Environmental indicators as contextual information for territorial actors.

    No full text
In the last few decades, a great variety of indicators of sustainable development have been elaborated to feed models or assess strategies in form of macro-indexes or systems of indicators. But, Are the measures found in literature good references to be applied to lower territorial levels? This paper presents the results of CAENTI work in terms of the environmental dimension of sustainable development, since there are many other teams working in the social, institutional and economic dimensions. Therefore, it is just one of the pieces of the puzzle, which needs to be connected to other pieces

Identification of Room Boundaries for Sound Field Estimation

    No full text
Echoes generated by the sound reflected off the walls of a room carry information about the geometry of the enclosure. Capitalization of this acoustic property could lead to improvements in current state-of-the-art methods for sound field estimation, where prior information can be used to improve the conditioning of the problem. In this thesis, robust and computational efficient methods are developed for identifying first order reflections to estimate the room geometry using small microphone arrays. Furthermore, as the estimation of such reflections becomes even more challenging in actual audio reproduction systems, this work aims to develop methods capable to deal with complications that might arise due to the employed drivers. This is done by considering the estimation problem in two different scenarios. Firstly, the first order reflections estimation problem is posed as a sorting problem. For this case, a set of echoes, received at different microphones, must be grouped accordingly to the wall which originated them. This problem is solved by using a greedy subspace-based algorithm. The proposed approach provides similar performance compared with the state-of-the-art method at a reduced computational cost. For the second scenario, instead of echoes, only raw microphones measurements are available. This instance of the problem is posed under an estimation theory framework, and solved by sequential minimization of a non-linear cost function based on the propagation of waves. Experimental results, evaluated in simulated shoe-box shaped rooms, demonstrate the performance and applicability of the proposed methods for room geometry estimation.Electrical Engineering, Mathematics and Computer ScienceCircuits and System

What drives European organizations to invest in Generative AI, and what challenges do they face in 2023-2024?

    No full text
Background: Generative Artificial Intelligence (GenAI) has emerged as a transformative technology capable of generating content ranging from text and images to music and code. Its rapid adoption by European organizations is driven by the potential to strengthen competitive advantage, increase market share, and foster innovation. However, the adoption process is accompanied by significant challenges, including ethical issues, data privacy concerns, and the absence of clear regulations. Purpose: This thesis aims to examine the factors influencing GenAI adoption in European organizations. It explores the motivations driving investment in GenAI, identifies the challenges encountered during its implementation, and provides insights into effective strategies for overcoming these obstacles. Method: The study employs a qualitative research approach, conducting in-depth interviews with stakeholders from various European organizations. These interviews focus on understanding the motivations behind GenAI adoption, the challenges faced, and the impact of these factors on the broader business landscape. Data analysis involves thematic coding to identify recurring patterns and themes. Results and analysis: The findings indicate that European organizations are primarily motivated to adopt GenAI to enhance competitive advantage, grow market share, and foster innovation in products and processes. At the same time, the most significant challenges are ethical concerns, data privacy issues, and the absence of clear regulatory frameworks. These challenges create barriers to widespread adoption and require careful consideration. Conclusions: To achieve successful adoption of GenAI, European organizations must address both internal and external challenges. This includes implementing ethical guidelines, ensuring data privacy compliance, and advocating for clearer regulations. The study concludes that a balanced approach, combining innovation with responsibility, is key to unlocking the full potential of GenAI while mitigating risks. Recommendations for future research: To better understand the evolving motivations and challenges associated with GenAI adoption, further research could explore a broader range of organizational settings and geographic regions. This expanded focus would offer deeper insights into the dynamics of GenAI adoption across different industries and cultures. Additionally, it could reveal how motivations and challenges shift over time, providing a comprehensive view of the long-term impact of GenAI on organizational practices and societal perceptions

PACTO PRIVADO FEUDAL Y ESTRUCTURA PUBLICA EN LA ORGANIZACION DEL PODER POLITICO EN LA ALTA EDAD MEDIA

The author upholds the idea of the feudalisation of the kingdom of León being before its time, particularly if we compare it with the feudalisation of the county of Barcelona. But this feudal reality does not prevent us from recognising at the same time the continuation and development of another reality: the concept of royal power which the Visigothic legislation had inherited from Rome. This concept survived in a latent state through the 10th century and began to be revived at the beginning of the 11th century with the decreta of 1017 issued by Alfonso V.El autor sostiene la precocidad de la feudalización del reino de León, sobre todo si la comparamos con la del condado de Barcelona.

Sustainability of Territorial Projects. A Proposal.

    No full text
International audienceThis paper review efforts devoted to sustainability over the last years from different points of view. First of all, a conceptualisation and modelling of the concept is presented from a "macro" perspective. Next, some ideas of how sustainability could be implemented in a territory are given. This could be considered the "meso" vision. Finally, the "micro" perspective from the project level is tackled. In this sense, we propose a check list to select projects contributing to sustainability. This proposal is only one aspect for the beginning of a long way
