr and other mainstream SNSs. We run a survey on 559 Tumblr users (aged 13–70; M = 28.86; SD = 12.34). T-test showed that Tumblr users have a higher willingness to self-disclose on Tumblr compared to another SNSs (t = 22.44, p < 0.001). A path analysis model confirmed the predictive role of some psychological variables on self-disclosure on Tumblr but not on mainstream SNSs. In particular, self-disclosure on Tumblr was predicted by self-esteem, negative emotionality, and preference for online social interactions, which was in turn predicted by social anxiety. These findings partially supported both social compensation and enhancement hypotheses, indicating that the phenomenon is more complex than expected
Evaluating the Factor Structure of the Emotion Dysregulation Scale-Short (EDS-s): A Preliminary Study
Emotion dysregulation (ED) can be considered a psychopathological transdiagnostic dimension, the presence of which should be reliably screened in clinical settings. The aim of the current study was to validate the Italian version of the Emotion Dysregulation Scale-short (EDS-s), a brief self-report tool assessing emotion dysregulation, in a non-clinical sample of 1087 adults (768 women and 319 men). We also assessed its convergent validity with scales measuring binge eating and general psychopathology. Structural equation modeling suggested the fit of a one-factor model refined with correlations between the errors of three pairs of items (χ2 = 255.56, df = 51, p < 0.001, RMSEA = 0.08, CFI = 0.94, TLI = 0.93, SRMR = 0.04). The EDS-s demonstrated satisfactory internal consistency (ordinal alpha = 0.94). Moreover, EDS-s scores partly explained the variance of both binge eating (0.35, p < 0.001) and general psychopathology (0.60, p < 0.001). In conclusion, the EDS-s can be considered to be a reliable and valid measure of ED
A model dipole for FAIR SIS300 : design of the mechanical structure
Design activities coupled with conductor R&D and model coil construction are under way for developing a curved fast cycled superconducting dipole suitable for operations of the SIS300 synchrotron at FAIR. The main target is the construction within 2009 of a model magnet (cold mass fully integrated in a horizontal cryostat). This magnet is designed for generating 4.5 T magnetic field in a bore of 100 mm, able to be operated at a field rate of 1 T/s. The magnetic length is 3.8 m with a curvature radius of 66.67 m (the sagitta is 27 mm).
The mechanical structure is based on 3 mm thick laminated stainless steel collars, assembled through keys, and 1 mm thick iron yoke laminations, assembled through large Al alloy C-shaped clamps. A 2D finite element analysis has been performed to evaluate stresses and deformations coming out during assembly, cool-down and energization. Particular emphasis has been given to the possible fatigue problems ensuing from the large operating field rate over a large lifetime cycle number, 10(7). Numerical results are presented and discussed
