    Abstract: Society lives its lives in a way that allows them to adapt to changing circumstances. The emergence of the new coronavirus, also known as Covid-19, has impacted nearly every area of people's lives by early 2020. Current and potential customers to provide a more dynamic experience and increase loyalty. The article is discussing how companies are using social media for marketing as their lifeline in surviving their business. To be more specific, the hospitality industry would be the main highlight as companies and businesses in the hospitality industry shifted and adjusted more during the pandemic. This inquiry aims to show the effectivity of media publicizing as a promoting instrument in buyer conduct for organizations in the cordiality business utilizing the EBK Model. In investigating this phenomenon in terms of the effectiveness of social media advertising in purchasing decisions during the Covid19 pandemic, researchers try to answer the following questions; demographic profile, effectiveness of advertisements on during the covid-19 pandemic through the EBK Model in the hospitality industry, is there a significant discrepancy between the respondents' demographic profile and the assessment of the effectiveness of social media ads related to the EBK model and what possible Marketing strategies on customer buying decisions can be proposed.     Testing for a deficit in single-case studies: effect of departures from normality

    In neuropsychological single-case research inferences concerning a patient’s cognitive status are often based on referring the patient’s test score to those obtained from a modestly sized control sample. Two methods of testing for a deficit (z and a method proposed by Crawford & Howell, 1998) both assume the control distribution is normal but this assumption will often be violated in practice. Monte Carlo simulation was employed to study the effects of leptokurtosis and the combination of skew and leptokurtosis on the Type I error rates for these two methods. For Crawford and Howell’s method, leptokurtosis produced only a modest inflation of the Type I error rate when the control sample N was small-to-modest in size and error rates were lower than the specified rates at larger N. In contrast, the combination of leptokurtosis and skew produced marked inflation of error rates for small Ns. With a specified error rate of 5%, actual error rates as high as 14.31% and 9.96% were observed for z and Crawford and Howell’s method respectively.     A statistical analysis of circumstellar material in Type Ia supernovae

    A key tracer of the elusive progenitor systems of Type Ia supernovae (SNe Ia) is the detection of narrow blueshifted time-varying Na I D absorption lines, interpreted as evidence of circumstellar material surrounding the progenitor system. The origin of this material is controversial, but the simplest explanation is that it results from previous mass-loss in a system containing a white dwarf and a non-degenerate companion star. We present new single-epoch intermediate-resolution spectra of 17 low-redshift SNe Ia taken with XShooter on the European Southern Observatory Very Large Telescope. Combining this sample with events from the literature, we confirm an excess (∼20 per cent) of SNe Ia displaying blueshifted narrow Na I D absorption features compared to redshifted Na I D features. The host galaxies of SNe Ia displaying blueshifted absorption profiles are skewed towards later-type galaxies, compared to SNe Ia that show no Na I D absorption and SNe Ia displaying blueshifted narrow Na I D absorption features have broader light curves. The strength of the Na I D absorption is stronger in SNe Ia displaying blueshifted Na I D absorption features than those without blueshifted features, and the strength of the blueshifted Na I D is correlated with the B − V colour of the SN at maximum light. This strongly suggests the absorbing material is local to the SN. In the context of the progenitor systems of SNe Ia, we discuss the significance of these findings and other recent observational evidence on the nature of SN Ia progenitors. We present a summary that suggests that there are at least two distinct populations of normal, cosmologically useful SNe Ia

    Firm R&D, innovation and easing financial constraints in China: Does corporate tax reform matter?

    This paper studies the relationship between firms' innovation activities, financial constraints and corporate tax reform in China. A firm-level proxy for financial constraints is derived using cash-flow analysis and subsequently linked to various innovation activities of the firm. As an identification strategy, difference in-differences with exact matching is employed to study whether a reduction in the corporate tax burden via China's 2004 value-added tax (VAT) reform influences firms' innovation activities given they face increasing financial constraints. The results reveal that low access to liquidity in the private sector has a persistent negative effect on firms' innovation activities and reduces the innovation success for more R&D intensive firms. Given increasing financial constraints, a reduction in private-sector firms' corporate tax burden spurs new product and process sales despite failing to affect either their decision to pursue R&D or the amount to invest. The findings suggest that easing financial constraints alone cannot correct the market failure caused by underinvestment in China's private sector. (C) 2016 Elsevier B.V. Howell-Jolly bodies are a well-known entity found in red blood cells. They are nuclear fragments, composed of deoxyribonucleic acid, commonly observed in the peripheral blood smears of hyposplenic or asplenic patients. Recently, similar inclusions often referred to as Howell-Jolly body-like inclusions (HJBLIs) have been reported in the neutrophils of patients with acquired immune deficiency syndrome (AIDS) and COVID-19 patient.Aim: To explore whether HJBLIs in peripheral blood smear could differentiate between patients with confirmed SARS-CoV-2 and bacterial pneumonia.Methods: We performed cross-sectional study using secondary data from COVID-19 database and re-evaluated peripheral blood smears to identify HJBLIs. We included confirmed COVID-19 adults age > 18 years who were hospitalized in Dr. Hasan Sadikin General Hospital, Bandung, Indonesia from March 1st 2020–May 31st 2020. We also examined peripheral blood smears in patients with confirmed bacterial pneumonia as a control group. Clinical characteristics including disease severity, CURB-65 score, comorbidity, and the present of HJBLIs in peripheral blood smears were evaluated.Results: Overall, 33 patients were included: 22 were confirmed COVID-19 and 11 were confirmed bacterial pneumonia. The median (interquartile range) age in COVID-19 and patients with bacterial pneumonia were 53 years (40– 64) vs 57 years (53– 71), respectively. Compared with patients with bacterial pneumonia, HJBLIs were significantly higher in COVID-19 patients [21/22 (80.8%) vs 5/11 (45.5%), p 0.001].Conclusion: Howell-Jolly body-like inclusions could be a potential feature to help differentiate between COVID-19 and bacterial pneumonia.Keywords: Howell-Jolly body-like inclusions, COVID-19, bacterial pneumonia, peripheral blood smea

    Howell‐Jolly body counting as a measure of splenic function. A reassessment

    Summary Non‐surgical and surgical asplenia predisposes to fatal infections; therefore, simple, non‐invasive and repeatable tests for assessing splenic function are required, even in non‐specialized medical institutions. Howell‐Jolly bodies are the most characteristic peripheral blood abnormality after splenectomy, but their counting is not considered a reliable measure of splenic function. In this study, in a group of splenectomized subjects and of patients with non‐surgical hyposplenism, we have compared counting of Howell‐Jolly bodies, stained by both the May‐Grünwald/Giemsa method and the Feulgen reaction, with pitted cell counting which is considered a reliable technique for the assessment of splenic hypofunction. A significant correlation has been found between Howell‐Jolly body counts, stained by either technique, and pitted cell counts (P < 0.0001). Though Howell‐Jolly bodies were never detectable when pitted cell counts fell between 4 and 8%, values consistent with a very mild splenic hypofunction, for pitted cell counts above 8% their increase was always associated with increasing Howell‐Jolly body counts. These data suggest that, although pitted cell counting represents a more sensitive method for evaluating splenic function, Howell‐Jolly body counting may still be regarded as a simple and reliable technique for identifying and monitoring those cases associated with a real risk of overwhelming infections.     Investigation into the design and optimisation of multideck refrigerated display cases

    This thesis was submitted for the degree of Doctor of Philosophy and awarded by Brunel University.The refrigeration energy load in a modern day supermarket makes up a large proportion of the total energy bill. Better design of refrigerated display cases would reduce this load and also have a corresponding effect on the running costs of the refrigeration plant. Further enhancements such as the reduction of air overspill from the case would also influence the aisle temperatures and therefore the comfort levels in the store. This research project uses the technique of computational fluid dynamics (CFD) to investigate the contemporary design of a vertical multideck refrigerated display case. From a two dimensional computational model conclusions were drawn as to the principles of operation of the case. During the course of the project, a custom designed experimental facility was constructed, capable of testing the display case according to the relevant test standards. Using this facility, experimental validation was carried on a number of the design modifications to assess the actual refrigeration load against that predicted by the CFD model. The success of this validation allowed further work into the feasibility of certain design changes by making modifications to the CFD model. The work presented in this thesis makes a contribution to the global effort towards the reduction of the energy consumption by retail refrigeration systems. It does this by showing that possibilities do exist for an improvement in the energy efficiency of multideck refrigerated display cases and that CFD provides a useful tool towards this goal. It also demonstrates the design modifications which proved to yield a saving in energy. These were a reduction in the mass flow rate of air around the case, the inclusion of a honeycomb section on the air curtain outlet of the case the addition of a front upstand and the introduction of a second air curtain thus applying a velocity gradient across the curtain.This work was supported by the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council and Safeway Stores Plc
