The article aims to deepen the knowledge of wooden trusses and their evolution over time, through the reworking and interpretation of data obtained from a laser scanner survey. From the point cloud of the entire roofing, 3D models of the single trusses are obtained through reverse engineering and parametric modelling software. Each model is obtained by fixing solid constructive and evolutionary hypotheses to which these structures must respond and represents a regression in time of the truss from the "current" to the "original" condition. The "ideal or theoretical" model represents, therefore, a reasonable undistorted configuration at the time of construction. Then, by comparing the models with the point cloud, it is possible to analyze these trusses in detail, highlight their movements and deformations, derive precise and comparative information on their behavior and draw global considerations on the state of health of the entire roofing
SAFETY AND QUALITY MANAGEMENT IN CONSTRUCTION SITES THROUGH VALIDATION: “PROGETTO RADDOPPIO” - A CASE STUDY BY POLITECNICO DI TORINO.
Predictions of the crystal structure and solid-phase transition of N-methylacetamide, based on packing-energy calculations
The crystal structure of AcNHMe (I) was calcd. by energy-potential functions, based on van der Waals force and H bond energy packing, in good agreement with exptl. x-ray data. The solid-phase transition obsd. at ∼10° to give orthorhombic I with a 9.61, b 6.59, c 7.30 Å, and space group Pnma, was discussed in terms of a 2nd energy min. in the packing energy plots
Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed
Variations on the Author
“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship
Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis
We provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature. Finally, we show by means of an example that our findings have a high practical relevance.information science;Pearson correlation;cosine;similarity measure;author cocitation analysis
Architetture costruite di Enrico Castiglioni nella Scuola Italiana di Ingegneria
During the 1950s, "made in Italy" structures established all over the world. Italian architects presented authorial interpretations of the “structuralist” mood, transforming structural topics in the alphabet of a new architectural language, deeply intertwined with the artisanal dimension of the cast in situ reinforced concrete construction site. The architect-engineer Enrico Castiglioni was deeply involved in this collective adventure. His works (disclosed by the international attention due to visionary un-built projects), represent, in the Italian School of Engineering, a unique local story to be discolosed and disseminated. This contribution presents first results of ongoing surveys on the most significant built structures of Varese district. The study is conducted within the research project "SIXXI – Twentieth Century Structural Engineering: the Italian Contribution" (ERC Advanced Grant, PI Sergio Poretti, Tullia Iori)
Managing safety and quality on construction sites Trough Validation
This document relates to the validation procedure for the Politecnico di Torino “Progetto Raddoppio”.
In Italy, following the introduction of European regulations and current national legislation,
validation management of the “construction process” is acquiring strategic value and aims to reduce
problems encountered at works completion stage. In most cases at present, validation is via formal
documentation control by the purchaser, whereas in other cases such as this, validation is performed
by an external authority and involves systematic project and contractual document monitoring.
The final validation management report should cover the entire procedure, from preliminary to
executive project design.
In the case study, the validation procedure was applied only in the executive design stage, and
therefore the problems encountered as indicated under “observations” mainly relate to typical aspects
concerning this project stage, e.g. technological difficulties and those relating to works management
and construction site organisation (work safety management and environmental impact management).
This document aims to clarify observations recorded in the validation procedure, explaining how these
influenced the technological choices and works management aspects in the executive stage, including
safety management, regarding both operators and environmental impact
