The consequences of a massive bombardment like that Tivoli suffered during the Second World War, inevitably become the object of archaeological studies aimed to approach the analysis, or even a simple observation, of the town monuments. 74 years after the 2nd World War, the destruction and then the reconstructions and restorations have stratified on buildings as well as on urban and social fabric, becoming "archaeological data". This is the goal of the article: an overview of the evidence of bombing on Tivoli in 1944 through the analysis of some of its monuments. These evidence, being archaeological data, can be observed with that objective distance that only a stratigraphic reading can provide, aiming also to contribute to refresh the memory of events as close and painful, as already far away, that we risk to forget.Universidad Pablo de Olavid

Considerations on markings and traces of building site in the Library of Hadrian at Athens

    No full text
In the Library of Hadrian at Athens are preserved a series of marble artifacts that, in addition to their purely architectural retain traces linked to their realization and subsequent use. Some are still in situ in the Roman building and they can be contextualized within a precise constructive chronology. For others, re-employed in the later stages of the Hadrian monument, when the complex becomes a Byzantine basilica, to track a context and a constructive meaning is more difficult. All cases that will be presented, however, return an image of some aspects of the working activity in ancient workshops: the know-how transfer for realization of marble architectural elements. Traces of the production process, large and small, show the way the craftsman visualized the finished product.Universidad Pablo de Olavid

Concrete vaulted are the experimental objects best known to the public: new shapes arecreated, slender proportions absent in the previous architecture, and minimal wall thicknessesto support complex inertial systems.Innovative technical solutions are sought, or techniques already known but used in the past only in specific cases are used, all with the aim of materializing particular visual images and to obtain the static balance that would allow their existence.Universidad Pablo de Olavid
