The access of Nigerian immigrants to the services of the Portuguese State (health, education, and social protection services)
This study explores the experiences and perceptions of Nigerian immigrants in Portugal, focusing on their interactions with the educational system, healthcare services, and social support systems. The study employs mixed methods of quantitative and qualitative data collection. A focus on a select sample of Nigerian immigrants residing in Portugal was evaluated regarding their interactions, experiences, and subjective perceptions of education, healthcare, and social services. Preliminary findings revealed that Portugal is viewed as a veritable destination for Higher education among immigrants. The educational system was generally perceived positively, reflecting Portugal's appeal as an academic hub for international students seeking academic and personal growth opportunities. Overall, respondents rated healthcare services positively, particularly in specialized fields such as Dentistry, Orthopedics, and Cardiology. In terms of social services, Nigerian immigrants expressed high satisfaction with "Social Assistance" and "Social Security" services, indicating that the social support systems in place are generally effective in meeting their needs. However, some respondents highlighted limited accessibility due to language barriers, suggesting the importance of providing language support and interpretation services to enhance the utilization of social services. The study provides insights into the experiences of Nigerian immigrants in Portugal and underscores the country's efforts in providing inclusive and accessible opportunities for immigrant communities. The positive ratings of the healthcare services suggest that the Portuguese state healthcare system is generally well-regarded by the immigrant population. Moreover, the fact that many respondents reported using general practice and gynecology services aligns with the common need for primary healthcare and specialized care related to women's health. However, there is still room for improvement, as a few respondents mentioned language barriers affecting their access to these services, which underscores the need for interventions. The relevant authorities need to address language barriers and other potential limitations to ensure equitable access to social services for all immigrants. In conclusion, the present study findings affirm that Nigerian immigrants are significantly pleased with the accessible services in Portugal. Also, the study findings mirrored the strengths and gaps concerning Nigerian immigrant access to education, healthcare, and social services, with emphasis on its notable adequacy.
The objectives of this research were to map out some of the displacements found on
the work of the French poet Emmanuel Hocquard, based on aspects belonging to his
texts construction and also on the way the author deals with space related subjects:
travels, spacial and temporal displacements, landscapes, the space of writing.
To manage that, it was shown that the displacement is configured, basically, in two
directions: one of them being a close-to-far way and the other a far-to-close way. On
the first way there is an opposition to a frozen language and the endeavour to create
distance, be it concerning the relationship between the private and subjective spheres
or concerning the language commonplaces.
These questions were focused following some recurring concepts on the discussion
about contemporary poetry, such as literality and the double lyricism-antilyricism, as
well as the author s precious theoretical appointments. Moreover, his use of the lyric
labels , or in another words, of ocidental lyric forms and practices and the thecnique
of collage, was also analyzed
On the second way, Hocquard s attempts to recollect the past, his private life and his
reminiscences are seen while he searches for writing topics that can be rethought and
updated. On this direction, there is his in loco return to Tanger, the city where the
author spent his childhood years.
Beyond that, Hocquard s workings with translation, the act of bringing the (far)
language close, and his grammar writing experiments can be found on this movement.
The aforementioned displacements contributes to the disposable and everchangin
aspects of his textes.
Given the importance of translation in the author s work, the second part of this
research is exclusively composed of translations of the quoted and studied texts.
analisados

The Christian ministry : case studies of preachers of the Churches of Christ in Bicol, Philippines
This thesis examines the challenges faced by the ministers of religion in Churches of Christ (Restoration Movement) in Bicol, Philippines. The goal is to do theology from below, not from above, as pastoral ministry must come from the experience of those who practice it, not from textbooks. The pastoral perspectives of the dilemmas that the ministers raise are heard, observed, documented, and then reflected upon. To do this, case studies of four preachers are used and the mga problema that they present are explored with them.
As a result, first, I introduce some of those challenges which are perplexing on the ground level and which appear to be under-researched in serious theological circles, especially in an Asian context. Second, I hope that these case studies can be used to stimulate reflection in ministerial and spiritual formation. Third, I document some of the theology and methodology of the Churches of Christ, particularly as practiced in the Philippines.
Chapter 1 explores the dichotomy between the perceived satisfaction in the pastoral ministry with the crisis of role and identity. In particular, issues such as forced exits and stress are presented while baptism and preaching are scrutinized. Chapter 2 centres on the conundrums experienced in planting a new church and being the lone planter. Chapter 3 examines three challenges–the task of ministering in a home congregation, the issue of accreditation in ministerial training, and how the minister can be a success and grow the church. Never far from the thoughts and actions of any of the Bicolano ministers is the problema of poverty, so Chapter 4 considers some of the Filipino, personal, and spiritual complexities of poverty, delineates a number of factors that need to be taken into consideration in any effort to overcome this malady and concludes with a particular reference to ministry
Teachers' attitudes to inclusion in Ghana
The purpose of this study was to survey the attitudes of teachers in Ghana towards children with special educational needs (SEN) and disabilities in relation to the UNESCO (1994) Salamanca Statement on inclusion. Using random sampling techniques, five. hundred and forty trained and un~rained mainstream Primary School teachers were selected from three of the ten regions of Ghana to respond to questionnaire items composed of educational placement options and bi-polar emotional reactions. Sixteen. of the participants were interviewed using a semi-structured interview guide consisfing of scenarios on the assessment results ofchildren with SEN and disabilities. The results, including chi-square analysis, showed that teachers in Ghana were generally positive towards the inclusion of children with SEN and disabilities. Their greatest 'concern, however, was with children with sensory disabilities (that is the deaf and blind) and severe to profound intellectual difficulties. In some of the SEN categories, statistically significant diffe~ences were found between teachers in terms of gender, level of teaching experience, knowledge ofhow to teach children with SEN and disabilities and the location of school in terms region or level of urbanisation. However, no differences were found between teachers in attitudes to inclusion in terms of age, qualification or length of teaching experience. Further, the results showed that irrespective of a teacher's gender, level of experience and/or knowleage of SEN and disabilities, teachers generally experienced anxiety, dissatisfaction and worry in teaching children with SEN and disabilities. On the basis of the fmdings, conclusions were drawn that global agendas are subject to national and local interpretation. It therefore sounds logical' for research and . policies to be context specific. This way, attitudes could be better understood and policies and regulations on SEN fashioned to meet local situations and standards
Writing the land : representations of 'the land' and nationalism in Anglophone literature from South Africa and Zimbabwe 1969-2002
As a material possessIOn and as an imagined space of belonging. land was the
principle draw for European settlers in southern Africa from the 17th century onwards.
The legacy of racial dispossession and conflict that ensued still resonates in the 21 st
century, as post-colonial nation-states face up to the daunting task of redistributing
land between newly enfranchised peasants, commercial farmers and displaced
communities. Representations of 'the land' in literature signal not only geographical
entities but also a variety of social and cultural landscapes. In literature written in
English from southern Africa the semantic terrain of 'the land' is thus constituted by a
diverse range of experiences, encounters and ideologies, testifying to the manifold
contradictions that settler colonialism produced.
The primary concern of this thesis is to examine how writers from Zimbabwe
and South Africa have engaged with these experiences and articulated them as
historical 'structures of feeling' (Williams 1978) in their work. In particular, it
explores the relationship between representations of 'the land' and the articulation of
nationhood and nationalism in selected novels. It argues that certain structures of
feeling rival official nationalist discourses in varied and subversive ways. As a
comparative project, it focuses on literature produced at important historical moments
both before and after the transition to majority rule in South Africa (1994) and
Zimbabwe (1980). A transition between two major structures of feeling is identified
within this comparative horizon. This thesis explores how representations of 'the
land' both propagate and question an ideology of (revolutionary) repossession in the
1970s, but also of (reconciliatory) reform in the 1990s
studies in the doctrine and worship of the Church of England (1976-2000)
The aim of this MA Thesis is to provide a research in the Church of England doctrine and worship from the 1970s till almost the present day. In order to meet its aims, the research is largely based on the analysis of the Reports of the Doctrine Commission of the Church of England, from "Christian Believing" (1976) till "The Mystery of Salvation" (1995). Analysis of the background of the Reports is also provided, as well as a general evaluation of the role these Reports play in the life of the Church of England. The main intention of this thesis is to follow two major themes, expressed in a variety of ways: the topic of Trinitarian theology and the issue of corporate consciousness in the Church of England. Trinitarian theology is mostly dealt with in Chapter 3, which analyses the texts engaging with doctrinal questions in an explicit way and aims at demonstrating that the Church of England holds firmly to a Trinitarian theology as the doctrinal basis for its descriptive theology, spirituality and praxis. The issue of corporate consciousness and analysis of worship and liturgy are tackled in Chapter 4.Historically the identity of the Church of England was defined by the claim that its doctrine is to be found in the liturgy. Nowadays when the Anglican worship does not follow a single uniform pattern, such an approach cannot be regarded as viable. The thesis aims at answering this issue by the holistic approach to the studies of the doctrine and worship in the Church of England, when both strands are considered together. Although done from an 'outsider' point of view, the research claims to be comprehensive in its scope and provides a number of reflections and practical recommendations as the Church of England enters the 21'' century
Stakeholder-driven transformative adaptation is needed for climate-smart nutrition security in sub-Saharan Africa.
Improving nutrition security in sub-Saharan Africa under increasing climate risks and population growth requires a strong and contextualized evidence base. Yet, to date, few studies have assessed climate-smart agriculture and nutrition security simultaneously. Here we use an integrated assessment framework (iFEED) to explore stakeholder-driven scenarios of food system transformation towards climate-smart nutrition security in Malawi, South Africa, Tanzania and Zambia. iFEED translates climate-food-emissions modelling into policy-relevant information using model output implication statements. Results show that diversifying agricultural production towards more micronutrient-rich foods is necessary to achieve an adequate population-level nutrient supply by mid-century. Agricultural areas must expand unless unprecedented rapid yield improvements are achieved. While these transformations are challenging to accomplish and often associated with increased greenhouse gas emissions, the alternative for a nutrition-secure future is to rely increasingly on imports, which would outsource emissions and be economically and politically challenging given the large import increases required. Steering Taste: Ernest Marsh, a study of private collecting in England in the early 20th Century
The primary aim of this thesis is to focus attention on the bourgeois, 'un-named' collector. The driving force behind most museum and art gallery collections of the Victorian and Edwardian period. British museum and art gallery records of gifted collections, bequests and loans usually note their donors. However, with a few notable exceptions, little is known about the collectors, their activities and motivation in making such presentations.
Using the interests and activities of the Quaker miller and collector Ernest Marsh (1843-1945) as a case study, this thesis explores how in the period 1890-1945 a collector came to be a key agent in the construction and manifestation of taste in British Applied Arts and to a lesser degree in the Fine Arts. Through primary visual and documentary evidence of the Marsh home, and reference to contemporary and later commentaries it considers the relative influences of husband and wife on decorating and furnishing the domestic interior, the evolution of taste, and, for Ernest Marsh, its impact upon his artistic interests within the public arena.
By examination of private papers, metropolitan and provincial art gallery and museum archives it also considers evidence of the inter-relationships between donors and curators, and the mutual advantages and disadvantages accruing to both, particularly focussing on the processes in bringing about changes in individual and institutional collecting policy. Further, by review of records of, in particular, the Contemporary Art Society and the Greenslade archive, it examines the degree to which private benefactors and those in public or semi-public office, acting as fund-raisers and spenders exercise influence through patronage of particular practitioners, choice of works and initiating new designs
